There is no verified single “best” Indian VPS for running a 24/7 YouTube radio station. Contabo is a comparison candidate because it documents VPS options in India, but that does not establish YouTube-specific performance or prove that continuous outbound streaming is permitted on a particular plan. Before you pay, confirm the India region, sustained-egress rules, resources, recovery options, support, and renewal cost. What to choose: a VPS you manage or a managed streaming service?
A VPS gives you a virtual server on which you install and maintain the software that sends a playlist or audio stream to YouTube. That can suit a broadcaster who wants server access and is comfortable managing a persistent process. A managed service handles the continuous playback and recovery workflow for you, but you should verify its plan limits and terms.

Contabo documents VPS options in India and is a reasonable candidate to compare, not a proven winner for this workload. Its documentation describes KVM virtual machines with shared vCPU cores and fixed RAM; plan families vary in processor generation, storage, and port speed. Its traffic policy includes fair use and reserves throttling for exceptionally high or disruptive use. Those details do not prove that a 24/7 YouTube stream is allowed or predict how it will perform.

- Confirm the actual location. Check that the plan you can order is hosted in India, and ask which city or facility serves it. A company having an India location does not mean every plan or stock configuration is available there.
- Get a clear answer on continuous outbound traffic. Ask support whether a sustained RTMP/RTMPS stream to YouTube is allowed, what outbound traffic allowance applies, how fair use is enforced, and whether throttling or extra charges can apply. Save the answer and read the acceptable-use policy before committing.
- Match the resources to the workload. A server that loops an already-produced video is not doing the same work as one that transcodes or generates video live. Check CPU allocation and whether cores are shared, RAM, storage, and the operating system/software you intend to run. Do not assume CPU or RAM figures alone guarantee a particular video quality.
- Check network and recovery details. Confirm the advertised port speed, included traffic, firewall controls, and whether you can configure automatic restart after a process or server reboot. Ask what happens during host maintenance or an outage; a VPS is not automatically a redundant streaming system.
- Compare the total cost. Check the billing term, taxes and checkout adjustments, renewal price, storage or traffic add-ons, backup charges, and support level. Contabo’s displayed India prices are dynamic and can depend on term, VAT, and checkout settings, so verify the price for your location at checkout rather than relying on a cached figure.
- Run a trial stream you can observe. Validate playback, process restart, server reboot recovery, and actual traffic use using your own stream configuration before depending on it for an important schedule.
Estimate bandwidth for a continuous stream
Traffic depends primarily on the stream’s outgoing bitrate and how long it runs. For a rough planning estimate, convert bitrate to megabits per second and multiply by time; divide by eight to estimate megabytes per second, then scale to hours or a month. For example, at a steady 2 Mbps, the stream sends about 0.9 GB per hour before protocol overhead, or roughly 648 GB over 30 days. This is arithmetic for that assumed bitrate and duration, not a provider allowance or a guarantee of observed usage. Leave headroom for overhead and any additional traffic, and compare the estimate with the VPS’s included outbound traffic and policy.
The National Informatics Centre’s published requirement for its own government webcast workflow specifies 2–4 Mbps per stream. That requirement applies to the NIC’s described service, not as YouTube’s universal minimum and not as a sizing rule for every radio playlist.
Set up the VPS-to-YouTube workflow
YouTube supports encoder-based live streaming, but this article does not prescribe one particular encoder or its bitrate settings. The exact controls depend on the software, media, and stream format you choose. Use the current YouTube Live Control Room instructions and your encoder’s documentation for format-specific values.
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube Help says the channel must be verified and must not have live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Confirm live access in the channel before building the server workflow.
- Choose the playback method. Decide whether the VPS will loop a finished video/playlist or send a live-produced audio/video feed. Ensure your operating system and chosen software are supported on the VPS plan.
- Configure YouTube’s stream destination and key. Create or select the live stream in YouTube Live Control Room and enter the destination details in your encoder or playlist workflow. Treat the stream key as a password: do not publish it in scripts, logs, screenshots, or support posts.
- Allow the outbound connection. Configure the server firewall and any provider controls to permit the stream software’s required outbound connection. Do not assume an advertised port speed means a given destination or streaming protocol is allowed.
- Make playback persistent. Configure the selected process to start after reboot and restart after a crash, using a service manager or equivalent mechanism supported by your operating system. Verify this by deliberately restarting the process and rebooting the VPS while monitoring the YouTube stream.
- Monitor operation. Track process state, reconnects, server restarts, storage, and outbound traffic. Set alerts or checks appropriate to your own setup; a successful initial start does not establish uninterrupted future operation.
- Test before scheduling viewers. Watch the YouTube output, confirm audio/video continuity and the intended loop, and test recovery after a dropped connection. Recheck after software, playlist, or server changes.
Copyright and YouTube channel risks
A playlist is not cleared for rebroadcast just because you bought, downloaded, or can personally play the tracks. YouTube’s livestream terms state: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” Make sure you have the rights needed for every track and for the intended public livestream, including any applicable music licensing rights. Review YouTube’s current policies and your territory’s licensing rules before going live.

Common problems and what to check
- YouTube will not accept the live stream: check channel verification and live-stream restrictions, then confirm the selected stream destination and key in the encoder.
- The stream starts but disconnects repeatedly: inspect the VPS process logs and network/firewall settings, then ask the provider about sustained egress policy, throttling, and any traffic limit. Test recovery rather than assuming the server will reconnect by itself.
- The process does not resume after a reboot: verify that its startup service is enabled, that media paths and credentials are available at boot, and that the process can reconnect to YouTube. Reboot-test after changing the service configuration.
- Traffic usage is higher than expected: compare measured bitrate and runtime with the estimate above, allow for overhead, and check for duplicate processes or additional uploads/downloads. Confirm the plan’s included egress and fair-use rules.
- The audio is muted, claimed, or interrupted: investigate rights and platform notices for the specific track or stream. Replace content only with material you are authorized to broadcast; server location does not change music rights.
- Playback quality is inconsistent: distinguish a source/encoder issue from network or YouTube ingest behavior. Check the outgoing stream configuration and observe a test session; VPS CPU/RAM specifications alone do not identify the cause.
