For the best balance, keep the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra’s adaptive 120 Hz display if smooth motion matters, set brightness only as high as your surroundings require, and use its ambient-light features for visibility rather than expecting them to extend battery life. If runtime is the priority, check whether your shipping One UI 9 build offers a lower refresh-rate option; choosing it may make motion feel less fluid, but Samsung and independent sources have not quantified the battery savings for this tablet.

The Tab S12 Ultra was announced on September 30, 2026, and Samsung says availability begins October 7 in select markets. That means exact retail menu labels and behavior were not yet independently established as of October 3, 2026. The guidance below separates confirmed hardware and test figures from settings advice that should be checked on your device.

Which settings should you use?

Priority Recommended approach Trade-off or evidence limit
Smoother scrolling and animation Keep adaptive 120 Hz behavior enabled if your tablet offers that option. Higher refresh can use more power in principle, but no reviewed S12 Ultra source measures the difference.
Longer runtime Check for a lower refresh-rate choice and use it if available; set the screen to a comfortable, lower indoor brightness. Motion may look less fluid. No reliable percentage or added-hours estimate is available for this model.
Outdoor readability Increase brightness as conditions require and let Seamless Vision Booster assist with ambient-light visibility if enabled. Maximum brightness and High Brightness Mode are for demanding lighting, not a default setting proven to be best for battery life.

Samsung identifies the screen as a 14.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with 2960 × 1848 resolution and an adaptive 120 Hz refresh rate. Its US launch announcement describes the adaptive display at Samsung Newsroom US.

How to adjust refresh rate without guessing at menus

The available sources confirm adaptive 120 Hz hardware but do not document the exact One UI 9 menu path or whether a lower refresh option is exposed on every regional build. Avoid relying on instructions for older Galaxy tablets as though they were confirmed for the S12 Ultra.

  1. Open Settings on the shipping tablet and look for the display or motion-related controls. Exact labels and location require confirmation on the device.
  2. If a refresh or motion-smoothness setting is present, retain the adaptive/high option when fluid scrolling is more important than runtime.
  3. If a lower-rate option is offered and runtime takes priority, try it during ordinary use and judge whether the change in motion is acceptable. There is no model-specific measured battery gain to predict.

This is a verification-oriented route, not a confirmed tap-by-tap One UI 9 path. Samsung’s documentation for the older Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra names Standard and Maximum Power saving modes, but it does not establish the S12 Ultra’s menus or available controls: Samsung’s Tab S9 Ultra update notice.

Set brightness for the room, not a fixed percentage

Indoors

Lower brightness until text and content remain comfortable to read. This is practical guidance, not a measured S12 Ultra battery test; Samsung itself lists screen brightness among the factors that affect playback time.

Outdoors or in bright rooms

Raise brightness only as conditions require. Samsung lists up to 1,600 nits peak brightness and 1,000 nits in High Brightness Mode (HBM) on its UK product page. These are visibility capabilities, not recommended everyday targets or evidence of a particular runtime.

Ambient-light assistance

Samsung says Seamless Vision Booster adjusts brightness and contrast according to ambient lighting. Treat it as a visibility feature; the available material does not show that it saves power. The display figures and feature description are on Samsung UK’s Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra specifications page.

What the battery estimates and test actually tell you

Samsung lists an 11,600 mAh battery and up to 23 hours of video playback. The 23-hour figure is Samsung’s estimate from internal lab testing with a pre-release model: 720p video stored on the device, played over LTE with Bluetooth earphones, under default settings. Samsung notes that actual playback varies with connection, settings, file format, brightness and battery condition. It is not a promise of mixed-use runtime.

Tom’s Guide reported 11 hours 31 minutes of continuous Wi-Fi web browsing at 150 nits in its September 30, 2026 review. That is a separate controlled workload, not a direct comparison with Samsung’s stored-video test; the conditions differ. See Tom’s Guide’s Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra review.

The tablet runs Android 17 with One UI 9, according to Samsung. Samsung also describes a 3 nm processor and redesigned 3D vapor chamber intended to dissipate heat more efficiently. Its claims of up to 19% faster CPU and 17% improved GPU performance versus the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra are manufacturer comparisons, not independent S12 Ultra benchmark results; the vapor chamber is not a guarantee against heat-related performance changes under sustained demanding workloads. Samsung’s launch details are in its Global Newsroom release.

Which settings changes are not established?

  • No reviewed S12 Ultra source quantifies battery savings from lowering refresh rate, changing brightness, or enabling or disabling Vision Booster.
  • The exact One UI 9 Battery, Power saving and Motion smoothness labels and paths have not been established for the shipping tablet; they may need checking on the regional device and build.
  • Instructions documented for the Tab S9 Ultra are not proof of identical S12 Ultra controls.
  • There is no basis here for advising users to turn off Wi-Fi, synchronization or background activity wholesale as an S12 Ultra best practice.

Charging detail, if runtime is the practical concern

Samsung says a charger is not included and specifies a 45 W adapter for its charging claim. Confirm regional compatibility and USB-C Power Delivery requirements when choosing an adapter; no third-party charger has been tested here. Samsung lists a compatible anti-reflecting screen protector with 1.8% low reflectance as a separately sold accessory. It may help manage reflections, but it is not a battery accessory or brightness upgrade. Both details appear on Samsung UK’s product specifications page.
