For a desktop YouTube broadcast built from local music files, OBS Studio with its VLC Video Source is the most direct playlist workflow: it can play an ordered list, loop it, and optionally shuffle it. For server-based radio rotation and scheduling, AzuraCast is a better fit, but it needs a separate YouTube encoder or relay setup. If you want uploaded videos to keep looping in the cloud without leaving a computer on, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only alternative. Before choosing any workflow, clear the digital livestream rights for every recording; a playlist or software licence does not grant permission to rebroadcast commercial Indian songs.
Which option fits your 24/7 Indian-music channel?
These options solve different parts of the job. StreamNeo handles cloud playback of uploaded videos or playlists; OBS is a desktop production and streaming tool with a local playlist source; AzuraCast automates a self-hosted internet-radio station. None supplies music rights.
- StreamNeo — cloud playback. For a YouTube channel that needs uploaded videos or playlists to keep running without a computer at home, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud. It supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and the first day is free with no card. See StreamNeo.
- OBS Studio with VLC — desktop playlist and scene. Choose this if you want to assemble and broadcast a scene from files on a computer you control. OBS is free and commercially usable; its VLC source can play a list, loop it, or shuffle it. The computer and broadcast chain remain your responsibility.
- AzuraCast — self-hosted radio automation. Choose this if you need AutoDJ rotation, schedule rules, and radio-station playlist management. Its documented radio automation is not a one-click YouTube output; configure a compatible encoder or relay separately.
| Option | Playlist and automation | YouTube delivery | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Loops uploaded videos and playlists from the cloud; 10 GB storage per slot, pooled across active slots. | YouTube-only stream; add your YouTube stream key. | It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a live camera feed. You still need rights to the music. |
| OBS Studio with VLC | Local audio or video files in a playlist; loop and shuffle controls. | OBS sends the broadcast to YouTube using your stream setup. | The host computer, internet connection, and recovery are yours to manage. |
| AzuraCast | AutoDJ, sequential or shuffled rotations, scheduled blocks, and playlist priority options. | Requires a separately configured YouTube-compatible encoder or relay. | More server and broadcast-chain configuration; radio automation alone does not deliver to YouTube. |
Clear music rights before building the playlist
Having an audio file, a public playlist, or access to a song through a music service does not establish permission to broadcast that recording publicly on YouTube. YouTube says it scans every live stream for matches to third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder image; if the material remains, it may interrupt or terminate the stream. Even a licensed recording can trigger interruption if the channel is not on the rights holder’s Content ID allowlist. YouTube also notes that an archived stream may receive a Content ID claim after the live broadcast ends. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

For Indian songs, do not assume a public-performance permission covers a digital YouTube livestream. PPL India says it does not issue licences for use of sound recordings on a digital platform and directs virtual music users to the individual labels. Its public-performance permission applies to songs in the repertoire it represents; it is not, by itself, evidence that a YouTube livestream is cleared. Contact the relevant rights holders and confirm the rights for each recording, territory, duration, monetization model, and the channel’s Content ID allowlisting. PPL India’s guidance is at its licensing FAQ.

Do not use music played from YouTube or YouTube Music as the source for a public rebroadcast just because it is available in a playlist. YouTube’s Terms of Service give public screening of videos and streaming music from the service as examples of non-personal use the terms prohibit. YouTube’s live Content ID matching feature is for eligible rights owners using Content Manager; it does not grant a channel permission to use songs it does not own. The stated feature requirements include global rights and exclusive ownership of material in the live stream; see YouTube’s live Content ID matching details.
Set up a local playlist with OBS Studio and VLC
Use this workflow only for recordings you own or are explicitly licensed to stream. The menu wording and source behavior can vary by operating system and software version, so check the current OBS Help Portal if a control differs in your installation.

- Create a mix using audio, music and voice tracks and recordings.
- Customize your tracks with amazing effects and helpful editing tools.
- Use tools like the Beat Maker and Midi Creator.
- Work efficiently by using Bookmarks and tools like Effect Chain, which allow you to apply multiple effects at a time
- Use one of the many other NCH multimedia applications that are integrated with MixPad.
- Install OBS Studio and VLC. OBS documents .mp3, .aac, .ogg, and .wav support in its Media Source. For a playlist with extended media support, use the VLC Video Source and install VLC first. If you use 64-bit OBS, OBS says to install 64-bit VLC. Consult OBS Media Sources.
- Create the broadcast scene. In OBS, add a scene and add the VLC Video Source. Select the local files you have cleared for streaming and arrange them in the order you want. VLC’s source controls include loop and shuffle; choose the behavior that fits your channel. If you want a visual presentation, include video files or other visual elements in the scene rather than assuming an audio-only playlist will provide the on-screen look you want.
- Connect OBS to your YouTube live stream. Create or select a live stream in YouTube Studio, then use the stream key and connection details provided for that stream in OBS. Treat the stream key as a password: do not publish or share it. Configure the video and audio output settings to a format YouTube accepts for the selected stream; do not guess settings from another channel or encoder. The OBS and YouTube sources cited here do not establish a universal bitrate or resolution for every setup.
- Test before announcing the broadcast. Start a private or otherwise limited test if your channel setup allows it. Confirm that the picture and sound reach YouTube, the playlist advances, and the selected loop or shuffle behavior works. Watch YouTube Studio for stream health and Content ID notices.
- Plan for the computer and connection to stay available. A desktop broadcast depends on the host machine, encoder, and internet connection continuing to work. Arrange someone to monitor it and know how to restart OBS and reconnect the stream if any part stops. OBS’s documentation describes media-source behavior, not a continuous-service uptime guarantee.
When AzuraCast is the better playlist manager
AzuraCast is intended for operators who want a self-hosted radio station rather than a single desktop scene. Its media manager feeds AutoDJ when uploaded files are assigned to playlists. The project describes AutoDJ as composing a live radio broadcast 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can organize playlists into sequential or shuffled rotations, schedule blocks, and trigger playlists after a set number of songs or minutes. Individual playlist priorities are documented for releases after September 1, 2024. Details are in the AzuraCast media management guide and playlist documentation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThat automation is a radio-station capability, not a documented turnkey YouTube relay. AzuraCast also documents individual live streamer accounts connecting through Icecast- or Shoutcast-compatible broadcasting software; a separate YouTube-compatible encoder or relay workflow still needs to be configured and monitored. See AzuraCast’s streamer and DJ documentation and its project overview. AzuraCast is open-source software under AGPL version 3, according to its documentation.

What a desktop 24/7 setup needs beyond playlist software
If you choose OBS, the software is only one part of an always-on broadcast. A host computer must sustain the chosen encoding workload, and its connection must stay available. There is no verified hardware model or sizing specification here that guarantees uninterrupted operation, so assess the actual workload and environment rather than relying on a generic mini-PC recommendation.
- Encoding capacity: Compare the computer’s encoding capability with the output quality you intend to use and verify stability during a sustained run.
- Cooling and duty: Consider whether the machine can dissipate heat during continuous operation and whether its design is suitable for a long-running workload.
- Network reliability: Check the connection and recovery plan, not just its advertised peak speed. A disconnect can stop the outgoing broadcast.
- Repairability and monitoring: Decide how quickly you can restore the stream after a software, power, or hardware failure, and who will notice the interruption.
No reliable comparative uptime or total-cost figure is established for OBS versus AzuraCast. Compare the expenses that apply to your own arrangement—computer or server, power, network, and the time needed to monitor and recover it—rather than treating the software’s purchase price as the whole cost.

Troubleshoot common playlist and livestream failures
- The VLC playlist source is missing or will not load: Confirm VLC is installed and that its architecture matches OBS; OBS specifically calls for 64-bit VLC with 64-bit OBS. Check the current OBS media-source instructions for operating-system-specific behavior.
- Playback ends instead of continuing: Check the VLC source’s loop setting and confirm the playlist contains the intended files. If shuffle is enabled, the order will not be fixed.
- The stream stops when the computer is unattended: A desktop OBS stream depends on the host computer and connection. Check that the machine, OBS, and network remain available, and establish a monitoring and restart process.
- YouTube interrupts the live stream or shows a placeholder: YouTube may have matched third-party content. Review the stream’s notices, stop using the disputed material until permissions are confirmed, and ask the rights holder about channel allowlisting where applicable. A licence does not necessarily prevent interruption if the channel has not been allowlisted.
- The stream runs but does not reach YouTube: Verify that the correct YouTube stream key and connection details were entered in OBS, and check YouTube Studio’s stream status. If a key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- AzuraCast plays its radio stream but YouTube is not receiving it: AutoDJ manages radio playback; separately verify the configured encoder or relay and its YouTube connection.
