There is no verified universal “best” power bank for 24/7 Raspberry Pi streaming in India. No bank has been validated here for continuous output, pass-through charging, or runtime under an actual FFmpeg workload. Choose by your exact Pi model, then verify voltage at the Pi while your intended stream is running. A bank’s advertised capacity alone cannot establish that it will keep the setup stable or tell you how long it will run.
Start with the Raspberry Pi model
Raspberry Pi Ltd’s current official setup guidance, accessed in 2026, gives these recommended supplies. Treat them as the starting point for checking a bank’s output—not as proof that any particular bank will work continuously.

The official recommendation is measured at the plug. Raspberry Pi warns: “Allow for voltage loss in the cable, especially if your power supply cable is removable.” A bank and cable that appear to meet the nominal rating may still deliver too little voltage at the board under load.
How to choose and verify a bank
- Identify the exact board and peripherals. Use the model-specific supply recommendation above, then account for USB devices and other connected hardware. Raspberry Pi’s hardware documentation gives total USB peripheral limits of 1,200 mA across Pi 2/3/4 and 600 mA or 1,600 mA for Pi 5 depending on supply capacity. Those are peripheral limits, not measurements of FFmpeg’s power draw.
- Check the bank’s documented output profile. Confirm the voltage and available current for the output port you will use, under the intended operating conditions. For a Pi 4, “USB-C power bank 5V 3A for Raspberry Pi 4” is a useful search phrase, not a guarantee of 24/7 suitability. Do not treat a 5 V/3 A bank as an adequate Pi 5 supply simply because it can power a Pi 4.
- Use a suitable cable and check voltage at the device end. A USB-C power meter can help you observe voltage while the Pi is under load; pair it with a suitable, short cable. A reading without the real FFmpeg workload does not establish stability during streaming.
- Run the real workload before relying on it. Test the Pi, encoder settings, peripherals, cable, and bank together for the conditions you expect. Observe voltage and watch for low-voltage warnings, stream interruptions, or unexpected restarts. Measure runtime at that actual load rather than estimating it from the bank’s printed mAh capacity.
- Confirm continuous-use behavior with the maker. If the bank will remain plugged into a charger while powering the Pi, check whether that exact model supports pass-through operation and continuous use. Do not assume it does. Also check its documented thermal and battery behavior and local India warranty and availability.
Raspberry Pi documentation says low-voltage detection on most models since Pi B+—excluding Zero models—triggers below 4.63 V (±5%). A warning threshold is not proof that a setup is stable, nor does the absence of a warning prove that it will run uninterrupted for days.

What FFmpeg and YouTube settings do—and do not—tell you
YouTube’s official live encoder guidance recommends RTMP or RTMPS ingest; H.264, H.265, or AV1 video; CBR; and a 2-second keyframe interval, not exceeding 4 seconds. Its H.264 recommendations include 5 Mbps for 1080p30 and 3 Mbps for 720p30. These are YouTube ingest recommendations, not a power profile or proof that a particular Pi can encode a chosen resolution and frame rate continuously.
Streaming bitrate is not a basis for calculating power-bank runtime. The evidence here does not establish FFmpeg performance, hardware encoder support, temperature behavior, electrical consumption, or achievable quality for a specific Pi and workload. Test the exact combination instead of inferring those results from YouTube’s ingest settings.

- Run a speed test and choose a bitrate your upload connection can sustain.
- Test before relying on the stream, using similar audio and movement to the intended content.
- Monitor YouTube stream health and its messages while testing.
YouTube’s guidance says: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” A successful ingest test checks the streaming path; it does not replace a power and runtime test on the Pi.

These solve different problems. A power bank may power a Pi away from mains, but its actual output, runtime, and pass-through behavior need to be established for the exact model. A Pi-compatible UPS is a separate option if your goal is brief outage bridging or a controlled shutdown; choosing one does not by itself prove a bank can run continuously. If the goal is to keep a YouTube channel live from uploaded video without leaving a Pi or home computer on, a cloud service is another approach.
