For a 24/7 YouTube product demonstration using OBS, start with H.264 video, CBR rate control, a 2-second keyframe interval, AAC stereo audio, and Rec. 709 color for an SDR stream. Set resolution and frame rate for clear product detail and motion, then choose the matching YouTube bitrate recommendation and confirm your measured upload can sustain it with headroom. These settings support a stable ingest signal; they do not by themselves guarantee uninterrupted operation around the clock.
Recommended OBS settings for YouTube Live
For an ordinary SDR product demonstration, use YouTube’s H.264 recommendations as a starting point. Exact menu names can vary by OBS version and operating system, but the relevant controls are generally in Settings > Output, Settings > Video, and Settings > Audio.

Set the video bitrate to match resolution and frame rate
YouTube’s H.264 recommendations include the following combinations. They are platform recommendations, not guarantees that your connection can sustain them.

Use YouTube’s current bitrate table for combinations not shown here and for other ingest codecs. Do not assume that a bitrate recommendation is a universal optimum for every camera, scene, or connection.

Choose resolution and frame rate for the product
Make labels, controls, and other product details readable at the output resolution. Use a frame rate that makes the demonstration’s movement clear: a mostly static display may not benefit from 60 fps, while closeups, hand movement, or fast camera motion may need more fluid motion. Higher frame rate is not automatically better; it also changes the matching bitrate target and the demands on your connection and encoder.
Check upload capacity before choosing a continuous bitrate
Use measured upload speed, not download speed, to judge whether OBS can deliver the stream. YouTube recommends testing upload speed and advises allowing 20% upload-bandwidth headroom. For example, a stream set to 14 Mbps needs more than 14 Mbps of usable upload capacity; leave additional capacity for network variation and other traffic. A shared office connection may give OBS less than the connection’s advertised headline speed.

- Measure upload speed on the network and at the location where the stream will run.
- Choose the resolution and frame rate needed to make the product legible and its movement clear.
- Set the corresponding YouTube bitrate recommendation in OBS, while preserving the recommended headroom and capacity for other network use.
- Run a representative test and watch YouTube’s preview and stream health. If frames drop or health deteriorates, reduce the target or address the network bottleneck before increasing quality.
YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple output formats for viewers, but transcoding does not compensate for an unstable feed from OBS.
Choose an encoder your system can sustain
In OBS, select an encoder supported by the installed system, then judge it under the load of the actual scene—not just an empty preview. OBS says hardware encoding generally moves work from the CPU to a specialized GPU component. Modern hardware encoders can provide good quality with minimal performance impact, while earlier generations may deliver lower image quality at the same bitrate. The available evidence does not identify a universally best GPU or encoder for every product-demo workstation.

Configure YouTube latency for the kind of demonstration
Use normal latency when viewers do not need to interact with you in real time. YouTube notes that lower latency may increase playback buffering and is less important when the creator is not interacting with the audience. If live questions or responsive demonstrations are central to the format, test the latency choice with viewers and weigh interaction delay against playback stability.

- Build a representative OBS scene. Include the real camera or screen capture, product movement, lighting, graphics, and audio planned for the channel.
- Configure the YouTube destination. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube and the appropriate server or connection option, then connect the account or enter the stream key from YouTube Studio. Treat the key as a password; do not publish it or show it on screen.
- Review output settings. Confirm encoder, CBR, bitrate, keyframe interval, resolution, frame rate, and audio settings against the recommendations above.
- Start a test well before the intended continuous run. YouTube Help says: “Make sure that you test before you start your live stream. Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.”
- Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health. Verify that the video is readable, audio is clear, and the stream appears as expected to viewers; review YouTube’s messages before committing to a long run.
- Plan any backup encoder deliberately. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend starting the encoder before an event and testing backup-encoder failover when using a backup.
A successful preflight lowers avoidable setup risk; it does not promise that a 24/7 stream will stay online without interruption.

What OBS settings cannot guarantee about 24/7 uptime
CBR, bitrate, and keyframes govern the outgoing media signal; they do not automatically restart OBS after an application or operating-system failure, restore power, repair an ISP outage, or recover from every YouTube ingest interruption. OBS documents dropped-frame and network troubleshooting, but settings alone are not a complete unattended operations plan.

- For a self-hosted setup, decide how you will detect a failure and restart the encoder, and test the procedure.
- Consider power and network resilience if an interruption has material consequences.
- Monitor stream health and establish who will respond to an alert, rather than assuming a stable initial test guarantees future continuity.
- OBS dynamic bitrate is documented as a beta measure that can lower bitrate during congestion. OBS cautions that it does not fix the root connection problem, and lowering bitrate reduces quality.
Copyright and content checks for a product-demo channel
Before using music, video clips, product imagery, or other material you did not create, verify that you have the rights and permissions needed for a YouTube livestream. A stream that uses prerecorded demonstration footage still has to meet YouTube’s applicable policies. Keep the content genuinely useful and clearly tied to your product; technical streaming settings do not determine whether a channel or its content complies with YouTube rules.
