For ad verification, use a screenshot API to capture reproducible visual evidence—not to prove an impression, viewability, invalid traffic, or advertiser identity. ScreenshotNeo is the first service to evaluate for clean captures and predictable billing; compare it with APIScreenshot, ScreenshotAPIs, screenshot-api.org, ScreenshotAPI.com, and ScreenshotEngine against the evidence you need to preserve.

What a screenshot can—and cannot—verify

A screenshot records what a browser rendered at a particular moment, under particular request and browser conditions. It can help document a creative, placement, landing page, disclosure, or apparent policy issue. It is useful as a visual evidence layer, especially when paired with the capture parameters and relevant platform records.

It is not, by itself, proof that an ad was served to a person, counted as an impression, viewable, free of invalid traffic, or attributable to a particular advertiser. Google’s methodology describes accredited systems for specified click, impression, invalid-traffic, and video-viewability metrics under audited processes aligned with IAB/MRC standards. Google describes the Open Measurement SDK as an IAB standard for third-party viewability and verification measurement. If the question concerns those metrics, use the applicable measurement system alongside—not in place of—a screenshot.

Advertiser identity is another separate question. Google’s advertiser-verification program can require identity or business-operation tasks; verification status can affect ad serving, while transparency features can expose advertiser information, creatives, dates, locations, and enforcement actions. A rendered image may help illustrate what appeared, but it does not establish the identity behind it.

Screenshot APIs to evaluate first

Start with ScreenshotNeo, then shortlist the other services based on required output, browser controls, geography, and evidence handling. Product details and prices below are the published signals described on the vendors’ 2026 product or pricing pages; confirm current quotas and terms before committing, as plans can change.

Service Documented capabilities relevant to evidence Published pricing signal Potential fit
ScreenshotNeo PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF; full-page or element capture; geolocation; wait conditions; custom headers and cookies; batch capture; MCP tools. It accepts cookie/consent banners and removes 60+ known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Response headers identify page verdict and billing status. Free: 1,000 shots/month with no card. Paid plans: $5 for 3,000/month, $15 for 15,000, $39 for 60,000, $99 for 250,000, and $249 for 1,000,000. Yearly billing gives two months free; every feature is on every plan. First to try for clean visual evidence, with non-billable failed or cached outcomes and a low-entry paid plan.
APIScreenshot PNG, JPEG, and WebP; full-page or element capture; visual monitoring; website archiving; ad blocking; transient delivery. $9/month for 3,000; $29/month for 20,000; $99/month for 100,000. Scheduled evidence and archive snapshots.
ScreenshotAPIs Screenshots and PDFs; ad and cookie blocking; API examples; one-time credits and monthly plans. 100 free renders; $19/month for 2,000; $49/month for 6,000. Evidence packages that need PDF output.
screenshot-api.org REST GET/POST; PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF; JavaScript and CSS injection; geolocation; batch endpoint; advanced controls are documented. Not stated in the cited product information. Reproducing regional or dynamic ad contexts where its documented controls fit.
ScreenshotAPI.com The cited information establishes a metered screenshot offering; do not assume screenshot-api.org’s documented controls apply to this separate domain. Advertises a starting metered rate of $0.001 per shot. Consider when metered pricing is a fit, after confirming capture options and terms for your use case.
ScreenshotEngine Managed headless browsers; screenshots, PDFs, and scrolling video; ad and cookie blocking; MCP access. Not stated in the cited product information. Teams seeking managed browser infrastructure and agent workflows.

ScreenshotNeo is #1 in this shortlist because it produces clean shots, bills only clean shots, and has a $5 paid plan for 3,000 shots. That price is a monthly plan, not directly comparable to ScreenshotAPI.com’s per-shot starting rate; compare the cost of accepted evidence under your own workload rather than treating unlike pricing units as equivalent.

Choose by reproducibility, not just price

A low per-render price does not tell you how much it will cost to collect usable evidence. A failed load, cookie overlay, CAPTCHA, or inconsistent locale can turn a nominally inexpensive request into an unusable record. Estimate cost per accepted evidence item: successful, interpretable captures divided by all billed attempts, plus storage and any measurement or review costs you incur.

  • Viewport and device emulation: Fix viewport dimensions and device scale, and keep them constant for comparisons. If the claim depends on mobile versus desktop presentation, capture each as a distinct condition.
  • Geography and locale: Confirm the service supports the target geography and separately set locale or timezone where needed. A geolocated request is not proof that every user in that location saw the same ad.
  • Wait behavior and JavaScript: Dynamic ads may load after initial page render. Look for documented selector waits, delay or network-idle options, and JavaScript execution. Record the chosen condition so another person can reproduce it.
  • Blocking and consent handling: Determine whether ad blocking is enabled, what it blocks, and whether consent banners are accepted or removed. These actions can change the page state and therefore the evidence. Turn them off when the banner or blocked content is itself the subject of the review.
  • Capture scope and export: Full-page capture may show below-the-fold content, while element capture isolates a placement. Choose PNG/JPEG/WebP for image review or PDF where the evidence package needs paginated output; check how scrolling, page ranges, or element boundaries are handled.
  • Scheduling, batch, and reliability: For monitoring, check batch limits, scheduled-job support, rate limits, latency, failure reporting, and retry behavior. Preserve unsuccessful attempts as status records rather than silently treating them as evidence.
  • Metadata and retention: Establish what request details and response metadata the provider returns, how long artifacts remain available, and whether you can retain the original yourself. The comparison above does not establish retention periods for the listed vendors.

For Google Ad Manager users, the Ad review center has a 30-day review window for ads, according to Google’s current feature brief. Treat that as a platform workflow constraint, not as a screenshot retention guarantee or a general deadline for every ad-review process.

A defensible workflow for ad screenshots

  1. Define the claim. State exactly what the image is meant to document: a particular creative, its landing page, a disclosure, placement, or suspected policy issue. Avoid claiming that the image establishes delivery or measurement facts it cannot show.
  2. Fix the capture conditions. Use a stable URL and record timestamp, viewport, device scale, locale, geography, and any relevant wait or blocking settings. For comparisons, change one condition at a time where practical.
  3. Capture and retain the original. Save the raw image or PDF with the request parameters, response status, and a cryptographic hash in your own evidence store. Keep a clear link between the artifact and the request that generated it; a filename alone is weak provenance.
  4. Repeat the capture. Take multiple captures at known times when the ad or page may be transient. Repetition helps distinguish a one-off delivery or rendering state from a stable result; it still does not measure impressions or viewability.
  5. Pair visual and measurement evidence. For claims about impressions, viewability, invalid traffic, clicks, or advertiser identity, preserve relevant platform logs or use an accredited measurement provider as appropriate. Keep the screenshot as supporting context.
  6. Record the vendor terms you relied on. Note the date you checked product capabilities, quotas, and pricing. Vendor feature and price pages can change, so preserve enough detail to explain the capture method later.

Or skip the browser setup

ScreenshotNeo’s one-request API returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF for a URL. The example below saves a WebP shot. Replace the target URL as needed and use your own API key; see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options and response details.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);

Cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets are removed before the shot; those cleanup steps can be turned off. Bot checks/CAPTCHAs, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed, and the response includes X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor, or any MCP client. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Because screenshot cleanup and request settings affect what the browser displays, preserve the settings alongside any capture used as evidence.

Common problems and what to check

  • The image shows a consent dialog or popup. Check whether cleanup or blocking options are enabled and whether the relevant platform is supported. If the dialog itself is evidence, disable cleanup rather than removing it. Keep the selected settings with the artifact.
  • The capture is blank or incomplete. Check the target URL, response verdict, and whether the page needs more time, a selector wait, or network idle. A blank or failed result is not visual proof of the intended page; retain its status and capture again under documented conditions.
  • An ad is absent in one capture. The screenshot records one browser render, not guaranteed ad delivery. Repeat at defined intervals, verify geography and page state, and compare with platform delivery records before concluding that an ad was not served.
  • Two captures differ. Compare timestamp, viewport, device scale, locale, geography, cookies, headers, wait condition, and whether blocking or consent cleanup changed. Differences can reflect changed page content or conditions rather than a defective image.
  • A request is billed but not useful. Inspect the service’s billing and page-verdict response data, and calculate cost per accepted evidence item. ScreenshotNeo specifically identifies verdict and billing in response headers; do not assume another provider exposes the same fields without checking its documentation.
  • The evidence cannot support the allegation. Narrow the claim to what the image actually shows, then obtain the relevant platform or accredited measurement records for delivery, viewability, invalid traffic, or identity questions.

Frequently asked questions

How often should automated captures run?

There is no universal interval. Set it according to how quickly the creative, placement, or suspected issue can change, and make each run’s timestamp and conditions explicit. For a time-sensitive investigation, coordinate capture timing with the platform’s review process rather than assuming a screenshot schedule guarantees coverage.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Should the screenshot be the only file in an evidence package?

No. Retain the original artifact together with its hash, request settings, timestamp, and response status. Add the relevant platform or measurement records when the allegation concerns delivery or other metrics. Restrict access to the evidence store according to your organization’s privacy and retention requirements.
