The clearest current official options are the Square Enix-published Steam edition for PC and Square Enix’s Google Play edition for Android. Square Enix also lists iOS as a supported platform, but check your country’s Apple App Store before counting on a purchase there. Store availability and prices vary by region and can change.

Choose Steam for a PC
The Steam listing describes updated controls, higher-resolution graphics, updated music, autosave, and the Dimensional Vortex and Lost Sanctum bonus dungeons. It lists both keyboard and gamepad controls, so buying a controller is optional. Check the listing for the current regional price and availability rather than relying on a price or discount seen elsewhere.

Choose Google Play for Android
The Google Play listing names the Square Enix release “CHRONO TRIGGER (Upgrade Ver.)” and describes updated controls, graphics, sound, and the two bonus dungeons. Confirm that the listing is available for both your country and device before purchase.

Check the App Store before choosing iOS
Square Enix’s North American support center categorizes the game under iOS, Android, and Steam support. That is evidence of platform support, not a guarantee that an Apple App Store listing is live or purchasable in every country. Search the App Store in your region and confirm the publisher and purchase option before planning around iPhone or iPad play.
Be cautious about older console copies
The sources checked do not establish a current official Switch, PlayStation, or Xbox storefront edition. An older copy may require specific hardware or have territory-specific availability; verify the exact edition and compatibility with the relevant official store or hardware information before paying.
What differs between platforms?
Square Enix support says game content does not differ by platform, while graphics or optional settings may vary with hardware. This is a general support statement, not a detailed comparison of every historical port. The Steam listing specifically advertises autosave, updated presentation, and the two bonus dungeons; Google Play likewise describes updated presentation and those dungeons. If a feature matters to you, confirm it on the specific storefront page for the version you intend to buy.
How to choose and buy safely
- Start with your device. For a PC, look at Steam; for Android, check Google Play; for iPhone or iPad, verify the regional Apple App Store listing directly.
- Match the controls to how you play. Steam lists keyboard and gamepad support. On mobile, review the store listing and screenshots for the current control details; do not assume a controller is required.
- Check the live regional listing. Confirm the publisher, product name, compatibility, price, and purchase availability in the store you will use. Prices, discounts, and availability can change by date and country.
- Keep the receipt and use the store’s account. Buying through the official platform storefront ties the purchase to that account and gives you the applicable storefront support and purchase records.
Are unofficial downloads a legal alternative?
Do not treat ROM downloads, unofficial ports, or copied emulation files as authorized ways to purchase the game. The supported purchase routes established here are official storefront listings. If you already own an older edition, check the terms and law that apply where you live before making or using copies; ownership of a game does not, by itself, establish permission to download someone else’s copy.

Can you monetize Chrono Trigger videos?
Square Enix’s materials guidelines, last updated April 10, 2025, allow certain non-commercial sharing of game videos and images and permit advertising monetization through platform-operated programs such as YouTube and Twitch. The policy says other commercial use of covered materials is not permitted; this is not blanket permission to sell merchandise or use official screenshots, footage, logos, or music in other commercial ways. Check the current Chrono Trigger materials usage guidelines and follow any required notices before publishing content.
