There is no verified, universally best low-cost VPS for a 24/7 Indian music channel. For a prerecorded stream at YouTube’s recommended 720p30 H.264 video bitrate, the key cost is sustained outbound transfer: the video alone uses about 2.592 TB over 30 days, before audio and transport overhead. AWS lists a Mumbai Lightsail allowance of 1.5 TB on its $12/month bundle, so that plan does not cover this example. DigitalOcean documents a Bangalore region, but its current plan price and transfer quota need to be checked in its live catalog. If you want continuous YouTube playback without administering a server, StreamNeo is the cloud alternative to consider first.
Which option fits a 24/7 Indian music channel?
The right choice depends less on where a VPS is cheapest to rent than on how much data it can send every month, what outbound transfer costs beyond the allowance, and whether you want to maintain the streaming process yourself. The figures below are provider-published specifications and billing terms, not results from comparative uptime or performance tests.

| #1: StreamNeo | StreamNeo says it loops uploaded videos to YouTube from the cloud, supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. See StreamNeo. | Consider it first if the goal is an always-on prerecorded YouTube stream without server administration. It is a managed service, not a VPS, and its claims are vendor claims rather than an independent benchmark. |
| Amazon Lightsail, Mumbai | AWS lists a Linux/Unix bundle at $12/month with 2 GB RAM, 2 vCPUs, 60 GB SSD and 3 TB listed transfer. AWS says Mumbai plans include half the listed transfer allowance, making this bundle 1.5 TB there. AWS Lightsail pricing | Useful if you want AWS’s published bundle specifications and can manage a Linux server. The Mumbai allowance is below the illustrative 720p30 video-only usage before audio and overhead. |
| DigitalOcean Droplet, Bangalore (BLR1) | DigitalOcean identifies BLR1 as Bangalore. Droplet plans include outbound transfer; additional outbound transfer is billed at $0.01/GiB, with allowance pooled at team level. Its documentation points to the live catalog for plan prices and quotas. Regional availability; Droplet pricing and billing | Worth checking if a documented Bangalore region matters to your deployment. The reviewed documentation does not establish a specific current entry-plan price or quota, nor measured stream reliability or latency. |
| Gyre | YouTube’s encoder directory describes Gyre as a cloud tool for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded video. YouTube says listed encoder products are not made by YouTube. YouTube encoder directory | A managed-service option to investigate if you do not want to operate a VPS. The directory is not an endorsement or reliability review. |
Practical recommendation: if you specifically want a VPS, compare the live DigitalOcean Bangalore plan catalog against your measured monthly transfer requirement and overage exposure. Lightsail is easier to evaluate from its published bundle figures, but the cited Mumbai bundle does not cover the example below. If avoiding server setup and upkeep matters more than owning the server environment, compare managed streaming instead.

Estimate monthly transfer before choosing a VPS
YouTube recommends 8 Mbps H.264 video bitrate for 720p30. At a constant 8 Mbps, video payload over a 30-day month is approximately 2.592 TB in decimal units: 8 megabits per second multiplied by 2,592,000 seconds, divided by 8 bits per byte. This is a calculation from YouTube’s bitrate recommendation, not a YouTube-published monthly-use statistic. It excludes audio and transport overhead, so actual transfer will be higher. Use your actual encoded bitrate rather than resolution alone. A lower bitrate reduces transfer, while a higher one increases it. Add audio and some headroom before comparing the result with a provider’s quota. Also check how the provider counts traffic: AWS says inbound and outbound data count toward the Lightsail allowance, but only outbound traffic beyond the allowance is charged; DigitalOcean describes included and billable outbound transfer.
What the AWS Mumbai figures mean
AWS lists 3 TB transfer on its $12/month Linux/Unix bundle, but says Mumbai and certain other regions receive half the listed allowance. That makes the published allowance for this bundle 1.5 TB in Mumbai. Since the 8 Mbps example uses about 2.592 TB of video payload alone, it exceeds that allowance before audio or overhead. AWS also lists a $5 tier with a 1 TB base allowance before the Mumbai reduction; do not assume the lower-price tier can carry this workload without substantial bitrate reduction or additional outbound charges. Verify current pricing and regional terms on AWS’s pricing page.
What to verify for DigitalOcean
BLR1 is documented as Bangalore, but location availability does not establish a measured latency advantage or guarantee a healthier stream. DigitalOcean says Droplet plans include outbound transfer and bills additional outbound data at $0.01/GiB; transfer allowances are pooled cumulatively at team level. Because the documentation sends readers to the live catalog for plan-specific price and quota, check the exact Droplet, included transfer, billing terms and current catalog before estimating total cost. Do not rely on older comparison prices as current. DigitalOcean regional availability; DigitalOcean pricing and billing
Why a prerecorded loop changes the VPS workload
If the video is already encoded and the server only sends that file to YouTube, the job differs from capturing a live camera feed and encoding it in real time. That distinction can make high CPU capacity less central than adequate transfer, storage for the media, and a stable, monitored sending process. It does not prove that any particular small VPS can sustain a stream: the available provider information here does not include a benchmark of continuous streaming performance.
Before committing to a plan, confirm that the server has enough disk space for the source files, that your chosen upload workflow can send the intended stream format, and that you can inspect and restart the process if it stops. Protect the YouTube stream key as a credential: anyone who obtains it may be able to send to that stream. A VPS also means you are responsible for server configuration, monitoring, updates and recovery unless your chosen service terms say otherwise.
Check YouTube eligibility and music rights first
Confirm that the channel can livestream
YouTube says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days to livestream. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable the feature before a planned launch. See Getting started with live streaming and Create a stream with an encoder.
Clear every track for the intended use
YouTube makes the streamer responsible for the necessary rights, including music licensing rights. Its livestream terms say the content provider represents and warrants that it has all necessary rights to exploit the live content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. Check the terms and your own licenses for the catalog and territories involved: YouTube livestream terms.

Match the encoder output to YouTube’s guidance
- For H.264 at 720p30, YouTube recommends an 8 Mbps video bitrate. Choose an output you can sustain and calculate transfer using the actual bitrate.
- YouTube’s encoder guidance lists RTMP or RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and AAC or MP3 audio. It recommends RTMPS as the encrypted ingestion protocol.
- Test the settings and monitor YouTube’s stream health rather than assuming a server plan or regional location guarantees a healthy feed. The published guidance is at YouTube’s encoder settings page.
For a self-managed VPS
- Activate and configure YouTube Live: verify the channel, confirm there are no live-streaming restrictions, allow for first-time activation time, then create or schedule a stream in YouTube Studio and obtain its stream key.
- Select the VPS using transfer math: identify the region and plan quota, compare the allowance with video plus audio and overhead, and account for the provider’s overage rules. Check disk space for the files and decide how you will monitor the sending process.
- Prepare a compliant media loop: use a prerecorded file or playlist you have rights to stream, and configure the sender to deliver the chosen video and audio settings to YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS ingest using the correct stream key. Do not expose the key in public scripts, logs or shared screenshots.
- Start privately or unlisted and inspect the result: check YouTube’s stream health and audio/video output before making the broadcast public. Monitor both the YouTube live control room and the VPS process during initial operation.
- Plan for interruption: decide how you will detect a stopped sender, restart it, and verify that YouTube has resumed ingest. A server that is powered on is not by itself proof that the livestream is reaching YouTube.
These are operating steps, not a guarantee that a given VPS can sustain a feed. Provider specifications here do not establish a tested machine size, restart configuration or uptime level for this workload.

Estimate the real cost and effort
A VPS bill is not just its advertised monthly rental. Include any outbound transfer overage, storage beyond what the plan provides, and the time needed to configure, monitor and recover the server. AWS publishes a fixed bundle price and transfer allowance, while DigitalOcean’s plan-specific price and quota need to be checked in its catalog; neither published fact alone establishes the total cost for your bitrate.
A managed service substitutes a service charge for much of that server work, but it is a separate product with its own terms and storage limits. StreamNeo offers different billing lengths with the same product on every plan: Daily $0.99 per day · Weekly $2.99 per week · Monthly $9.99 per month · 6 months $49.99 for 6 months · Yearly $89.99 a year. Five or more slots can be discussed with support. Check current provider and service terms before paying; prices, quotas and availability can change.
Decision
For a self-managed setup, DigitalOcean is the documented Bangalore-location candidate, but its current plan economics must be verified in the live catalog. Lightsail has clearer published bundle numbers, yet the cited Mumbai allowance falls short of a 720p30, 8 Mbps video payload over a 30-day month. If your priority is keeping prerecorded YouTube music online without operating a VPS, StreamNeo is the first alternative to try: it runs from the cloud, accepts uploads up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and offers the first day free.
