For a cartoon source recorded at 30 fps or less, start with 1920×1080 output at 30 fps, H.264 video at a constant 10 Mbps bitrate (CBR), a 2-second keyframe interval, and stereo AAC audio at 128 Kbps. Use RTMPS and Rec. 709 SDR. These are YouTube’s general ingest recommendations for the resolution, frame rate, and codec—not settings tested specifically on cartoon footage. A stream that must stay live for 24 hours also needs a stable, continuously available encoder and a plan for local recording, because YouTube may not capture streams longer than 12 hours.
Recommended OBS profile for 1080p cartoons
Use this as a starting profile for a source whose frame rate is 30 fps or lower. YouTube’s live encoder guidance recommends these H.264 rates by resolution and frame rate; it does not set a special bitrate for cartoons.
| OBS setting | Starting value | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Output resolution | 1920×1080 | Delivers a 1080p stream. |
| Frame rate | 30 fps | Matches a 30 fps-or-slower cartoon source. Avoid needlessly increasing the output frame rate. |
| Video codec | H.264 | A straightforward compatibility baseline for YouTube ingest. |
| Rate control | CBR | YouTube recommends constant bitrate for live ingest. |
| Video bitrate | 10 Mbps | YouTube’s H.264 recommendation for 1080p30. Its listed minimum is 5 Mbps. YouTube live encoder settings. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds. |
| Audio | AAC, stereo, 128 Kbps | YouTube-specific starting point for stereo audio. |
| Connection protocol | RTMPS | YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension of RTMP. |
| Color | SDR, Rec. 709, 8-bit | Use HDR only if the source, encoder, and full workflow are deliberately configured for it. |
YouTube also lists progressive scan, two B-frames, and one reference frame in its advanced encoder guidance. Use those values where your chosen encoder exposes them. YouTube lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS, but H.264 is the sensible compatibility baseline unless your encoder and workflow support another codec. Its current guidance identifies H.265 for HDR and says AV1 is not supported for HDR. See YouTube’s live encoder recommendations.

Set the values in OBS
- Set canvas and output video. Open Settings → Video. Set Output (Scaled) Resolution to 1920×1080 and Common FPS Values to 30. Match the source frame rate when practical; if the cartoon is 24 or 25 fps, do not assume converting it to 30 fps adds motion detail. OBS notes that 60 fps can demand more system resources than 30 fps, so test capacity before choosing it. OBS hardware encoding guidance.
- Choose a video encoder and bitrate. In Settings → Output, select Advanced output mode if needed to expose encoder controls. In the streaming section, select an H.264 encoder, set Rate Control to CBR, Bitrate to 10000 Kbps, and Keyframe Interval to 2 s. OBS labels can vary by encoder; set the corresponding controls if the names differ. YouTube’s ingest recommendation is 10 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p30. YouTube’s bitrate table and OBS streaming guidance.
- Select a stable encoder. If the computer has a supported hardware encoder that works reliably, it can shift encoding work from the CPU to a specialized component. This is a performance option, not a reason to buy a specific graphics card. If you use a software encoder, confirm the CPU can encode continuously without overload. OBS hardware encoder overview.
- Set audio. In OBS output audio settings, use AAC, stereo, and 128 Kbps. This follows YouTube’s live recommendation for stereo audio rather than OBS’s more general overview bitrate.
- Set color. In Settings → Advanced, use Color Format 8-bit and Color Space Rec. 709 for SDR. Do not enable HDR unless the cartoon source, encoder, and streaming workflow all support the intended HDR format. YouTube’s encoder settings.
- Configure the YouTube destination. In OBS Settings → Stream, choose YouTube as the service, select RTMPS if the available server option provides it, and enter the stream key from YouTube Live Control Room. Keep the key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your channel. YouTube recommends RTMPS for secure ingest. YouTube Live streaming setup.
Choose 30 fps or 60 fps
For most cartoon loops sourced at 30 fps or below, use 1080p30. Choose 1080p60 only when the source is genuinely 60 fps and preserving its smoother motion matters. YouTube’s H.264 recommendation for 1080p60 is 17 Mbps, with a listed minimum of 6 Mbps; the recommendation is not specific to cartoons. A 60 fps encode also places more load on the system, so verify sustained performance rather than assuming the computer can handle it.

Make a 24/7 stream stable
Check upload capacity over time
Your outbound connection must consistently carry the selected stream bitrate, plus overhead and any other traffic using the connection. YouTube advises testing that the upload connection is sufficient. OBS suggests 75% of total upload speed as a starting heuristic when selecting bitrate, but a single speed-test peak does not prove a connection will hold for a day. Watch OBS’s dropped-frame statistics during a representative test; if network drops persist, reduce bitrate or improve the connection. A wired connection can remove Wi‑Fi variability, but it cannot create upload capacity your service does not provide. YouTube connection guidance; OBS dropped-frame troubleshooting.

Test the actual loop before launch
- Run a private or unlisted test with the same cartoon footage, audio, encoder, and network conditions you plan to use.
- Review the Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages, and listen for audio problems as well as checking video playback. YouTube automatically transcodes live streams into multiple viewer formats, so you do not need to create every viewer resolution yourself. YouTube live streaming tips.
- Check OBS for encoding overload and dropped frames. A stable preview at startup is not enough; monitor it long enough to catch intermittent connection or system problems.
- If you need high availability and have a backup encoder configured, test failover by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet cable, then confirm the player rolls over to the backup. This is an advanced redundancy check, not a requirement for an ordinary stream. YouTube encoder failover tips.
Protect the archive
YouTube can automatically archive live streams shorter than 12 hours, but streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If the recording matters, enable a local OBS recording and verify that the file continues growing; YouTube also recommends a local archive backup. Another option is to end and restart the broadcast in sessions shorter than 12 hours, accepting that the channel will not remain in one uninterrupted session during each restart. YouTube live stream archiving guidance.
Keep the cartoon and audio eligible to stream
Technical settings do not grant rights to the material you broadcast. Before using a cartoon, soundtrack, theme music, or other audio, confirm that you have the rights or permission needed for livestreaming and any archive. YouTube’s copyright systems can identify protected material, and rights-holder action may affect a live broadcast or its replay. A loop being pre-recorded, publicly available, or already uploaded elsewhere does not by itself establish permission. Review YouTube’s current copyright safety checklist before scheduling a loop.

A continuous stream also does not guarantee monetization. YouTube evaluates channel eligibility and monetization policies separately; repetitive or reused material may raise policy issues even when you are permitted to use it. Check YouTube’s current channel monetization policies rather than assuming that a technically successful stream qualifies.
