There is no universal winner. Choose StreamYard if the live show itself—studio controls, branding and multistreaming—is the priority. Choose Riverside if capturing separate participant tracks and polishing the recording after the broadcast matter just as much. Both vendors describe features that may depend on plan, so verify the current limits, destinations and pricing before you commit.
How to choose live podcast software
Start with what happens before, during and after your show. A platform can make it easy to bring guests on air yet still be a poor fit if it cannot reach your required destinations or give you recordings suited to editing. Decide which of these needs is essential:
- On-air production: branded layouts, media, producer controls and an easy way to manage the show.
- Distribution: every platform you need to reach, plus any simultaneous-streaming or destination limits on the plan you would buy.
- Recording: whether you need separate tracks for participants, and what quality and export options are available.
- Audience interaction: guest joining, call-ins, and whether the host can see comments or chats in one place.
- Post-production: whether built-in editing, clips, transcripts or publishing are useful, or whether you prefer separate tools.
- Operating fit and cost: check current browser or operating-system support, plan limits and pricing on the vendor’s own pages. Current like-for-like plan pricing is not established here.
A live stream and the saved master have different jobs. The broadcast needs to work for the audience in real time; the recording may need separate tracks or greater capture quality for later edits. Make the distinction before comparing feature lists.
Riverside vs. StreamYard
The table summarizes vendor descriptions, not independent performance tests. StreamYard’s comparison is written by StreamYard, so its characterization of the two products should be read as the vendor’s perspective. Confirm availability and plan-specific limits directly with each provider.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

When Riverside is the better fit
Consider Riverside when post-show production is a central part of the workflow. Its official pages describe local separate tracks, up to 4K video, uncompressed audio, editing and repurposing tools alongside live broadcasting. That combination may suit a show that wants to broadcast and then work with participant recordings, rather than treating the stream as the finished product. These are Riverside’s claims, not independent measurements; verify which capabilities are included in your plan.
Riverside also describes inviting guests and producers, taking audience call-ins, managing audience chat, and using overlays, branding, media assets and a teleprompter. If those are important to your format, test the actual guest and producer workflow before choosing it. Riverside’s own description is: “Broadcast your podcast live, while recording, to connect with more listeners in real-time.”

When StreamYard is the better fit
Consider StreamYard when the live production is the main event: show control, branding and sending the broadcast to multiple destinations. StreamYard’s own comparison calls its approach live-first and describes local participant recordings as well. Because that is vendor-authored positioning, do not treat it as an independent ranking or assume every feature is available on every plan. Check the destinations, recording details and caps for your intended use.
What about OBS Studio?
OBS Studio is a customizable desktop live-production option, but the available product information does not establish enough podcast-specific detail for a fair comparison with these browser-based studio workflows. If you are considering it, review the official project site at obsproject.com and verify its current setup requirements and the production workflow you need. It is not ranked here against Riverside or StreamYard.

Run a practical test before committing
- List your destinations. Write down exactly where the show must appear. Confirm simultaneous streaming support and destination caps for the specific plan, rather than relying on a general feature description.
- Invite a guest as they would join for a real episode. Check the joining steps, audio and video experience, and whether the host or producer can manage the guest without disrupting the show.
- Test the audience interaction you actually need. If you use call-ins or comments, check how they reach the host and who can manage them.
- Make a private or otherwise low-stakes test broadcast. Check the on-air layout, branding, media and destination behavior before scheduling a public show.
- Inspect the saved recording. Confirm what files and participant tracks you can access, whether the quality suits your edit, and how you export them. Do not assume the live stream and the saved recording are identical.
- Check the whole post-show workflow. Try the editing or repurposing tools you expect to use, or confirm that your separate editor and publishing process works with the export.
- Review current plan terms. Verify the needed features, destination limits, recording limits, browser or operating-system support, and price on the provider’s current pages before paying.
Copyright and the recording after the show
Live distribution does not itself grant permission to use music, video clips, images or other material in a broadcast or its saved recording. Make sure you have the rights or permissions needed for the content and destinations you choose. Also consider how the recorded version will be edited and distributed: a clip that was cleared for one use may not be cleared for every later use. The software descriptions cited here do not establish a platform’s copyright policy or guarantee that a particular use is permitted.
