If you liked Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, the best alternative depends on what you want to keep: character-driven kart racing, a particular console, local party play, deeper driving, or vehicle tuning. Start with Mario Kart World if you want to explore another current Nintendo kart racer, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for an established entry in that series, Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled for another character-based racer, or Disney Speedstorm if Disney characters are the draw. Treat these as a shortlist, not a definitive ranking; check each game’s current platform, multiplayer options, purchase model, and ongoing content before buying.
What makes Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds distinctive?
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds launched on September 25, 2025. SEGA listed its Steam and Epic Games Store releases for September 26. Its announced platforms are PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store; check the store listing for the exact edition available on your system. SEGA’s release announcement and Nintendo’s product page provide the platform and product details.
The signature feature is the Travel Ring. After the opening lap, racers pass through a ring into a CrossWorld for the second lap, then return to the original course for the final lap. SEGA says these transitions change the course and can bring new gates, Frenzy events, shortcuts, obstacles, rings, and items. Nintendo lists 24 tracks and 15 CrossWorlds. That between-lap course change is a useful point of comparison: other kart racers may offer varied circuits, but do not assume they use the same format.
CrossWorlds also combines vehicle and ability tuning. Nintendo lists 45 vehicles and 70 gadgets; SEGA describes more than 70,000 possible machine combinations. SEGA says cross-platform online races support up to 12 players. Nintendo lists local split-screen, Race Park, World Match for up to 12 online players, and Time Trials. Those details make customization and multiplayer setup as important to compare as the tracks themselves. SEGA · Nintendo

Which game like CrossWorlds should you consider?
The options below are organized by what might appeal to you, not by a verified quality ranking. Current platform support, pricing, online service status, monetization, and detailed comparative strengths are not established here. Check the relevant platform’s store and the game’s current official information before purchasing.
| If your priority is… | Consider | What to verify before buying |
|---|---|---|
| Another current Nintendo kart racer | Mario Kart World | Supported system and edition, multiplayer options, offline modes, and purchase and content model. |
| An established entry in the Mario Kart series | Mario Kart 8 Deluxe | Supported system and edition, local and online play, offline options, and any additional content or costs. |
| Another character-based kart racer | Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled | Supported system, available multiplayer formats, offline play, driving demands, and purchase model. |
| Disney characters | Disney Speedstorm | Supported system, current progression and monetization model, multiplayer setup, and total cost of optional content. |
This is a starting shortlist, not a claim that one game is faster, cheaper, more active online, or more generous with content than another. Those judgments depend on current, platform-specific facts and player priorities.

How to choose the right kart racer
Confirm platform and edition first
Check the exact console or PC storefront you plan to use, rather than relying on a series name or an old platform list. A game’s availability, edition, and included content can differ by system and may change over time.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsMatch the multiplayer format to your group
Decide whether you need couch split-screen, online races, a specific player count, or solo modes such as time trials. Look for those modes on the platform and edition you intend to buy; a general claim that a game has multiplayer does not tell you whether it suits your setup.

- MULTIPLE WAYS TO PLAY: Gather with friends and play local split-screen in Grand Prix and the new party mode Race Park, compete against a community of players from around the world with up to 12 players online in World Match, or test your driving skills in Time Trials.
Choose between party accessibility and driving depth
If you enjoy CrossWorlds’ gadgets and vehicle combinations, look for current evidence about a candidate’s tuning options and how much those options affect driving. If you mainly want an easy game to pick up with friends, prioritize the handling and local-play experience. Do not assume that a character-based racer has the same driving demands as CrossWorlds.
Compare course variety and replay options
CrossWorlds makes its course itself change during a race through Travel Rings. For another game, check how its tracks vary, whether it has alternate routes or other forms of course change, and whether modes such as time trials give you a reason to return after multiplayer sessions. These are comparison questions, not established features of every title on the shortlist.

Work out the full purchase and content model
Compare the upfront edition with any add-ons, paid content, or ongoing progression costs relevant to the version you want. Check the current store page and official game information; the shortlist alone does not establish a current price or monetization model for any alternative.

Reviews can help explain what fans might want from an alternative, but they are one reviewer’s judgment rather than a guarantee of every player’s experience. PC Gamer’s review praised the tracks’ off-road routes, verticality, shortcuts, experimentation, and the customization, while criticizing the online experience and the game’s value as assessed at review time. That assessment is not a statement about today’s price or every player’s online experience.

In a 2026 roundup, TechRadar praised the racing, track design, gadget system, and vehicle customization. Its writer said meaningful content was still being added in 2026; that is a dated editorial assessment, not confirmation of a current update schedule. TechRadar reviewer Rhys Wood also wrote, “Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds isn’t just the best racing game of the year; it brings a confidence and energy that the genre has rarely seen over the past decade and a half.” That is the reviewer’s opinion, not an objective ranking.
Is CrossWorlds still worth considering?
SEGA announced on October 23, 2025, that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds had sold more than 1 million units worldwide. That is a dated company announcement, not a current sales total. SEGA’s announcement.
For a direct comparison, use the game’s official listing to understand the features you are leaving behind, then verify each alternative against your hardware, preferred multiplayer setup, desired driving depth, and budget. The Travel Rings, gadget system, local and online formats, and course variety are specific comparison points; the best fit is the game that matches the parts you value most.
