Choose a Game Boy Color (GBC) screen kit by its viewing window, shell fit, and installation requirements—not by “drop-in” wording or headline resolution. Larger laminated panels may need a matching shell or extensive cutting, while USB-C charging is a separate board replacement that can add substantial soldering and case work. Confirm the exact kit revision and its manual before ordering.
How to choose a GBC screen kit
Start by deciding whether you want a larger display or want to preserve the original screen opening. Then check the shell, lens, included parts, soldering requirements, and instructions for the exact revision. A larger panel is not automatically compatible with an unmodified OEM shell, and a screen kit does not automatically add USB-C charging.

Cloud Game Store 2.45-inch original-window kit
The standard version retains the original viewing window, fits the original screen opening without shell cuts, and has one power solder point. Its laminated variant does require cutting, so check the listing carefully: “2.45-inch” alone does not tell you whether it is the no-cut version. Game Boy Resource

What to verify before you order
- Confirm the console. Make sure the kit is for Game Boy Color. Similar-looking kits for Game Boy Pocket, original Game Boy, or Game Boy Advance are not interchangeable by default.
- Choose the viewing window. Larger panels may need different lens dimensions and shell geometry. An original-window kit is the more relevant category if keeping the OEM opening matters.
- Check the shell and lens. Confirm whether each is included and, if you are buying a replacement shell, that it is made for the exact panel. For an OEM shell, find the documented cut requirements.
- Read the matching revision’s instructions. Check the product name and revision against its manual; do not assume another model’s tutorial applies.
- Check soldering by feature. Basic display operation may have different requirements from power wiring, brightness controls, or logo-color options. Decide based on the functions you intend to use.
- Check what the listing actually includes. Marketplace listings may offer screen-only variants or omit a shell, lens, or other parts you expected.
- Treat charging as a separate modification. If you also want USB-C, verify that the charging board works with your screen, and review its battery and case-modification requirements before combining the projects.
USB-C charging is a separate, advanced mod

FunnyPlaying’s FPGBC is a full replacement-console kit with its own dedicated housing and lithium-battery requirements. It is not a screen upgrade for an original Game Boy Color.
