The closest LEGO alternatives to the original PlayStation set are the Atari 2600 (10306), Nintendo Entertainment System (71374), SEGA Genesis Console (40926), and Game Boy (72046). They each turn a familiar gaming device into a display build, but suit different kinds of nostalgia. For arcade fans, the PAC-MAN Arcade (10323) is another close match, though it recreates a cabinet rather than a home console.

What are the LEGO PlayStation set alternatives?

The right alternative depends on the device you remember and the kind of display you want. Atari and NES are full home-console recreations; the SEGA Genesis is a smaller console model; Game Boy is a handheld; and PAC-MAN is an upright arcade cabinet. None of these builds should be treated as a working video game system.

Which LEGO set looks most like a classic gaming console?

Atari 2600: cartridge-era nostalgia

The Atari 2600 is a strong choice if your memories center on woodgrain styling, cartridges, and an old-school joystick. LEGO’s model measures over 8 cm high, 33 cm wide, and 22 cm deep. It includes cartridges for Asteroids, Adventure, and Centipede, three small scenes inspired by games, and a hidden 1980s room vignette. It offers more than a bare console replica, but needs a broad shelf or tabletop footprint.

Nintendo Entertainment System: the console-and-TV display

The NES set is the most complete living-room setup in this group: it includes the console, controller, Game Pak, and a brick-built retro television. A handle moves the screen to show a scrolling 8-bit Mario scene. LEGO lists 2,646 pieces and notes that the interactive LEGO Mario figure is not included; that figure is needed to activate the TV’s interactive features. LEGO’s US page marked the set retired and hard to find when checked, so do not assume it is available new at its original retail price.

SEGA Genesis or Mega Drive: a compact console build

The SEGA Genesis Console is the compact option. The 479-piece model can be customized as either a SEGA Genesis or SEGA Mega Drive and includes two detachable controllers, a removable game card, stickers, and a Sonic the Hedgehog portrait Easter egg. LEGO gives the console dimensions as over 4 cm high, 16 cm wide, and 12 cm deep. Its US page listed it at $39.99 and “Available now” on October 4, 2026; that is a checked listing, not a guarantee of future stock or price.

Which alternative suits handheld or arcade nostalgia?

Game Boy: a smaller handheld-shaped display

The Game Boy is a 421-piece, near 1:1 scale replica of Nintendo’s original handheld. It has detailed buttons, a display stand, interchangeable Game Pak models, and lenticular screen pieces showing The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, Super Mario Land, or a Nintendo start screen. Its handheld form makes it a natural fit for a smaller display area than the NES console-and-TV build.

PAC-MAN Arcade: a mechanical cabinet rather than a console

The PAC-MAN Arcade has 2,651 pieces and recreates an upright arcade cabinet with a four-way joystick, illuminated coin slot, adjustable score display, and a handle-operated mechanical maze that simulates the chase. It also includes a removable arcade scene and character display. LEGO explicitly describes it as a non-functional gaming system, and its US listing showed sold out on October 4, 2026.

Are LEGO’s retro gaming sets playable?

No: these are display models, not consoles that run original games. The PlayStation’s Open and Power buttons operate model mechanisms, and its controller plugs into the front, but the set is not a working PlayStation. Atari scenes, the NES television, the PAC-MAN maze, and Game Boy screens are display or mechanical features rather than electronic gameplay. LEGO specifically says the Game Boy has no light, sound, or digital play functions, and calls the PAC-MAN cabinet non-functional.

How does the LEGO PlayStation compare with these alternatives?

The original PlayStation set is the closest choice if the specific object you want is the first gray PlayStation and controller. LEGO describes its 1,911-piece model as near 1:1 scale; it measures over 6 cm high, 26 cm wide, and 19 cm deep. Its Open and Power buttons work as model mechanisms, and opening the console reveals removable dioramas inspired by Gran Turismo, released in 1997, and Ape Escape, released in 1999. The controller plugs into the console’s front.

For other priorities, the choice is more straightforward: choose Atari for cartridge-era details, NES for a console-and-TV scene, Genesis for a compact model with two controller builds, Game Boy for a handheld-shaped display, or PAC-MAN for an arcade cabinet. These recommendations are based on the sets’ listed features, not hands-on testing.
