An Intel N100 mini PC is a reasonable candidate for a modest-resolution, continuously running YouTube encoder, but the available specifications do not prove that any particular N100 model can sustain your exact stream around the clock. Choose the resolution, frame rate, scene complexity and encoder first; then test the complete setup. The Beelink Mini S12 Pro is one model to investigate, not a verified 24/7 winner.
What makes a PC suitable for a 24/7 YouTube stream?
“Low power” is only useful if the computer can encode the stream reliably under your real workload. A mostly static prerecorded scene is not equivalent to 1080p60 gameplay or a production with several sources, filters, overlays and local recording. The stream’s demands depend on the whole pipeline: source, OBS scene, encoder, cooling, network and recovery behavior.
- Set the streaming target: decide resolution, frame rate, codec and bitrate before choosing hardware.
- Confirm the encoder path: verify that your operating system, graphics hardware and drivers expose the hardware encoder you intend to use in your installed OBS version.
- Test the actual workload: include representative motion, audio, overlays and any recording you expect to run at the same time.
- Plan for continuity: consider ventilation, restart-after-power-loss settings, stream-health monitoring, network reliability and what happens after an interruption.
- Measure instead of guessing: use a wall-power meter and observe temperatures during a sustained run. CPU TDP or a test of a different mini PC cannot establish the system’s actual draw.
YouTube processes an incoming stream for viewers, so the encoder PC’s job is to deliver a compatible, stable feed—not to create every viewer rendition itself. YouTube’s current encoder guide lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1, frame rates up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended two-second keyframe interval with four seconds as the maximum. Its bitrate recommendations vary by codec and target; they are ingest recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular PC can encode the workload. See YouTube’s encoder settings.
Recommended Free Tools
| YouTube target | H.264 recommended bitrate | H.265/AV1 recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 6 Mbps | 12 Mbps |
These are the recommendations in YouTube’s guide, not evidence that an N100—or any other processor—will handle every scene at those settings. Use the same guide to confirm current settings for a different resolution or frame rate.

Is an Intel N100 mini PC enough?
For one uncomplicated stream at a modest target, an Intel N100 mini PC is a sensible category to investigate. OBS documents Intel Quick Sync Video (QSV) support on Windows and Linux; hardware encoding can shift encoding work from the CPU to a specialized graphics component when the hardware, drivers and software support it. That can reduce CPU encoding work, but it does not establish the capacity of a particular computer or scene. Check that QSV is actually available in your OBS installation. OBS explains the trade-offs in its hardware-encoding documentation.
Beelink Mini S12 Pro: a candidate, not a proven 24/7 pick
A manual mirror for the Beelink Mini S12 Pro lists an Intel N100 processor, Intel UHD graphics, one SO-DIMM slot, automatic power-on options and a stated working-temperature range of 0–40°C. These details make it a concrete model to check when considering an N100 configuration, but they do not demonstrate sustained OBS performance, measured wall-power draw or uninterrupted operation. Confirm specifications and support for the exact SKU with the manufacturer before buying. The manual mirror is available at the Mini S12 Pro manual.

The integration of dual 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet ports (powered by Realtek RTL8125 controller) makes this compact computer an exceptional hardware choice for tech enthusiasts. Easily configure it into software routers, hardware firewalls (pfSense, OpnSense), home NAS servers, or local homelabs.
When to consider stronger hardware
Do not assume that a low-power CPU tier will suit a more demanding production. Multiple sources, filters, high-motion 1080p60, higher resolutions and simultaneous local recording all make the real workload more demanding. Compare candidate systems using your complete scene rather than relying on processor labels alone. If your source is a camera, console or another external video device, a capture card may be needed; it is not a universal requirement, and no particular model is established here.

How to choose and validate a local streaming PC
- Write down the real target. Record the resolution, frame rate, codec and bitrate you plan to send, along with every source, filter, overlay, audio input and local recording requirement.
- Check the encoding option in OBS. Confirm that the intended hardware encoder appears in your installed OBS version and works with your operating system, graphics hardware and drivers. If it does not, resolve that compatibility issue before relying on the PC.
- Check the physical setup. Verify the exact model and configuration, provide adequate ventilation, and confirm whether its firmware offers an automatic power-on option after a power interruption. A setting does not by itself ensure that OBS or the stream resumes correctly.
- Test under representative conditions. Run the complete stream for an extended period with motion and audio similar to the real program. Watch OBS for dropped frames and YouTube for stream health, while checking system temperatures and restart behavior.
- Measure power and network capacity. Measure wall draw with a meter during the actual workload. Test upload bandwidth while other people or devices are using the connection as they normally would.
- Decide from the results. If encoding, temperature, network or recovery behavior is unreliable, lower the target or choose a stronger system or different workflow before depending on it continuously.
Keep the upload connection and recovery plan in view
A capable encoder can still fail to deliver a stable stream if the connection is inconsistent. YouTube recommends keeping 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the stream bitrate, notes that shared network use can reduce available bandwidth, and warns that disruptions can break a stream. Test under realistic network load; a wired connection may help avoid some wireless variability, but it cannot fix an underpowered or unstable internet connection. YouTube’s streaming tips cover bandwidth and stream-health monitoring.

For a local PC, decide how you will notice a dropped stream and what you will do after a power or network interruption. A firmware auto-power-on option can help start the machine after power returns, but you should verify the full restart sequence—including OBS and YouTube—in your own setup. Do not treat a successful short test as proof of continuous uptime.

A local encoder is the relevant path when the stream comes from a live camera, gameplay or screen feed, or a production that needs local hardware and control. If the goal is simply to loop uploaded prerecorded video, a cloud service is another approach: YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming. That listing does not establish current plan terms or suitability for a live camera or interactive production. YouTube describes encoder workflows, including gameplay, overlays and hardware such as cameras and microphones, in its encoder overview.

Or let it run in the cloud
For a prerecorded-video loop to YouTube, StreamNeo offers a cloud alternative: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams uploaded video at the quality you made it, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot. It can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and there is no home PC to keep running. Monthly access is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube and uploaded videos, not going live from a camera. What a local PC will cost to run
Compare the purchase cost and electricity use of a local computer with the current fees of any cloud service you consider. No model-specific wall-power measurement or electricity-cost figure is established for the Mini S12 Pro here, so an annual operating-cost estimate would be guesswork. Measure your own system’s draw during the intended stream and use your electricity rate to calculate its cost.
