For smoother performance in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon on PC, start with Low settings if your system is near the minimum requirements; otherwise begin with a middle preset. Keep your monitor’s native resolution as the baseline, then try FSR, reduce Grass Density if the GPU is struggling, and lower draw distance if the system is lower-end or CPU-bound. Change one option at a time and compare in the same area: official sources publish target specifications, but no setting-by-setting PC frame-rate gains.
What settings should you try first?
Patch 1.30, announced by developer Questline / Awaken Realms on October 1, 2026, added FSR to the upscaling options and made Grass Density a separate setting from Vegetation Quality. The developers said the patch improves performance and stability across platforms, but published no quantified PC frame-rate gains. See the official Patch 1.30 announcement.
- Choose a starting preset. Use Low if your hardware is close to Steam’s minimum tier. If it is above that tier, start with a middle preset rather than assuming Ultra is best for your system.
- Keep native resolution as your baseline. If frame rate is inadequate, try FSR in the game’s upscaling options. Patch 1.30 confirms FSR support but does not identify a best mode.
- Adjust Grass Density if the GPU is struggling. Test a lower density first, especially at high resolutions. If needed, reduce Vegetation Quality separately so you can see which change helps.
- Reduce draw distance if the system is lower-end or CPU-bound. Avoid starting at the maximum; lower it gradually if performance is uneven.
- Compare after each change. Use the same demanding area and adjust only one option between comparisons. This is a practical way to isolate changes, not a tested configuration or guarantee of improvement.
For other visual options, choose the look you prefer unless you have a reason to test them. The official information does not rank every setting by performance cost, so avoid assuming that a particular option will deliver a specific FPS increase.

Should you lower Grass Density or draw distance?
Grass Density and Vegetation Quality
The developer says Grass Density values were optimized for GPU-bound setups, high resolutions, and low-end GPUs. That makes density a sensible setting to test in those situations, but the announcement does not quantify its effect. Because Vegetation Quality is now separate, adjust it independently rather than treating the two controls as one.

Draw distance
On PC, the draw-distance slider now goes up to 120%; Ultra+ uses 120% by default. The developers warn that higher draw distance may affect lower-end or CPU-bound systems. If you have one of those systems or see inconsistent performance, try stepping below the maximum. The patch does not establish a universal ideal value. Details are in the official patch announcement.
Does the game support FSR?
Yes. Patch 1.30 added FSR to the game’s upscaling options. Try it if you need more frame rate while keeping your chosen output resolution, then compare the image and performance in the same area. The announcement confirms the feature but does not specify a recommended FSR mode or promise a particular gain.

How do Steam’s PC requirements compare?
Steam’s listing, accessed October 3, 2026, gives target specifications rather than a guarantee of locked frame rates in every scene. Its minimum tier is described for Low settings at 30 FPS and Full HD; its recommended tier is described for Ultra settings at 60 FPS and Full HD. The listing specifies DirectX 11 for both. See Steam’s system requirements.

Steam’s SSD recommendation concerns storage; it does not establish that an SSD will fix low frame rates or stutter. The published targets also do not assure a locked 30 or 60 FPS in every location.

Are Steam Deck performance targets relevant to PC?
Patch 1.30 adds two presets specifically for Steam Deck: Quality targets 30 FPS, while Performance targets 35–40 FPS. These figures describe the Deck presets, not desktop PC results, so they should not be used as a desktop performance benchmark. The targets are stated in the October 1, 2026 patch announcement.
