There are two good ways to take “after Jurassic World”: continue the franchise with the earlier Jurassic Park films, or choose a standalone dinosaur or creature adventure with a different story. For a direct connection, start with Jurassic Park (1993); for a dangerous-island spectacle, try King Kong (2005); for gentler animated journeys, choose The Land Before Time or The Good Dinosaur.
Continue the Jurassic story
Start with Jurassic Park (1993)
If you mean the next film to watch in the franchise, go back to its beginning: Jurassic Park is the starting point, followed by two sequels before the Jurassic World films. Amblin’s film page identifies the original and its sequels. This is the path for franchise continuity; the other recommendations below are standalone stories, not continuations of the Jurassic plot.
Choose a standalone dinosaur or creature adventure
King Kong (2005): expedition and island spectacle
Peter Jackson’s King Kong is the closest match here if you want a perilous expedition, oversized creatures, and large-scale visual effects. The journey to Skull Island brings dinosaurs among the dangers, alongside Kong. It is a creature adventure rather than a dinosaur-focused story throughout, so choose it for the island setting and spectacle more than for nonstop dinosaur action. Metacritic’s dinosaur-movie recommendations makes a similar comparison with Jurassic World.

The Land Before Time: a gentler survival journey
For a classic animated family adventure, The Land Before Time follows five young dinosaurs on a dangerous journey toward the Great Valley. Amblin describes it as a story of hope and survival. Its animation and child-oriented tone make it a gentler alternative to the live-action peril and spectacle of Jurassic World. See Amblin’s film page.

The Good Dinosaur: friendship and wilderness
The Good Dinosaur imagines a world where dinosaurs did not go extinct, then follows Apatosaurus Arlo and his human friend through a harsh landscape. Disney lists the animated family film as PG and gives its release date as November 28, 2015. It is a better fit for emotional growth, friendship, and a wilderness journey than for theme-park suspense. Pixar’s film page attributes this description of the river motif to director Peter Sohn: “That same river becomes the yellow brick road back to Arlo’s family.”
Pick by the kind of adventure you want
| If you want… | Watch | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Franchise continuity | Jurassic Park (1993) | The starting point for the Jurassic story, followed by two sequels. |
| Dangerous-island creature spectacle | King Kong (2005) | An expedition to Skull Island, with dinosaurs among the threats and Kong as the central creature. |
| A gentler animated survival story | The Land Before Time | Young dinosaurs journey toward the Great Valley in a family adventure about hope and survival. |
| Animated friendship and wilderness | The Good Dinosaur | Arlo and his human friend travel across a harsh landscape in an alternate-history setting. |
These are recommendations by fit, not an objective ranking. Action, adventure, and fantasy are useful broad categories, but dinosaur prominence, age suitability, tone, and whether you want franchise continuity are better ways to decide among them.

Check where a film is available in your country
Streaming catalogs and digital-rental options change by country and over time. Netflix Tudum notes that its recommendations can vary by region; check the current listings for your country and services before settling on a film. No single streaming service or rental option is established here for every title and location. Netflix Tudum’s dinosaur-movie list is one place to browse, but it is not a guarantee of local availability.
