If Astonishia Story’s classic fantasy, recruitable allies, and grid-based turn-based battles are what interest you, start with Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster for a fantasy turn-based adventure, Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter for character-led story and exploration, or Digimon Story Time Stranger for strategic combat with creature collecting. They share some of Astonishia Story’s appeal, but none should be assumed to match its exact battle format.
What makes a game feel like Astonishia Story?
The strongest comparison points are its classic fantasy quest, party of allies, and grid-based turn-based combat. Nintendo’s publisher-provided software description frames the story around Lloyd von Reuental recovering a stolen relic and says players will “master grid-based battles” and recruit allies. Those features are a more useful filter than the broad label “RPG.” Nintendo’s US store listing identifies the game as Nintendo Switch software, with Switch 2 compatibility marked “Supported – Game behavior is consistent with Nintendo Switch.” It is not listed as a Switch 2 Edition.
At the October 4, 2026 research timestamp, Nintendo lists February 11, 2027 as the US release date, so Astonishia Story is upcoming in that market. The recommendations below are alternatives along different similarity axes, not a tested head-to-head ranking.
RPGs like Astonishia Story to consider
Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster — fantasy and turn-based battles
This is a good starting point if you want a party-based fantasy RPG with turn-based combat. GamesRadar describes four heroes and the series’ Brave-point combat system, giving it a distinct strategic layer. The available comparison does not establish grid-based battlefields like Astonishia Story’s, so choose it for the fantasy-party and turn-based elements rather than an exact match in combat presentation. Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter — character-focused story and exploration
Choose this if a character-led adventure matters more than matching Astonishia Story’s battle layout. GamesRadar describes a combination of real-time and turn-based combat. That makes it a less direct fit for someone specifically seeking grid-based turns, but a useful alternative for readers drawn to a party story and exploration. Digimon Story Time Stranger — strategic turns and creature collecting
This is the loosest match of the three: it offers strategic turn-based battles, but its central appeal includes collecting and raising creatures rather than a classic fantasy party quest. Bandai Namco says players can collect, tame, and fight more than 450 Digimon. That figure describes the game’s creature roster, not Astonishia Story or its party size. Bandai Namco’s February 5, 2026 announcement also said the game had passed 1 million units sold after its earlier release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC; it is not a sales figure for a Switch release. Release details and content rating
Nintendo’s US listing describes Astonishia Story as a digital Nintendo Switch edition, gives February 11, 2027 as its release date, and marks Switch 2 compatibility as supported. A September 4, 2026 Crunchyroll News report on NIS America’s Western announcement also named Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PS5, and PC, and reported a Special Edition with an original soundtrack, card set, and acrylic keychain. That announcement report does not establish a final price or retail stock.
For readers checking content, the ESRB rates Astonishia Story Teen for Blood, Fantasy Violence, Language, and Use of Alcohol. Its rating summary mentions human and fantastical enemies, turn-based battles, blood-splatter effects, corpses, violent cutscenes, drinking, and profanity. Consider those listed elements when deciding whether the game is suitable for a younger player or for someone sensitive to them.
