For a compact touchscreen beside a Windows PC, start with a small HDMI panel that handles touch separately over USB. The manufacturer-listed Waveshare 7-inch HDMI LCD (H) is the clearest fit in that category. Raspberry Pi’s Touch Display 2 is a better compact dashboard choice when the host is a compatible Raspberry Pi: it connects through DSI, not standard PC HDMI. If you want a portable second screen rather than a tiny telemetry panel, ASUS’s 15.6-inch ZenScreen Touch MB16AMTR is the larger alternative.
Which type of touchscreen works for a PC monitoring display?
Check the display connection and the touch connection as separate requirements. A small panel may take video from HDMI and send touch data over USB; HDMI alone does not establish that touch will work. Raspberry Pi lists Touch Display 2 in 5-, 7-, and 10-inch sizes. The 5- and 7-inch variants are specified at 720×1280 in portrait orientation and use five-finger capacitive touch. The 10-inch variant is listed at 1200×1920. The 5- and 7-inch models use a DSI connection for display data and GPIO for power, so they are not plug-in HDMI displays for a regular PC.

- Host and video input: Match HDMI, USB-C, or DSI to the host. DSI is the Pi-oriented connection on the smaller Touch Display 2 models, not standard PC HDMI.
- Touch data: Find out how touch reaches the host. A separate USB touch connection is common on HDMI panels; confirm it rather than inferring it from the video connector.
