The right replacement remote for a Yamaha receiver depends on the receiver’s exact model—not just the Yamaha name. Match that model to an OEM remote part number or to a seller’s explicit compatibility list before ordering. For example, Yamaha remote ZA113500 is listed as a factory replacement for the HTR-3065, HTR-3066, RX-V373, and RX-V375 only; it is not a general-purpose remote for Yamaha receivers.
How to find a replacement remote that fits your Yamaha receiver
- Record the complete receiver model. Check the label on the receiver or its original documentation, including any suffix or regional designation. Use that exact model in Yamaha’s support and manual library; similar model numbers do not establish compatibility.
- Look for the original remote identifier or part number. If you still have the remote, note its model identifier—often an RAV number—and any part number printed on it. Compare those details with the replacement listing.
- Confirm the replacement against a model-specific source. Prefer a listing that names your receiver model or matches the original remote part number. If neither the manual nor the listing resolves the fit, ask Yamaha support to identify the part.
- Check the functions you need. Confirm that the replacement has the buttons and controls you rely on, such as input selection, setup navigation, or zone control. Do not assume that a remote will reproduce every function of the original just because it powers the receiver or changes volume.
Yamaha’s support pages are organized by model, including separate pages for receivers such as the RX-V4A and RX-V475. The manual library can help locate model-specific documentation and remote-control information.

An OEM replacement is the more direct choice when you can confirm the exact factory part number. An aftermarket option can also be appropriate when the seller’s compatibility list names your specific receiver. In either case, review the listing’s button photos or feature details and ask the seller about any essential function that is unclear.

Before buying, check the troubleshooting section of the manual for your receiver. Yamaha’s RX-V465 manual lists weak batteries, a mismatch between the receiver and remote IDs, and incorrectly set remote codes among possible causes of remote-control problems. These checks are model-specific; the RX-V465 procedure should not be assumed to apply unchanged to another receiver.

Remote IDs and component-control codes are different settings. Some Yamaha receivers can be assigned a remote ID so that multiple receivers can be controlled separately; the RX-V467 manual explains that the remote’s ID must match the receiver’s. A remote code used to control another component is a separate configuration and does not show that a generic remote can replace all of the receiver’s own controls. Consult the manual for your exact model for any setting or code procedure.
Alternatives to a physical replacement remote
Yamaha AV Controller app
Yamaha describes its AV Controller app as a Wi-Fi remote for supported network receivers and publishes a compatible-model list and exclusions. Check that list and the receiver’s network requirements before relying on the app. It is not a physical replacement and will not help with an unsupported or non-network model.

Programmable universal remote
A programmable universal remote may work if it explicitly supports your receiver or can accept the commands it needs. Yamaha manuals include code-setting directions for certain models, but that is not evidence that one universal remote works across the full Yamaha receiver range. Verify model support and the functions you need before buying.
How to identify an unknown Yamaha remote part number
Yamaha says its parts-order website requires a Yamaha part number. If you do not know the number, Yamaha’s parts guidance directs you to contact support. Give support the receiver’s complete model designation and, if available, the original remote’s identifier; use the part number Yamaha confirms to check a replacement listing.
