The best OBS plugin depends on what you want to improve: Move for animated scene transitions, Advanced Scene Switcher for automation, and Aitum Vertical to investigate for a vertical-stream workflow. None is a universal must-have. Before installing, confirm support for your OBS version, operating system, and processor architecture, and follow the plugin author’s current instructions.
Which OBS plugins should you install?
OBS plugins add sources, filters, and other features, and some let OBS communicate with hardware. Choose one to solve a specific production problem rather than installing plugins simply because they are popular. OBS’s Plugins Guide explains the role plugins play and cautions that compatibility can vary by platform and architecture.

These are workflow-based suggestions, not results of comparative performance testing. Find the listings in the OBS Studio Plugins directory. For Aitum Vertical in particular, inspect its resource page and current release notes to confirm that its features and supported platforms match your setup.
Move for animated transitions
Move is the most directly evidenced fit if your goal is to animate a source’s position or size as you transition between scenes. Check its resource listing and the author’s documentation for current requirements and installation steps; the directory update date alone does not prove compatibility with your specific OBS build.

Advanced Scene Switcher for automation
Advanced Scene Switcher is worth considering when you want tasks to run in response to configured conditions and actions. Its update notes show that it can interact with other plugins, but automation needs vary by stream and machine. Review the documented triggers and actions against your actual workflow instead of assuming every feature is appropriate for every setup. The plugin’s update notes include version 1.36.1 and an August 2026 listing.
Aitum Vertical for a vertical-format workflow
Aitum Vertical’s presence in the trending resources directory makes it a candidate to investigate, not a verified recommendation for a particular platform or feature set. Check its current resource page and release notes before relying on it for a vertical production.

Other focused plugins
The OBS directory also lists tools such as shader filters and a downstream keyer. These may fit specific visual-effects or production needs, but directory placement is not a comparative test or evidence that a tool is right for your stream. Browse the live OBS resources directory for a focused option, then assess its documentation and compatibility.
How to check compatibility before installing
A plugin can be unsuitable even if it works for another streamer: support may depend on your OBS version, operating system, and processor architecture. OBS notes that plugins may be platform-specific, architecture-specific, or not yet updated for a current OBS release. Its Plugins Guide provides platform-specific manual-install locations, including separate guidance for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Flatpak.

- Record your setup: identify your installed OBS Studio version, operating system, and processor architecture.
- Open the plugin’s own resource page and documentation: verify that the author supports your OBS version and platform, and check release notes for installation requirements or known limitations.
- Check maintenance and installation method: use the plugin’s own recent release information and follow the author’s current installation instructions. Do not treat a directory listing date as proof of compatibility.
- Review OBS’s install-location guidance: use the instructions for your platform and installation type, including Flatpak where applicable.
- After installing, check OBS’s Plugins menu and startup behavior: if OBS flags a plugin as legacy or does not load it as expected, revisit its installation path and the author’s current instructions.
What changes with OBS Studio 33.0 plugin locations?
OBS says that, starting with OBS Studio 33.0, plugins installed in old locations will continue to work for now but show a Legacy indicator. OBS also says a future version will stop loading plugins from those locations. Before installing a plugin or upgrading OBS, check whether the plugin author has updated its installer and instructions for the newer locations. Do not use the OBS Studio 28 compatibility table as a current guarantee
OBS’s OBS Studio 28 Plugin Compatibility page is dated August 31, 2022, and OBS describes the table as non-exhaustive. It includes examples such as Move Transition and Source Record, but it does not establish that those plugins—or any entry in the table—will work with an OBS installation in 2026. Use plugin-specific current documentation instead.

Do you need a Stream Deck?
No. OBS notes that some plugins allow the application to communicate with hardware such as an Elgato Stream Deck. A Stream Deck is an optional way to add physical control buttons, not a requirement for using the plugins discussed here.
