For a 24/7 YouTube bhajan stream that sends a prepared, already-encoded audio feed, DigitalOcean’s 2 GiB Basic Droplet is a reasonable low-cost starting point: DigitalOcean listed it at $12/month on October 3, 2026, with 1 vCPU, 2,000 GiB of transfer and 50 GiB SSD. If the Droplet must continuously encode video or run other CPU-heavy processing, compare a dedicated-CPU plan instead. Neither size is a tested performance guarantee; the right choice depends on what the server actually does.
Which Droplet should you start with?
First decide whether the Droplet will relay a prepared stream or produce and encode the stream itself. Relaying an already-encoded feed is generally less CPU-intensive than continuously rendering visuals and encoding video. A bhajan audio stream with a static image may still involve encoding, depending on how it is built. The title alone does not establish that workload, so treat the plan sizes below as candidates to test rather than guaranteed specifications.
| DigitalOcean option | Listed resources and price | When to consider it |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | 2 GiB RAM, 1 vCPU, 2,000 GiB transfer, 50 GiB SSD; $12/month | A low-cost starting point for relaying a prepared, modest stream or testing a simple setup. |
| Basic | 4 GiB RAM, 2 vCPUs, 4,000 GiB transfer, 80 GiB SSD; $24/month | A larger shared-CPU option if the workload needs more memory or CPU resources, subject to testing. |
| CPU-Optimized dedicated CPU | Exact plan price and resource bundle depend on the selected plan; see DigitalOcean’s current Droplet pricing. | Compare if the server continuously encodes video or performs sustained CPU-intensive processing. |
DigitalOcean’s listed prices and bundles above were observed on October 3, 2026; confirm current catalog availability and pricing before creating a Droplet. DigitalOcean describes Basic Droplets as shared-CPU plans for workloads that underuse dedicated threads. Shared CPU access can vary with neighboring workloads; dedicated CPU plans provide access to the full hyper-thread. DigitalOcean identifies CPU-Optimized Droplets for CPU-intensive, predictable workloads and lists video encoding as an example, but that does not show that a particular plan can encode an unspecified codec, resolution or frame rate. See DigitalOcean’s plan selection guidance.
Estimate transfer before choosing a plan
Audio-only stream
YouTube recommends 128 Kbps for stereo audio. At a constant 128 Kbps, the audio payload alone is about 1.38 decimal GB per day or 41.5 decimal GB over 30 days. This is a calculation from YouTube’s recommended bitrate, not a provider measurement; network protocol overhead adds traffic. See YouTube’s encoder settings.

Stream with video
For video, estimate transfer from the total sustained audio and video bitrate multiplied by streaming time, then convert bits to bytes. For example, a 2 Mbps total stream running continuously for 30 days would carry about 648 decimal GB before protocol overhead: 2,000,000 bits per second × 2,592,000 seconds ÷ 8. Compare your estimate with the plan’s monthly transfer allowance and leave room for overhead and other traffic.
DigitalOcean says bundled transfer is pooled across Droplets at the team level and lists $0.01 per additional GiB for outbound transfer above the allowance. Its pricing documentation also says a Droplet continues to incur charges while powered off because compute remains reserved; destroying it ends that billing. Check the current details at DigitalOcean’s pricing and bandwidth documentation.

Configure the YouTube stream correctly
- Check eligibility. YouTube says live streaming requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and streamers must be at least 16 years old. Review YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements.
- Create or schedule the live stream in YouTube Studio. In the encoder workflow, YouTube provides a stream URL and stream key. Treat the key as a password: do not put it in public scripts, screenshots, or logs, and regenerate it if exposed. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- Use the recommended connection and audio settings. YouTube recommends RTMPS and supports AAC or MP3 audio; its recommended stereo audio bitrate is 128 Kbps. Configure the encoder to use the stream URL and key supplied for that broadcast.
- If sending video, set encoder parameters deliberately. YouTube’s general encoder guide recommends a two-second keyframe interval and constant bitrate encoding for streams with video. Choose resolution, frame rate and bitrate based on the prepared source and the upload capacity available at the server; the plan recommendation alone cannot determine those settings.
- Allow network headroom and monitor stream health. YouTube recommends roughly 20% upload headroom above the stream bitrate and warns that connection disruption can break a stream. Test the actual audio/video configuration and monitor YouTube’s stream health rather than assuming that a running Droplet guarantees an uninterrupted broadcast. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
Plan for a long-running bhajan broadcast
Separate streaming from archiving
YouTube states that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a single uninterrupted 24-hour event will be saved as one complete video. If an archive matters, verify current YouTube behavior and plan event segmentation or a separate recording workflow.
Check music rights and channel policies
A devotional song is not automatically free to stream because of its subject or tradition. Confirm that you have the rights or permission for the recording and composition you use, and review YouTube’s current copyright and live-streaming policies before broadcasting. The available plan information does not establish whether any particular bhajan recording is licensed for your channel.

Design for recovery, not just server size
A Droplet plan is not an uptime guarantee. Decide how you will detect a failed encoder or dropped connection, restart the process, and verify that YouTube is receiving the feed again. If you need continued service through a Droplet or network failure, a separate failover design is required; the plan figures above do not provide one.
Common sizing and setup problems
- CPU stays high or the encoder struggles: determine whether the Droplet is encoding or merely relaying. For sustained encoding, test an appropriate dedicated-CPU plan rather than assuming a shared-CPU Basic plan will provide predictable capacity.
- Transfer use is higher than expected: include video bitrate, protocol overhead and other team Droplets when checking the pooled allowance. Compare actual usage with the estimate and DigitalOcean’s current overage terms.
- YouTube reports poor stream health or drops the feed: check encoder output, network stability and upload headroom against the total stream bitrate. YouTube recommends about 20% headroom; this is not a substitute for testing the actual connection.
- The stream key no longer works or may be exposed: check the stream details in YouTube Studio and replace a compromised key. Keep the active key private.
- You cannot find a complete 24-hour archive: YouTube’s stated automatic archive behavior applies to streams under 12 hours, so plan shorter events or separate recording if a complete archive is needed.
- A stopped Droplet still costs money: powering it off does not end billing while compute is reserved. Destroy it to end Droplet billing, while recognizing that destroying it also removes that server.
Or let it run in the cloud
If maintaining a Droplet, encoder process and recovery routine is more work than you want, StreamNeo keeps an uploaded video or playlist running as a YouTube live stream: upload the recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home. The uploaded quality is streamed as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the Monthly plan is $9.99 per month. Start your free day on StreamNeo.
