There is no single agreed-upon best foldable phone in 2026. Choose the shape first: a book-style foldable gives you a larger screen for multitasking, while a clamshell folds smaller and makes its cover screen useful for quick interactions and selfies. Among the current picks, TechRadar favors the Galaxy Z Fold 7 while awaiting full reviews of newer Samsung models; Android Central names the Galaxy Z Flip 8 its best overall. Those are different editorial judgments, not a settled consensus.

Which type of foldable should you buy?

Choose a book-style foldable for screen space

A book-style phone opens into a larger, tablet-like display. It is the better fit if you want room for work, reading, or multiple apps at once. Check how many apps the phone can show simultaneously, as well as whether its cover screen feels usable when the phone is closed.

Choose a clamshell for a smaller closed phone

A clamshell folds into a compact shape. Its outer display can handle quick interactions, and it can let you use the rear cameras for selfies while the phone is closed. Compare how useful that cover screen is, along with battery life, durability, and price.

Phone What stands out Important trade-off Battery result reported by Tom’s Guide
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 TechRadar’s guide names it its top foldable while it waits for reviews of newer Samsung models. Tom’s Guide describes it as thinner and lighter than the Pixel 10 Pro Fold and says it can run three apps at once. Tom’s Guide reports IP48 protection and weaker battery performance than the Pixel in its comparison. The phone’s 200MP main-camera hardware is noted in that guide. 10 hours 44 minutes in Tom’s Guide’s 5G web-surfing test.
Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold Tom’s Guide reports an 8-inch main display, a 5x optical zoom lens, IP68, and a 5,015mAh battery. Tom’s Guide describes it as thicker and heavier than the Fold 7 and says it is limited to two apps side by side. 12 hours 16 minutes in Tom’s Guide’s 5G web-surfing test.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Tom’s Guide reports a 7.6-inch main screen, a 4,800mAh battery, 45W wired charging, IP48, and support for three apps at once. Recommendations have not converged across publications; do not treat one outlet’s review as a universal ranking. 12 hours 19 minutes in Tom’s Guide’s 5G web-surfing test.
Motorola Razr Fold 2026 Android Central’s comparison describes an 8.1-inch main display, stylus support, and a 6,000mAh silicon-carbon battery. Read Android Central’s Razr Fold vs. Galaxy Z Fold 7 comparison. TechRadar says it did not consider the model compelling enough for its best-of list. Not stated.

The three Tom’s Guide battery figures in the table come from its 5G web-surfing tests, making them more relevant to one another than results from different test methods. They remain publisher-reported results, not a guarantee of everyday battery life.

Which book-style model fits your priorities?

  • For a slim, multitasking-focused option: The Fold 7 is TechRadar’s current guide pick, and Tom’s Guide describes it as thinner and lighter than the Pixel and capable of displaying three apps at once.
  • For a telephoto camera and IP68 rating: The Pixel 10 Pro Fold offers the 5x optical zoom and rating reported by Tom’s Guide. Its review listed a U.S. starting price of $1,799 for the 256GB configuration in 2026, $200 below the comparable 256GB Fold 7 price at that time. That is a historical review price, not a current offer.
  • For a newer Samsung option: Tom’s Guide reviewed the Fold 8 and reports three-app multitasking. TechRadar’s guide was still waiting to fully review the newer Samsung foldables when it retained the Fold 7 as its top pick.
  • If you are considering Motorola: The Razr Fold is a book-style alternative, but TechRadar did not include it among its best-of picks. Android Central’s specifications and characterization are outlet-reported, not a consensus ranking.

Phone What the guides say What to weigh
Motorola Razr Ultra 2026 Tom’s Guide names it its battery-life pick and lists a 7-inch inner screen and 4-inch outer screen. Tom’s Guide flags its higher price as a drawback. Its battery result is from a different test method than the book-style phones’ web-surfing-over-5G results.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 Android Central ranks it best overall, citing performance, cameras, battery, and cover display. TechRadar’s guide said it was waiting to review the new Samsung foldables, so that guide’s status differs from Android Central’s ranking.
Motorola Razr (2026) Android Central presents it as a budget foldable and reports IP48 and a 4,800mAh battery. A current street price was not established in the reviewed material, so its value versus other models cannot be confirmed here.

Battery results are tied to the test

Tom’s Guide reports 16 hours 20 minutes for the Razr Ultra 2026 in its 2026 battery-drain test. That is a different method from the web-surfing-over-5G test used for the Fold 7, Pixel 10 Pro Fold, and Fold 8. Do not compare the Razr figure directly with those results as if all phones faced the same test.

How much should durability influence your choice?

The IP ratings reported for these phones differ by model: Tom’s Guide lists IP68 for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold and IP48 for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Fold 8; Android Central reports IP48 for the Motorola Razr (2026). A rating is not a promise that a phone is protected against every kind of damage. Consider it alongside the phone’s other trade-offs rather than as a complete durability verdict.

How to make the final choice

  1. Pick the shape. Go book-style for a large work surface and multitasking, or clamshell for a more compact folded phone and quick cover-screen use.
  2. Choose the feature you will use most. For the Pixel, that may be the 5x optical zoom and IP68 rating; for Samsung’s book-style models, it may be three-app multitasking; for the Razr Ultra, it may be its cover display or its battery-test result.
  3. Check the practical compromises. Compare closed and open-screen usability, weight and thickness, camera reach, durability rating, and the software support and price for the exact model and market you are considering.
  4. Check current local pricing and availability before buying. The Pixel’s cited $1,799 U.S. price is a 2026 review price, not a live listing, and no current street price was established for the Razr (2026).
