If you want more control over how clips are assembled, try VN: Photo & Video Editor. Its Android and iPhone listings describe a multi-track timeline, layers, text, audio, speed controls, and exports up to 4K at 60fps. It is free to download, but its store listings also disclose ads or in-app purchases, so check the feature and export screens before building a workflow around it. Google Photos remains useful for quick edits and adjustments.
What Google Photos can already do
Google Photos offers more than basic trimming. On Android, its video tools include trimming and saving a copy, exporting a frame, cropping, rotating, straightening or mirroring, stabilizing, adjusting color and lighting, applying filters and effects, adding styled text, changing playback speed, muting audio, and adding music. Google also lists adjustments such as brightness, contrast, highlights, shadows, saturation, warmth, tint, skin and blue tones, vignette, and HDR effect. Availability depends on the Android device and feature. Google says some crop, straighten, and filter features require Android 6.0 or later and at least 1 GB of RAM; the page also says non-Pixel Android 9 devices do not support or have access to video editing. Its Adjust and Filters/effects sections specify Android 8.0 or later and at least 3 GB of RAM. Audio Eraser is limited to Pixel 8 and newer. Check Google’s current help page and your device rather than treating any one requirement as universal.

VN is the clearest documented choice here if you want to arrange clips and layers on a timeline rather than make changes to a single video. The Google Play listing describes a multi-track timeline, overlays, masks, trimming and merging, text and stickers, music and voice-over, speed controls, keyframes, filters, transitions, captions, and exports up to 4K at 60fps. It also lists ads and in-app purchases; the listing shows an update date of September 30, 2026.

The US App Store listing describes VN for iPhone and iPad as free with in-app purchases and lists similar editing tools and 4K/60fps export. Store availability and feature descriptions can change, and an app’s availability on both platforms does not guarantee every feature works identically on each. Check the listing for your region and the app itself for current details.

- Quick fixes to an existing clip: Start with Google Photos if trimming, stabilization, color adjustments, text, speed changes, or music meet your needs and the features are available on your device.
- More deliberate clip assembly: Try VN if you want its documented multi-track timeline, overlays, captions, or more control over timing.
- Before committing to a free workflow: Check the current app-store listing and the export screen for any paid tools, assets, limits, or watermark terms that matter to your project. “Free to download” does not establish that every feature or export option is free.
The available store descriptions establish VN’s listed capabilities, not hands-on performance or watermark behavior for every export. Treat “up to 4K at 60fps” as a capability stated by the app listings, not an independent performance test.
