There is no universally best C.A.M.P. location in Fallout 76: the right site depends on which parts of Appalachia you explore and which destinations you want nearby. For convenience, compare candidate sites with the game’s free fast-travel destinations and your usual activities, then test whether the spot accepts your C.A.M.P. Bethesda has not published a ranked list of coordinates or verified travel savings for specific sites.
What makes a C.A.M.P. location useful?
Choose a site around a real priority rather than a supposed universal winner. Appalachia has six regions: the Forest, Toxic Valley, Ash Heap, Savage Divide, The Mire, and Cranberry Bog. A base near the region you regularly explore can make it a convenient starting point, but no region or specific coordinate is officially designated as best.
- Fast-travel convenience: Consider how a site relates to destinations you use frequently, especially the destinations you can reach for free.
- Exploration access: Prioritize the region, points of interest, or activity you want to explore. For example, the June 2, 2026 Infestations release notes say infestations can appear in all six regions and must be discovered while exploring.
- Building flexibility: Think about whether the terrain suits your intended build, then verify the location in-game. Relaxed Build Rules expanded placement options, but do not guarantee that every surface or coordinate will accept a C.A.M.P.
- Personal fit: Scenery, roleplay, nearby resources, vendor foot traffic, or access to a particular activity may matter to you. Treat these as personal selection criteria, not proof that a location is objectively superior.
How fast travel affects your choice
Bethesda’s Fallout 76 newcomer guide, published June 10, 2021, says discovered locations can be reached for Caps, while travel to your C.A.M.P., teammates, Vault 76, Foundation, The Crater, Fort Atlas, and public events is free. The Travel Agent Charisma Perk Card, available at level 26, discounts fast-travel costs.
Use those free destinations as reference points when comparing a candidate site with places you visit often. A base may be convenient if it reduces the need for a paid travel hop on your usual routes, but the savings depend on the route and current cost. Bethesda does not publish site-by-site Caps savings, so there is no reliable fixed amount to assign to a coordinate.

How to find and test a candidate site
- Pick your priority. Decide which region, activity, or familiar destination you want your base to serve.
- Check the map. Compare the candidate area with discovered locations and free fast-travel destinations. Train-station maps and lookout towers reveal nearby points of interest, but you still need to visit locations in person to fully discover them.
- Try the placement in-game. Bethesda’s newcomer guide describes opening the Pip-Boy, selecting “Move C.A.M.P.,” placing the apparatus in a suitable location, and building there. A map position alone does not establish that a particular spot is placeable.
- Reassess as you play. If your exploration focus changes, you can move your C.A.M.P. and choose a new site that better suits your routes.
What changed about C.A.M.P. placement?
In its September 2, 2025 C.A.M.P. Revamp announcement, Bethesda said Relaxed Build Rules became available in Adventure Mode, reducing restrictions on what players can place. That change makes older placement advice potentially outdated, but it does not establish that every location is buildable. Check a prospective spot in the current game rather than relying on old claims about its placement rules.

The official sources establish fast-travel mechanics, exploration regions, placement controls, and the 2025 rule change; they do not compare individual C.A.M.P. coordinates. Current buildability, route costs, nearby resources, and the best match for a player’s routine require checking the specific site in-game. A useful recommendation should therefore identify a site’s landmark, region, benefit, and limitation only when those details have been verified against a current map or in-game.
