For PRISM Live Studio desktop, start with 1920×1080 progressive, H.264, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and 10 Mbps at 30 fps or 12 Mbps at 60 fps. Match the frame rate to your video when practical, keep about 20% upload capacity in reserve, and test the video’s repeat behavior in your installed PRISM version before relying on it to loop unattended.

Recommended 1080p settings

PRISM setting Starting value How to choose
Resolution 1920×1080, progressive Use 1080p output for a 1080p stream. Matching the media file’s resolution to the output avoids unnecessary scaling.
Encoder H.264 Use this straightforward baseline. PRISM also lists AV1/H.265 options, but availability and hardware performance vary.
Rate control CBR PRISM’s official YouTube settings table specifies constant bitrate for this setup.
Frame rate and video bitrate 30 fps: 10,000 Kbps (10 Mbps)
60 fps: 12,000 Kbps (12 Mbps)
These are PRISM’s published H.264 YouTube starting values. Use 30 fps for a 30 fps or low-motion source; use 60 fps when the source and motion benefit from it and your PC and connection can sustain it.
Keyframe interval 2 seconds Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds.
Audio AAC or MP3; 128 Kbps stereo is YouTube’s recommended stereo setting Keep audio enabled if the video has sound, then check it in YouTube’s preview.
Transport RTMPS recommended by YouTube Use an encrypted RTMPS ingest option if PRISM and your YouTube setup offer it.

PRISM’s recommended video bitrates fit within YouTube’s broader H.264 ingest ranges: 5–14 Mbps for 1080p30 and 6–17 Mbps for 1080p60. These ranges are YouTube Help guidance, while the 10 Mbps and 12 Mbps values are PRISM’s specific starting points. YouTube accepts frame rates up to 60 fps; converting a 30 fps source to 60 fps usually adds encoding and network load without a clear benefit.

Set up PRISM Live Studio desktop

  1. Prepare the video. Prefer a file already encoded at 1920×1080 if you plan to send a 1080p feed. Choose a source frame rate your computer and connection can handle; matching the source’s natural frame rate is generally preferable to converting it.
  2. Add the file as a media source. In PRISM desktop, add the video file through the media-source controls. PRISM’s official guide describes adding a file and autoplay behavior in Studio Mode; menu labels can vary by app version.
  3. Set output resolution and frame rate. Open Settings > Video and set the stream resolution and FPS. Use 1920×1080 and choose 30 or 60 fps based on the source and motion needs.
  4. Set the stream encoder. In PRISM’s streaming/output settings, choose H.264, CBR, the matching bitrate from the table above, and a 2-second keyframe interval. The exact encoder control can depend on your hardware and PRISM version. PRISM recommends a supported dedicated NVIDIA or AMD hardware encoder when available.
  5. Configure the YouTube stream. Create or select a YouTube live stream, copy its stream key into PRISM’s streaming destination, and keep the key private. Confirm the selected YouTube ingest transport and audio settings.
  6. Test before going public. Start an unlisted test with representative motion and audio. Check the YouTube Live Control Room preview, stream health messages, audio, and whether playback restarts or repeats as you expect.

Confirm the video really loops

Do not assume that autoplay means indefinite looping. PRISM’s published desktop Media Source guide explains how to add a file and handle autoplay in Studio Mode, but does not establish an always-repeat control or its current label. In your installed version, test what happens when the file reaches its end and verify that it starts again without intervention. If it stops, check the current source options and PRISM documentation for your version before scheduling an unattended stream.

Choose 30 or 60 fps, and Wi-Fi or Ethernet

Decision Choose this when Trade-off
30 fps vs. 60 fps Use the source’s native frame rate where practical. 30 fps suits 30 fps or low-motion material; 60 fps suits 60 fps content or motion that visibly benefits from smoother movement. 60 fps requires more encoding and upload capacity. PRISM notes that higher resolution and FPS can add system load.
Wi-Fi vs. wired Ethernet Use the most reliable connection you can measure. Try wired Ethernet if Wi-Fi fluctuations coincide with stream-health problems. Ethernet can reduce local wireless variability, but will not fix an overloaded network or weak ISP upload service.
H.264 vs. AV1/H.265 Use H.264 as the straightforward baseline; consider another codec only if PRISM, YouTube, and your hardware support it appropriately. Codec availability and hardware performance vary; the H.264 bitrate guidance above does not automatically apply to other codecs.

Plan upload capacity and run a preflight

  • Leave headroom. YouTube recommends about 20% upload headroom beyond the stream’s required bitrate. Account for audio and any other traffic using the same connection.
  • Check actual outbound capacity. A plan’s advertised speed is not a guarantee of steady upload performance. Check the connection you will use for the stream, preferably at the time and location you intend to broadcast.
  • Use a representative test. Test the actual file, motion, audio, resolution, and frame rate. Review YouTube’s Live Control Room preview and stream health before making the stream public.
  • Reduce load if needed. Close resource-heavy applications and lower FPS, bitrate, or output resolution if playback or encoding stutters. Try the next lower setting, then repeat the test.

Troubleshooting common problems

Symptom Likely cause What to try
Video stutters or PRISM struggles to encode The PC cannot decode, scale, and encode the source smoothly at the chosen settings, or other programs are using resources. Close resource-heavy programs. Match media resolution to output, reduce FPS or output resolution, and test again. If available and supported, try PRISM’s dedicated NVIDIA or AMD hardware encoder; hardware decoding can also increase GPU load.
YouTube reports unstable stream health or dropped frames Upload capacity is insufficient or fluctuating, or competing traffic is consuming bandwidth. Check the actual outbound connection, leave roughly 20% headroom, and reduce bitrate if needed. If Wi-Fi fluctuation is the issue, test wired Ethernet; it cannot remedy a weak ISP connection or an overloaded network.
The video plays once and stops Autoplay/source activation behavior is not the same as repeating continuously after the file ends. Test the end-of-file behavior in your PRISM version and verify a repeat option in the current controls or documentation. Do not rely on unattended looping until the test confirms it.
Audio is missing or wrong in YouTube’s preview The source audio may be disabled, routed incorrectly, or incompatible with the selected output setup. Confirm audio is enabled, use AAC or MP3 for RTMP/RTMPS, and check that stereo audio is set as intended. Listen in the YouTube preview during an unlisted test.
YouTube does not receive the PRISM stream The selected destination or stream key may be incorrect, or the YouTube live stream may not be ready. Check the YouTube destination and copy the matching stream key again into PRISM. Do not share the key; verify the incoming preview in Live Control Room.

Copyright, reused content, and stream-key safety

A technically valid loop is not automatically permitted content. Before streaming, make sure you have the rights or permissions needed for the video, music, and other material, and review YouTube’s applicable copyright and monetization policies. Replaying the same recording does not itself establish that a channel meets YouTube’s reused-content or monetization requirements. Keep your stream key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to that live destination.
