OBS Studio is the best free option for rotating prerecorded yoga sessions in a YouTube live stream. Use its VLC Video source for a playlist of multiple recordings, or its Media Source with Loop enabled for one recording. OBS handles playback and streaming from your computer; YouTube channel eligibility and live-event setup are separate requirements.
Which free software should you use?
Use OBS Studio to send prerecorded yoga sessions to YouTube Live. It is free to use, with no watermark or commercial-use restriction according to the OBS Help Portal. For rotating several files, pair OBS with VLC and add a VLC Video source. For a single file, OBS’s built-in Media Source can loop it without VLC.

How to rotate prerecorded yoga videos with OBS
1. Install OBS and, for a playlist, VLC
- Download and install OBS Studio from the official OBS site.
- For a multi-video rotation, install VLC. Match its architecture to OBS: 64-bit OBS needs 64-bit VLC.
2. Create a scene and add the recordings
- In OBS, create or select a scene for the stream.
- For multiple sessions, add a VLC Video source to that scene. Add the local recordings to its playlist in the order you want them to play.
- Leave Loop Playlist enabled if you want the rotation to start over after the final session. Enable Shuffle Playlist only when randomized order is appropriate; leave it off for a planned class sequence.
For one recording instead, add a Media Source and enable Loop. OBS lists supported local formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, FLV, TS, and WebM.

3. Connect OBS to your YouTube live event
Set up the live event and stream destination using the current controls in YouTube Studio and OBS. Channel-specific eligibility and exact account settings can vary; check your own YouTube Studio live controls rather than assuming a channel can stream immediately. Preview the scene, then verify that both video and audio arrive in YouTube Studio before sharing the stream.
Keep your stream key private. If the connection is not accepted, recheck the selected YouTube destination and key in OBS against the live event you intend to broadcast.

4. Review playback and rights before going public
- Preview the playlist and confirm the order, transitions, framing, and sound levels.
- Confirm that you have the necessary rights to every video and audio track, including music in the background. YouTube says it scans live streams for third-party content; it may replace a stream with a placeholder or temporarily interrupt or terminate it.
- If you have a license for third-party material, the rights holder may still need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. See YouTube’s live-streaming copyright guidance.
Choose playlist order or shuffle deliberately
Ordered playback is the better fit when the rotation is meant to follow a class plan—for example, a gentle warm-up, a standing sequence, and a cooldown. Shuffle is useful when variety matters more than a predictable sequence. Either way, check that every file in the playlist is suitable to play next and that its audio is at a consistent, comfortable level.

What the local OBS setup requires
OBS runs the playback and encoding on your computer, and your internet connection carries the broadcast to YouTube. The computer must remain on and OBS must keep running for the stream to continue. That makes OBS a strong no-software-cost option if you already have a suitable computer and a stable connection, but it is not a hands-off cloud workflow.

There is no need to buy special hardware just to try the workflow; whether an existing computer performs well depends on its capabilities and the video settings you choose. For current channel-specific streaming requirements and encoder guidance, consult YouTube Studio rather than relying on a universal setting.
Troubleshooting common problems
- VLC Video is missing: Install VLC, then restart OBS. If OBS is 64-bit, make sure VLC is 64-bit too.
- The playlist stops at the last session: Open the VLC Video source properties and enable Loop Playlist.
- A single file does not repeat: Check the Media Source properties and enable Loop.
- Sessions play in an unexpected order: Turn off Shuffle Playlist for a fixed sequence, then check the playlist order.
- YouTube interrupts or replaces the live video: Check for third-party video or audio. A license does not necessarily prevent a match from interrupting a live stream; ask the rights holder about adding your channel to the Content ID allowlist.
- The live preview has no sound or video: Check the OBS scene and source, then preview again in YouTube Studio before sending viewers to the event.
