If your iPhone supports Qi wireless charging but lacks MagSafe magnets, choose a Qi-certified charger and a stand that physically supports the phone. A magnetic Qi2 stand may charge a compatible phone when it is placed on the surface, but you should not expect it to snap onto or hold an iPhone 16e or older non-MagSafe iPhone.
What “without full MagSafe compatibility” means
This guide is for iPhones that can charge wirelessly but do not have MagSafe magnetic alignment, especially iPhone 16e and older Qi-compatible models. That is different from a MagSafe-equipped iPhone that supports magnetic attachment but has a particular maximum charging rate.
Apple lists iPhone 16e and iPhone 11, X, XS, XR, and 8 families as non-MagSafe, Qi-compatible devices. Its MagSafe guidance says those phones can charge from a MagSafe Charger, but power and charging times differ. Charging compatibility does not mean the magnets will attach.
Which chargers and stands make sense?
Qi-certified charging stand: the practical choice
For a phone without MagSafe magnets, start with a Qi-certified wireless charging stand that has a shelf, ledge, or other physical support. Check that the stand’s charging surface, angle, and support can hold your exact phone securely, including its case. Apple’s guidance says to place an iPhone face up near the center of a Qi charger; on a stand, correct alignment still matters.

Apple says iPhone 8 or later can use Qi-certified chargers. For iPhone 16e specifically, its technical specifications say “Wireless charging (works with Qi chargers).” Those statements establish Qi support, not Qi2 magnetic alignment.
Magnetic Qi2 stand: only if the phone is explicitly supported
Do not choose a magnetic Qi2 stand on the assumption that the Qi2 name guarantees your phone will attach. The Wireless Power Consortium’s 2023 explanation describes Qi2’s Magnetic Power Profile as based on MagSafe technology, alongside an enhanced profile that does not include magnets. Product pages also use different compatibility and speed claims, so confirm the exact supported phones and charging mode.

Belkin and Anker list Qi2 chargers and stands, but their product listings do not establish that a magnetic mount will hold an iPhone 16e or another non-MagSafe phone. Consider these stands for a MagSafe-equipped phone, or only when the manufacturer explicitly supports the intended non-MagSafe phone and the stand has suitable mechanical support.
MagSafe Charger used as a charging surface
Apple says its MagSafe Charger is certified for Qi2 25W and Qi and can wirelessly charge iPhone 8 or later. It also notes that performance differs with non-MagSafe Qi devices. This makes it a possible charging surface, not a promise that the charger will magnetically hold a phone without MagSafe alignment.

Charging speeds: what the published figures do and do not promise
Apple says many Qi-certified chargers charge iPhone at up to 7.5 watts. This is general guidance, not a guaranteed rate for every phone, charger, stand, adapter, or charging condition; Apple cautions that functionality and performance may vary.
Apple’s MagSafe-specific limits should not be applied to a generic Qi2 charger or a non-MagSafe iPhone. Its support article, published March 31, 2026, says specified iPhone 17 and iPhone 16 models can reach up to 25 watts with listed MagSafe Charger models and a 30-watt-or-greater adapter. For iPhone 15 and earlier, it gives up to 15 watts with a different specified MagSafe Charger and a 20-watt-or-greater adapter, with a separate 12-watt note for mini models. These are particular MagSafe combinations, not general Qi or Qi2 guarantees.

How to choose a stand for your iPhone
- Confirm the phone’s wireless standard. Check the exact iPhone model’s specifications. “Works with Qi chargers” confirms Qi support; it does not establish magnetic Qi2 attachment.
- Check how the phone is held. For a non-MagSafe phone, look for a shelf, base, or other mechanical support rather than relying on magnets. Confirm fit with the case you plan to use.
- Verify the charging claim. Look for the manufacturer’s precise Qi certification and output specification. Do not infer Qi2 support or a particular charging rate from the word “magnetic.”
- Check the power adapter. Confirm whether a USB-C adapter is included or sold separately and whether its output meets the charger’s stated requirement.
- Check placement and case compatibility. Apple recommends centering an iPhone on a Qi charger. Cases or objects can affect charging, so follow the stand maker’s placement and case guidance.
- Match the stand to where you use it. Compare viewing angle, desk or bedside footprint, portability, and whether you need to charge another device at the same time. These are practical selection criteria, not a tested ranking.
Quick compatibility guide
| Phone or charger situation | What to expect |
|---|---|
| iPhone 16e | Apple specifies wireless charging that works with Qi chargers; it is not MagSafe-compatible. Do not expect magnetic attachment. |
| iPhone 11, X, XS, XR, or 8 family | Apple identifies these as Qi-compatible, non-MagSafe devices. A Qi charger can work, but magnetic alignment is not established. |
| MagSafe Charger with a non-MagSafe Qi iPhone | Apple says it can charge these devices, with different power and charging times. That does not mean the phone will attach magnetically. |
| Magnetic Qi2 stand | Do not assume attachment or a specific charging rate for a phone without MagSafe magnets. Confirm explicit phone support and mechanical retention. |
