There is not enough publicly accessible comparative test evidence here to name a defensible 2026 winner for built-in induction hobs. Which? says its current model recommendations are available only to logged-in members, and a manufacturer catalogue listing is not an independent test. You can still make a strong shortlist by comparing test performance, simmer control, pan compatibility and exact installation dimensions before you buy.
How to choose a built-in induction hob
Start with the way you cook and the space available, then compare the specific models that fit. A fast water-boiling result is useful, but it does not tell you whether a hob can hold a gentle simmer, clean easily or fit your existing worktop cut-out.
- Heating performance: Compare the time taken to heat water and the energy used for that task.
- Low-temperature control: Check whether the hob can hold food at a gentle simmer without sticking or burning.
- Cleaning: Look for evidence on how easily the glass and control area clean after spills.
- Zones: Compare the number, diameter and layout of zones, plus any flexible or bridging function.
- Usability: Consider how clearly you can select a zone and adjust its power.
- Fit and connection: Check the exact appliance dimensions, cut-out requirements and electrical requirements in the model’s current installation information.
- Price and warranty: Verify both with the retailer or manufacturer before ordering; broad guide prices are not live quotes.
Which? describes a test that times a pan of water heating from room temperature to 90°C and records energy use. Its lab also assesses cleaning after oil splatters dry overnight and whether a hob can keep baked beans just warm without sticking. These measures cover speed, efficiency, cleaning and gentle heat—not installation fit or the usability of every control layout. Which? explains its induction-hob testing and advice.
Why simmer control and cookware matter
Induction works by passing alternating current through coils beneath the glass, creating a changing magnetic field that induces current in compatible cookware. The pan heats its contents; heat from the pan then warms the glass. Removing the pan stops induction heating. This is why the pan itself—not just the hob’s stated power—affects cooking performance. Which? describes how induction works.

Which? notes that higher-scoring hobs are easier to control and adjust, while weaker models can make food stick to the pan. If you often melt, warm or simmer foods gently, treat stable low-power operation as a key buying criterion alongside fast heating.
Check your pans before shopping
Hold a fridge magnet against the base of each pan. A firm attraction is a useful indication that it may work on induction, but check the cookware maker’s induction-compatibility information too. Cast iron and suitable stainless steel can work; a heavy cast-iron pan should be handled carefully because dropping or dragging it can damage the glass. Which? covers pan compatibility and induction cookware.

Pan base size matters: Which? advises that it should be about the same size as the cooking zone for that zone to activate. Compare the hob’s stated zone diameters with your everyday pans, and check whether flexible or bridging zones are available if you regularly use larger or differently shaped cookware.
If a favourite pan does not work
You can replace it with a clearly labelled induction-compatible pan, or use a pan diffuser/converter disc. A diffuser transfers heat from the hob to an otherwise incompatible pan; the pan itself is not being heated directly by induction, so do not assume it will perform like a compatible pan. Which? reports diffuser prices starting at around £14; that is an indicative page-reported figure, not a live offer. Which? discusses diffuser discs. Check dimensions and specifications against your kitchen
Do not order on the basis of a “60 cm” label alone. Confirm the appliance dimensions and the required worktop cut-out in the installation information for the exact model, then verify its electrical requirements with the manufacturer or a qualified installer. Catalogue dimensions describe the appliance itself, not necessarily the cut-out you need.
For example, Bosch’s 2026 catalogue lists the Series 2 10PUC61KAA5E as a 60 cm built-in induction hob measuring 51 × 592 × 522 mm. The catalogue lists TouchSelect Basic, QuickStart, Quick Switch-Off and PowerBoost on the rear-left zone. These are manufacturer specifications; the catalogue does not establish independent test performance, current retailer stock or that this model is a top pick. Bosch’s 2026 cooking catalogue.

These are historical averages for that test sample, not measurements of current 2026 models. Which?’s June 2026 general hob guide.

Can you name a best induction hob for 2026?
Not on the public evidence cited here. Which?’s guide, published 22 July 2026, says its recommended models are visible only to logged-in members, so their identities and relative scores cannot be checked from the public page. Bosch’s catalogue provides a current product example, but not a comparative test. Naming a winner from those materials would overstate what is established.
Which? scientist Ruby Gordon says the organisation’s testing assesses energy efficiency as part of deciding whether a hob is a Best Buy: “Our in-depth testing forms the backbone of our hobs advice. From our testing, we know that an induction hob uses energy far more efficiently than a gas, electric ceramic or solid-plate hob. That’s why an induction hob’s energy efficiency plays a key role in determining whether we deem it a Which? Best Buy.” The statement appears in Which?’s 2026 induction-hob guide.
When a portable induction hob makes more sense
A portable countertop hob is a separate option for temporary or supplementary cooking, such as during a kitchen renovation; it is not a built-in replacement or a built-in winner. Woman & Home’s May 2026 portable-hob guide names the VonShef Twin Digital as its overall portable pick. That recommendation applies to the portable category, not built-in induction hobs.
