Monster Hunter Now is the closest verified match for mobile: it has real-world monster hunts, gear crafting, and group play on iOS and Android. If you mainly want real-time co-op action and dungeon bosses, Eternal Hero: MMO Action RPG is a looser alternative. Monster Hunter Outlanders is the most direct upcoming option, but its announced October 29, 2026 release date had not arrived when Capcom made its announcement on September 29.
Which mobile game is closest to Monster Hunter?
Monster Hunter Now most directly matches the hunt-and-cooperate premise. Scopely describes a cycle of exploring the real world, hunting monsters, gathering materials, and forging or upgrading weapons and armor. It is a location-based adaptation, not a full mainline Monster Hunter game: you play short hunts around real-world locations rather than exploring one continuous console-style world. Scopely’s game page describes hunts as lasting up to 75 seconds and says Paintballs can mark monsters to hunt later.
Scopely also notes that some monsters are too strong to face alone and encourages players to team up with nearby hunters. The game is available on iOS and Android; the Google Play listing describes solo and group hunts, crafting, tap-based controls, and Adventure Sync and Paintball features. These are publisher and store descriptions, not results from comparative gameplay testing.

The official group-hunt guide, whose basics were current as of September 2026, says group hunts can include up to four hunters, except for Urgent Quests. Players can join parties using QR codes, and nearby recruitment automatically starts after 120 seconds. For large monsters, the guide lists these minimum Hunter Ranks for higher-star group hunts:
#1 Best Overall
- Includes pre-coloured Azure Rathalos and Black Diablos miniatures that visually match their legendary variants, enhancing immersion and table presence.
- Designed to pair seamlessly with existing Monster Hunter World quests and cards, allowing hunters to experience encounters with accurate monster representation.
- Features large, highly detailed PVC figures that command attention during hunts, painting projects, or display collections.
- Ideal for collectors, hobbyists, and experienced players seeking elevated aesthetics without replacing existing gameplay components.
- Enhances cinematic impact and thematic authenticity during battles against two of the most iconic Monster Hunter adversaries.
| Large-monster hunt | Minimum Hunter Rank |
|---|---|
| 8-star | HR 50 |
| 9-star | HR 100 |
| 10-star | HR 150 |
The same guide describes dimensional-rift monsters, which can be hunted with faraway players, as well as Hunt-a-thons and Elder Dragon Interceptions at specific field locations. That gives players more than one kind of group encounter, but the location-based format remains central: these activities are tied to the game’s field map.
Other mobile options for co-op action and bosses
Eternal Hero: MMO Action RPG
If your priority is real-time co-op combat rather than Monster Hunter’s specific hunt-and-craft loop, Eternal Hero: MMO Action RPG is worth considering. Its US App Store listing describes an open-world hack-and-slash RPG with real-time co-op dungeons and the option to team up with friends or match with players worldwide. It is listed for iPhone and iPad and is free with in-app purchases.
Rank #2
- Add Kulu-Ya-Ku to Monster Hunter World: The Board Game and face a clever bird wyvern with unpredictable tactics and unusual battlefield behavior
- Hunt a creature known for wielding objects as weapons, challenging players to adapt their combat strategies and respond to unexpected encounters
- Track and engage Kulu-Ya-Ku while working toward quest objectives, creating a cooperative hunting experience filled with tactical decisions
- Adds new gameplay variety to Monster Hunter World: The Board Game, providing hunters with an additional monster encounter for expanded adventures
- Designed for fans of tactical tabletop combat and Monster Hunter, this expansion offers a distinctive challenge for players looking to grow their collection
The listing supports calling it a co-op action-RPG alternative, but it does not establish that hunting large creatures for parts and forging equipment is its core progression loop. Choose it for co-op dungeons and action, not as a one-to-one substitute for Monster Hunter. Store availability and features may vary by region and change.

Monster Hunter Outlanders is the most direct announced alternative, but it was not yet released as of Capcom’s September 29, 2026 announcement. Capcom scheduled an iOS and Android release for October 29, 2026, describing field exploration, monster hunting with companions, and controls optimized for mobile. The announcement says it will be free-to-play with in-app purchases; those details describe the announced plan, not confirmation that the game launched as scheduled. Check current regional store availability before treating it as playable.

- Introduces Kirin, a lightning-charged elder dragon mega boss that delivers one of the most demanding and strategic hunts in Monster Hunter World: The Board Game.
- Expands campaign depth with branching quests, rare loot rewards, and powerful crafting paths that reshape how hunters prepare for future encounters.
- Features escalating difficulty as Kirin grows more dangerous, forcing players to adapt tactics, optimize builds, and master risk-reward decisions.
- Includes a highly detailed Kirin miniature with commanding table presence, enhancing immersion and visual impact during epic boss battles.
- Designed for experienced tabletop players seeking intense cooperative gameplay, advanced strategy, and meaningful long-term progression.
Capcom’s announcement says mainland China release is scheduled from 2027 onward. The release also reports that cumulative sales for the entire Monster Hunter series exceeded 131 million units as of June 30, 2026. That is a series-wide figure, not sales for Outlanders or Monster Hunter Now. Capcom’s press release uses “Monster Hunter Outlanders” in its body but labels the title “Monster Hunter Wilds Outlanders” in its product-details table; use the body name unless the official product page clarifies the naming.
Pick by the kind of co-op you want
| Game | Best fit | Co-op and setting | Availability and platform |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monster Hunter Now | Closest match to monster hunts, material gathering, and gear crafting | Nearby group hunts, QR-code parties, and some faraway-player hunts; real-world location-based play | Available on iOS and Android |
| Eternal Hero: MMO Action RPG | Co-op action, dungeons, and matchmaking | Real-time dungeon co-op with friends or players worldwide; open-world hack-and-slash setting | Listed for iPhone and iPad in the US App Store; regional availability may vary |
| Monster Hunter Outlanders | Upcoming direct Monster Hunter-style mobile option | Announced field exploration and monster hunting with companions | Capcom announced iOS and Android release for October 29, 2026; verify current launch and local availability |
For two people who want to play together, the practical distinction is where the game expects co-op to happen. Monster Hunter Now is built around nearby players and real-world movement, with some remote group options. Eternal Hero’s listing explicitly describes worldwide matchmaking for dungeons, which may suit players who want to meet in-game instead. Outlanders’ announced features point toward a mobile Monster Hunter experience, but its actual launch status should be checked first.
Rank #4
- Kushala Daora shields itself with fierce winds, preventing anyone from approaching. Its skin — hard, metallic scales — can withstand all but the strongest weapons. You may as well try slaying a hurricane.

- With new choice-driven adventures to explore, new loot to collect, and rare new weapons to craft, this massive monster will widen your campaigns, changing your approach to core set monsters by opening your world to different paths to success.
- Battle increasingly tougher versions of Kushala Daora, crafting powerful elder dragon weapons to defeat even stronger monsters before you face the final boss!
What to know about pricing and outdoor play
Monster Hunter Now is a location-based mobile game, so longer sessions outdoors may make a portable power bank useful; neither Scopely nor the store listing says one is required or specifies a capacity. Eternal Hero’s US App Store listing says it is free with in-app purchases, and Capcom announced the same pricing model for Outlanders. Free-to-play labeling alone does not establish how much a player may choose or need to spend.
