The iPhone 17 Pro is the clearest fully specified alternative to compare if you want a high-resolution main, ultra-wide and telephoto camera, macro photography and ProRAW capture. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is also worth considering if a physical shutter accessory matters to you, but Leica’s announcement establishes the kit’s two-stage shutter—not local availability or the phone’s camera specifications. Neither phone can be called a better photographer than Google’s Pixel 11 Pro or Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra on specifications alone; that requires comparable photo testing.
Which alternatives are worth considering?
Based on the published information available for these models, the iPhone 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Ultra are the two alternatives with specific photography-related features worth weighing against the Pixel 11 Pro and Galaxy S26 Ultra. They serve different priorities: Apple documents camera coverage, macro and raw capture, while Leica documents a two-stage shutter accessory for Xiaomi.
Google announced the Pixel 11 series on 12 August 2026, including the Pixel 11 Pro. It is a current reference phone, not a forthcoming model. The Galaxy S26 Ultra is the other reference point; the camera specifications cited below are from Samsung’s UK product page, so check the configuration and availability in your own market.

iPhone 17 Pro: the most fully documented alternative here
The iPhone 17 Pro is the most straightforward alternative to assess from the cited sources because Apple specifies all three rear cameras and several still-photography tools. Its three 48 MP cameras cover 13 mm ultra-wide, 24 mm main and 100 mm 4x telephoto perspectives; Apple also lists optical-quality 8x framing at 200 mm and 48 MP macro photography.
Consider it if you want ProRAW capture, close-up photography or the Apple ecosystem. Those are feature-based reasons to shortlist it, not evidence that its photos outperform the Pixel or Galaxy. The Apple support page cited here is a technical specification page, not confirmation that this is Apple’s newest iPhone or that it is available in every market.

Xiaomi 17 Ultra: consider it for the physical shutter accessory
Leica’s announcement identifies two accessories—the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Photography Kit and Photography Kit Pro—and says both add a two-stage shutter release. That makes Xiaomi relevant if you prefer a more camera-like physical control. The cited announcement does not provide camera specifications, establish kit compatibility in every country, or confirm local stock, warranty terms or sales status. Verify those details with the seller or Xiaomi in your market before choosing it.
How to choose for your photography
Use the features that match the pictures you actually take rather than comparing megapixel counts in isolation. The published specifications can help you narrow a shortlist, but they do not establish which phone produces the best results.

Can specifications tell you which phone takes the best photos?
No. Camera resolution, focal lengths, zoom labels and feature lists describe hardware or manufacturer-stated capabilities; they are not controlled comparisons of exposure, color, detail, motion handling, night scenes or consistency. The sources cited here do not establish an image-quality winner among the four phones. If photo quality is the deciding factor, compare independent sample sets taken in the same conditions, including the focal lengths and lighting you use most.
