For a 720p, 30 fps YouTube live stream encoded with H.264, start at 5,000 kbps video. YouTube’s current live-ingest guidance recommends 3–8 Mbps for 720p30 H.264; 5 Mbps is a practical starting point within that range, not a YouTube-prescribed setting for bhajans or 24/7 broadcasts. Pair it with CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and separately configured audio.

Recommended starting settings for 720p30 bhajan streams

Setting Starting value Why it matters
Video codec and frame rate H.264 at 30 fps The bitrate recommendation below applies to this specific resolution, codec, and frame rate.
Video bitrate 5,000 kbps (-b:v 5000k) A practical initial target within YouTube’s 3–8 Mbps recommended range for 720p30 H.264. The 5 Mbps choice is an editorial inference, not a genre-specific YouTube recommendation.
Rate control CBR YouTube lists constant bitrate as the live encoder setting.
Keyframe interval 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds YouTube recommends a two-second interval and sets four seconds as the maximum.
Audio AAC or MP3; stereo at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz YouTube lists AAC and MP3 as accepted live audio codecs and recommends 128 kbps for stereo.
Ingest protocol RTMP or RTMPS These are the protocols listed in YouTube’s live encoder settings.

These are live-ingest settings, not YouTube’s recommendations for uploading a finished video. YouTube’s published H.264 figures are 3 Mbps minimum and 8 Mbps recommended for both 720p30 and 720p60; the frame rate still needs to match the stream you actually send. See YouTube’s live encoder settings (guidance retrieved October 3, 2026).

How to choose a bitrate for devotional music

Start with the real resolution and frame rate

Use the 720p30 range only if the outgoing stream is actually 720p at 30 fps and uses H.264. YouTube says its recommended bitrate depends on ingestion codec, resolution, and frame rate—not the program’s genre. A bhajan stream does not have a separate official bitrate allowance.

Balance picture quality against connection stability

At 5 Mbps, judge the picture using the actual video: a still image or simple background may need less than footage with movement or fine detail. If the upload connection is the constraint, test a lower value within YouTube’s recommended range. If detail or motion looks poor and the connection has stable spare capacity, test a higher value, up to the recommended 8 Mbps. These are options to evaluate, not guaranteed quality outcomes.

  • 【Package Content & Note】 1x HD Audio Capture Card , 1x USB 3.0 to USB C Adapter (A-side 3.0, B-side 2.0), 1x user manual. Please note that you need to restart the OBS Studio software after the audio setup is complete, otherwise it will result in no sound output. When using an adapter, if the device is recognized as USB 2.0, try using the other side with the USB-C port. Simply flip the capture card and reconnect it to be recognized as USB 3.0

Include audio in the capacity calculation. A 5 Mbps video stream plus 128 kbps stereo audio already needs more than the video bitrate alone, before accounting for protocol overhead or connection variation. A bitrate within YouTube’s range cannot ensure an uninterrupted stream if the available upload capacity fluctuates.

Set the FFmpeg encoder values carefully

For a 30 fps stream, a two-second GOP corresponds to 60 frames, so -g 60 is the illustrative GOP value. Combined with -b:v 5000k, that expresses the target video bitrate and interval. It does not, by itself, guarantee that every FFmpeg encoder will produce strict CBR output: rate-control behavior depends on the selected encoder and its options.

Use the correct stream destination and key

In YouTube Studio’s live control room, create or open the stream and use the server URL and stream key shown there in your encoder. Treat the key as a credential: do not publish it or include it in a public command, screenshot, or log. YouTube documents stream keys and other live settings, including latency, DVR, and rights management, on its live streaming settings page.

Verify rights to the complete recording

Confirm that you have permission to use the recording and every included composition, performance, and other protected material in a continuous YouTube broadcast. Devotional subject matter does not itself establish that a recording is cleared. YouTube’s rights-management controls do not grant rights to a particular track; review the material and applicable permissions before going live.

Test before running continuously

  1. Match the production conditions. Test the same resolution, frame rate, encoder, audio, and type of video movement you intend to broadcast. YouTube specifically advises testing with similar audio and movement before the live stream.
  2. Check the outgoing stream. Confirm the actual video bitrate, H.264 encoding, frame rate, keyframe interval, and stereo audio settings rather than assuming the requested encoder values took effect.
  3. Watch stream health under load. Look for bitrate instability, dropped frames, audio problems, and encoder overload during a sustained test. A short successful start does not establish reliability over a 24-hour run.
  4. Change one variable at a time. If the stream is unstable, reduce video bitrate within YouTube’s recommended range or address the connection or encoder bottleneck, then retest. If the picture lacks detail, test a higher bitrate only when stable upload headroom is available.

YouTube’s guidance recommends testing before the event and monitoring stream health; it does not guarantee uninterrupted service at any particular bitrate. The 3–8 Mbps range is published live-ingest guidance, not the result of a controlled test of bhajan material or a 24-hour stream.

Troubleshoot common 720p live-stream problems

Symptom Likely issue to check What to do
Unstable stream or dropped frames Insufficient or fluctuating upload capacity, or encoder overload Check the sustained outgoing connection and encoder load. Test a lower video bitrate within the recommended range; confirm audio capacity is included.
Soft or blocky picture Video target may be too low for the movement or detail in the source Compare a higher bitrate within the 3–8 Mbps range while keeping resolution, frame rate, and codec constant. Verify upload headroom first.
Keyframe or ingest warning Keyframe interval may not match the recommended setting Set a two-second interval; at 30 fps, the illustrative GOP is 60 frames. Do not exceed four seconds.
Audio sounds poor or is missing Codec, channel layout, sample rate, or bitrate may be misconfigured Check that the encoder sends AAC or MP3 and verify stereo audio at YouTube’s recommended 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz.
FFmpeg values appear correct but the stream behaves differently The selected encoder’s rate control may interpret options differently Consult that encoder’s documentation and inspect the outgoing stream; do not assume -b:v alone enforces strict CBR.
