There is no evidence-backed single winner among low-code test automation tools. The right fit depends on what you test, how much control your team needs over test logic, and how the tool behaves when your application changes. A useful shortlist to evaluate is Katalon, Tricentis Tosca, Tricentis Testim, and mabl. Their vendors describe different strengths, but the available product materials do not provide a neutral head-to-head performance comparison.

What a low-code test automation tool does

Low-code and no-code testing tools reduce or conceal some of the scripting normally required to create automated tests. Depending on the product, a team might record interactions, assemble steps with point-and-click controls, reuse keywords, or describe a test in natural language. The aim is to let people with different levels of coding experience contribute without necessarily giving up all access to code.

“Low-code” does not mean “no technical work.” Teams may still need to design test data, diagnose failures, review changes, maintain environments, and write custom logic for unusual cases. For example, Katalon documents switching between manual and script editors, while mabl describes JavaScript and Appium extensions alongside its visual and natural-language workflows. These are vendor-described capabilities, not independent findings about how well a particular team will use them.

Best tools to evaluate by team and application

Tool Vendor-described focus Best fit to investigate Questions for a trial or demo
Katalon Studio / True Platform Web, API, mobile, and desktop coverage; recorder and spy; manual and script editing; reusable keywords; cloud execution; and a broader management and analytics platform. Teams looking to evaluate one platform across several application types and a mix of manual-style and scripted authoring. Can a representative project cover your real application mix? How do recorded tests respond to actual interface changes? Which capabilities and execution limits apply to the plan you would use?
Tricentis Tosca Codeless enterprise testing, model-oriented automation, risk-based prioritization, cloud parallel execution, and API, mobile, and accessibility features. Organizations considering model-oriented, codeless automation across an enterprise technology stack. Does its supported technology coverage match your stack? What modeling and administration work would be required? How would licensing fit your intended use?
Tricentis Testim Low-code authoring and AI locator features for Salesforce, web, and mobile; local, grid, scheduled, or CI execution. Teams evaluating Salesforce or web workflows, including different ways to run tests. How are false positives handled when locators adapt? Which execution grid and CI integrations are available for your setup?
mabl Point-and-click and natural-language authoring for web and mobile, full-code extensions, and self-healing workflows. Teams that want to assess visual or natural-language test creation while retaining code extensions. How does the authoring approach fit your team? What approval and review process applies when a test is automatically recovered?

This is a shortlist organized by stated product focus, not a ranking of independently measured performance. The descriptions above reflect vendor materials; the questions are intended to help you validate fit with your own flows.

How to choose the right low-code testing tool

Compare tools against the work your team actually needs to automate, rather than treating “low-code” as a sufficient selection criterion. Katalon’s vendor-authored comparison guide identifies factors including ease of use, integrations, scalability, platform coverage, automation capabilities, reporting, collaboration, and support. Apply those criteria to your own constraints:

  • Application coverage: List the web, API, mobile, desktop, Salesforce, and other systems your tests must cover. Confirm specific support for your technologies rather than inferring it from a broad platform label.
  • Authoring and code escape hatches: Decide whether the people creating tests need recording, visual steps, reusable keywords, natural-language authoring, a script editor, or custom-code extensions.
  • Maintenance and recovery: Ask what happens after a UI or workflow change: how failures are reported, whether automatic recovery is proposed or applied, and how a person can inspect and audit it.
  • Execution: Validate the browser, device, local, cloud, parallel, scheduled, and CI execution options your project requires. Confirm any relevant limits for the plan under consideration.
  • Integrations and collaboration: Check the actual connections and workflows your team needs for CI/CD, test management, review, reporting, and support.
  • Operational constraints: Establish whether deployment options, data handling, access controls, administration, or support arrangements meet your organization’s requirements.
  • Total cost: Request current plan details for your intended team and execution volume. Comparable current prices, plan limits, and total cost of ownership are not established here, so there is no supported price or ROI ranking.

How to evaluate self-healing and AI claims

Vendors describe self-healing, AI locator, or other adaptive features, but those descriptions do not establish a neutral accuracy rate or prove that maintenance will fall for your application. A test that continues running after a change is not automatically a correct test; recovery can hide a meaningful behavior change if the result is not reviewed.

In a demo or trial, use representative workflows that include both ordinary changes and changes that should make a test fail. Ask the vendor to show what is detected, what is changed or recovered, how the outcome is surfaced to reviewers, and what audit information remains. Compare the diagnosis and review process as well as whether the run finishes.

A practical trial plan

  1. Choose representative flows. Bring a small set of real user journeys, including at least one important regression path and one workflow likely to change.
  2. Build with the intended authors. Have the people who would maintain the tests try the product’s primary authoring approach, then identify where custom code or administrator help is needed.
  3. Exercise a change. Modify a relevant interface or workflow and observe whether the test fails clearly, can be repaired, or is automatically recovered. Review the change before accepting it.
  4. Run through your delivery path. Validate the required browser or device coverage, execution model, CI integration, and reporting using your expected workflow.
  5. Record the operating burden. Note setup, review, maintenance, diagnosis, administration, and plan constraints. Compare those observations across tools instead of relying on a vendor’s general productivity claim.
  6. Confirm commercial terms directly. Get current pricing, licensing, support, and execution limits for your team’s intended use from the vendor.

What the available claims do—and do not—show

Tricentis’s Tosca feature page says the product can “boost automation rates to 90%+.” That is a vendor product-page claim; the material available here does not state a measurement method or publication year, so it should not be treated as an independently verified result or an industry benchmark.

Katalon’s partner page also presents customer-reported outcomes, including scenarios automated per product release and reported time or coverage changes. Those are vendor-published customer claims, not comparable tests of the shortlisted products. Neither they nor the Tosca claim establish which tool will perform best for another organization.

Katalon’s 2026 comparison article names additional products including TestComplete, TestSigma, BugBug, Leapwork, Rainforest QA, AccelQ, and Functionize. Those names can be starting points for further evaluation, but the information summarized here does not verify their current capabilities well enough to compare them alongside the four-tool shortlist.

For screenshot capture rather than test automation

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server, not a low-code test automation platform. If the specific need is capturing clean website images or PDFs rather than authoring and running tests, it is an alternative to try first: it removes supported cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture, and only clean shots are billed. See ScreenshotNeo for product information.

Or skip the browser setup

A single GET request can return a screenshot. This cURL example saves a WebP image; replace the example URL with the page you want to capture and supply your API key. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request options.
