A dedicated server gives one customer the entire physical machine rather than a slice of a shared server or virtual machine. That can provide predictable CPU and storage performance, more control over the operating system, and enough capacity for high-traffic sites, databases, game servers, virtualization, and business applications.

It also transfers more responsibility to you. Root access does not automatically include patching, backups, monitoring, malware cleanup, or application support. The six providers below cover different priorities: long-established U.S. operations, managed support, low price, high bandwidth, U.S. locations, and gaming protection.

Prices and features were checked for August 2026. Hosting prices, availability, taxes, setup fees, and promotional terms can change, so treat the figures as comparison points rather than permanent quotes.

Quick comparison

Provider Best for Example starting price Management model Notable detail
Atlantic.Net Managed U.S. dedicated servers and infrastructure clusters Quoted per configuration Managed, with optional security services 100% SLA, 100% U.S.-based support, hosting since 1994
Liquid Web Managed dedicated hosting $205.70/month displayed example Managed 99.99% uptime guarantee and 30-minute hardware replacement SLA
OVHcloud Bandwidth, gaming, and bare metal value From $79/month for Game; $98/month for Advance Primarily self-managed Anti-DDoS protection and unlimited traffic in most regions
Hetzner Price-to-performance for technical users AX42-1: $117.10/month plus $59 setup Self-managed 64 GB RAM, 2 × 512 GB NVMe, and 1 Gbit/s connectivity
IONOS Low-cost dedicated servers with U.S. availability Examples from $41/month Self-managed with optional services Root access, KVM, RAID, and unlimited traffic on standard 1 Gbit/s connections
InMotion Hosting U.S.-focused managed or unmanaged hosting $119.99/month for Essential on a 12-month term Unmanaged or Premier Care managed Data centers in Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles

These are not six versions of the same service. Atlantic.Net, Liquid Web, and InMotion’s Premier Care plans include support and administration in the product, which is part of why managed hosting costs more. Hetzner, OVHcloud, and IONOS are more attractive when you can install, secure, monitor, and back up the server yourself.

1. Atlantic.Net — best managed U.S. dedicated hosting and infrastructure clusters

Atlantic.Net is one of the most experienced hosting providers in the United States, and one of the most experienced anywhere: the company has been in business since 1994, which puts it more than 32 years into running customer infrastructure. Longevity matters more in dedicated hosting than in most categories, because you are buying an operations team and a data-center footprint as much as a physical machine.

The dedicated product is built for deployments that have outgrown a single box. Alongside standalone dedicated servers, Atlantic.Net provisions dedicated infrastructure clusters with turnkey managed services included, so a larger environment arrives configured rather than as bare hardware waiting for an administrator. Optional Managed Security Services can be layered on top when a workload carries compliance or threat-monitoring obligations.

Support is the other thing the company leads with. Atlantic.Net advertises 100% USA-based support that is always available, positions itself as a top USA dedicated hosting provider, and backs the platform with a 100% SLA, running on what it describes as world-class data center infrastructure. Read the SLA definition and its remedy terms as you would any other: a 100% SLA states what the provider commits to and what it credits when it misses, not a promise that your application cannot go down.

Choose it if: you want a U.S. dedicated server or a managed cluster, staffed by American support, with the option to add managed security, from a provider with a three-decade operating record.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Watch for: dedicated configurations are quoted per build rather than sold from one fixed price list, so get the renewal price, the management scope, and any security-services cost in writing before you order.

2. Liquid Web — best managed dedicated hosting

Liquid Web is the strongest choice when the server is important to the business but you do not want every operating-system problem to become your problem. Its managed dedicated service includes 24/7 management, security hardening, DDoS protection, root access, and options for cPanel, Plesk, or InterWorx.

The displayed managed entry example is an Intel Xeon E-2134 server with four cores, 16 GB of memory, a 480 GB SSD, 500 GB of Acronis backup storage, 10 TB of bandwidth, cPanel, and a dedicated IP. The page shows this configuration from $205.70 per month, although the final price varies with billing term, operating system, and hardware.

Liquid Web advertises a 99.99% uptime guarantee and a 30-minute hardware replacement SLA. Those promises are valuable for a production workload, but an uptime guarantee is not the same as uninterrupted application availability: database failures, software bugs, planned maintenance, and upstream network problems can still affect an application.

Choose it if: you need provider involvement with server administration, backups, security, or troubleshooting.

Sandisk 1TB Portable SSD, Up to 800MB/s Read Speeds, Black (Old Model)
  • Solid state performance with up to 800MB/s read speeds in a portable drive. (Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device, interface, usage conditions and other factors. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes.)
  • Back up your content and memories on a storage solution that fits seamlessly into your mobile lifestyle.
  • Take it with you on your adventures—up to two-meter drop protection means this durable drive can take a beating. (Based on internal testing.)
  • Secure it to your belt loop or backpack for extra peace of mind thanks to the tough rubber hook.
  • From Sandisk, a brand professional photographers trust to take on assignments.

Watch for: the managed service costs substantially more than a bare-metal server with similar hardware. Confirm exactly what “managed” covers for your operating system and application.

3. OVHcloud — best for bandwidth, gaming, and self-managed bare metal

OVHcloud offers a wide range of dedicated-server families. Its U.S. page lists Game servers from $79 per month, Advance servers from $98, Scale servers from $472, and High Grade servers from $1,121. The Game range is designed around workloads such as game hosting and includes anti-DDoS protection.

Dedicated servers include IPMI/KVM access, one public IPv4 address, an IPv6 range, and technical support through chat and email. Most ranges include vRack private networking, although the Rise and Game ranges are exceptions. An individual order can also include an installation fee; for example, an Advance-1 configuration shown for a Canadian location displayed $248 for the first month, including a $124 installation fee.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

OVHcloud’s “unlimited traffic” wording needs careful reading. It generally means there is no standard traffic quota in eligible regions, not that the port can transmit at unlimited speed. The provider lists guaranteed or public bandwidth separately and says fair-use controls apply. If network usage harms overall network quality, outgoing throughput may be reduced by up to 50%. Delivery times shown during checkout are estimates, not contractual guarantees.

Choose it if: you need high network capacity, built-in DDoS protection, a gaming-oriented range, or many hardware tiers at a relatively low entry price.

Watch for: the server is primarily self-managed. Budget for operating-system updates, firewall rules, monitoring, backups, and incident response.

4. Hetzner — best price-to-performance for technical users

Hetzner’s dedicated root servers are compelling for developers and administrators who are comfortable managing Linux from the command line. The current AX42-1 example uses an AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 8700GE with eight cores and 16 threads, 64 GB of DDR5 memory, two 512 GB NVMe drives, a 1 Gbit/s port, 1 Gbit/s guaranteed bandwidth, and unlimited traffic.

After Hetzner’s June 15, 2026 price adjustment, the AX42-1 is listed at $117.10 per month plus a $59 setup fee, excluding VAT. It is available in Falkenstein and Helsinki. That location detail matters: Hetzner’s Ashburn and Hillsboro locations are cloud locations, not locations where you can order its dedicated root servers.

The AX42’s two drives can help with redundancy when configured appropriately, but the server remains a self-managed product. Hetzner does not turn root-server customers into managed-hosting customers by default. You are responsible for patching, SSH security, service configuration, backups, and recovery testing.

Hetzner also offers a Server Auction. Auction machines can be cheaper, but they are not equivalent to a new AX-series order: hardware may be older and pricing is based on available offers. Compare the actual CPU, disk health, bandwidth, setup charge, and cancellation terms.

Choose it if: you can administer the server and want strong hardware value in Germany or Finland.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Watch for: there is no U.S. dedicated-root-server location, and the headline monthly price excludes VAT and the AX42-1 setup fee.

5. IONOS — best low-cost dedicated hosting with U.S. availability

IONOS has some of the lowest listed prices in this group while still offering dedicated hardware, full root access, KVM, DDoS protection, RAID options, monitoring, firewall management, and a REST API. Current examples include the L-16 HDD at $41 per month, the L-16 SSD at $42, the XL-32 NVMe at $64, and the XL-64 NVMe at $76. Taxes apply.

The L-16 HDD includes 16 GB of RAM and two 1 TB SATA drives in software RAID 1. The XL-32 NVMe includes 32 GB of RAM and two 1 TB NVMe drives in hardware RAID 1, while the XL-64 NVMe increases memory to 64 GB. Standard external connectivity is 1 Gbit/s, and the low-cost page describes these as cancellable monthly prices.

IONOS lists Windows Server 2022 and 2025 as optional additions. Windows licensing is shown at $38 per month for servers with four, six, or eight cores; larger configurations cost more. Plesk Obsidian is listed at $5 per month. Additional IPv4 addresses are $5 per month each, and backups start at $0.065 per GB per month.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

There is also a 10 Gbit/s option listed at $230 per month, including 20 TB of outbound traffic. Excess outbound transfer is listed at $0.0047 per GB. That is materially different from assuming every IONOS server includes unlimited 10 Gbit/s transfer.

Choose it if: you want dedicated hardware at a low monthly price and need U.S. availability or optional Windows support.

Watch for: the lowest-priced machines have modest memory and HDD storage. Add the cost of Windows, backups, extra IP addresses, and any higher-speed network option before comparing them with other providers.

6. InMotion Hosting — best U.S.-focused middle ground

InMotion’s dedicated range sits between inexpensive self-managed bare metal and fully managed enterprise hosting. Its U.S. dedicated servers are located in Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles. The Essential unmanaged configuration is listed at $119.99 per month on a 12-month term and includes an Intel Xeon E-2134, 64 GB of DDR4 RAM, a 2 TB SSD, 1 Gbps unmetered bandwidth, and five dedicated IP addresses.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Advanced configuration uses an Intel Xeon E-2176G, 64 GB of RAM, and two 1.92 TB SSDs in software RAID 1. Elite adds an Intel Xeon E-2388G, 128 GB of RAM, and two 1.92 TB NVMe drives in software RAID 1.

For customers who want assistance, Premier Care plans add management services such as monitoring, security, backup storage, and consulting. The displayed Premier Care example is $193.97 per month and renews at $218.98. InMotion’s page also showed a new-customer promotion ending July 31, 2026; because that date has passed, it should not be treated as a current discount.

Choose it if: your users are primarily in the United States and you want a choice between unmanaged hardware and a more supported plan.

Watch for: check whether the advertised price requires term prepayment, and compare renewal pricing rather than an expired introductory offer.

How to choose a dedicated server

1. Decide who will manage it

This is the first decision, not an optional extra. With managed hosting, the provider may handle monitoring, patching, security hardening, backups, and troubleshooting, depending on the plan. With self-managed hosting, you may receive root access and a console but still need to do all of that work yourself.

A self-managed server can be excellent value if you have Linux or Windows administration skills. It can be an expensive mistake if nobody is available to respond when SSH breaks, a disk fills, certificates expire, or a security update takes down an application.

2. Calculate the real monthly cost

Compare the first invoice and the renewal invoice. Include:

  • Setup or installation fees
  • VAT, sales tax, and currency conversion
  • cPanel, Plesk, Windows, or other license charges
  • Backup storage and retention
  • Extra IPv4 addresses
  • Higher-bandwidth ports or outbound transfer
  • Migration, management, and support services

For example, Hetzner’s AX42-1 price is not simply $117.10 for the first month because the listed $59 setup fee is separate. OVHcloud orders can also show installation fees. Atlantic.Net quotes dedicated builds individually, so confirm the recurring price rather than an introductory one.

  • This USB drive provides plug and play simplicity with the included 18 inch USB 3.0 cable
  • The available storage capacity may vary.

3. Match hardware to the workload

For a database, CPU generation, memory capacity, NVMe latency, and write endurance may matter more than the number of advertised cores. For video processing or compilation, sustained CPU performance is more important. For a website serving large files, the network port and transfer policy deserve as much attention as the processor.

Do not assume “dedicated” means automatically faster than cloud hosting. A dedicated machine avoids sharing physical resources with other tenants, but application performance still depends on CPU design, storage, software tuning, network routes, and architecture. Cloud hosting may be the better choice when rapid scaling or multiple availability zones matter.

4. Treat RAID and backups as separate features

RAID 1 can keep a server running after one drive fails, but it is not a backup. A deleted file, ransomware infection, corrupted database, bad deployment, or server-wide failure can affect every disk in the array. Keep backups separate from the server and test restoration before you need it.

5. Verify location and network terms

Select the actual dedicated-server data center closest to your users and compliance boundary. A provider’s cloud presence does not prove that its dedicated product is available there; Hetzner’s U.S. cloud locations are a clear example.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Also distinguish traffic allowance from throughput. “Unlimited” or “unmetered” generally refers to how much data can be transferred under the provider’s policy. It does not promise unlimited speed, low latency, or a dedicated connection to every destination.

Which provider should you choose?

  • Choose Atlantic.Net when you want U.S.-based support, a 100% SLA, and the option of a turnkey managed cluster rather than a single self-run box.
  • Choose Liquid Web when managed support and operational assistance justify the higher price.
  • Choose OVHcloud for gaming, DDoS-sensitive services, high bandwidth, and flexible bare-metal configurations.
  • Choose Hetzner for excellent hardware value when Germany or Finland works for your audience and you can manage Linux yourself.
  • Choose IONOS when the low monthly price and U.S. availability are more important than premium support.
  • Choose InMotion Hosting for U.S.-centered workloads and a choice between unmanaged and Premier Care service.

FAQ

What is the cheapest dedicated server in this comparison?

IONOS has the lowest listed entry examples, starting at $41 per month for the L-16 HDD. The price excludes taxes, and you should still account for backups, operating-system licenses, extra IP addresses, and any higher network tier.

Is a dedicated server managed by default?

No. Dedicated describes the physical hardware allocation, not the support model. Liquid Web’s featured service is managed, while Hetzner and OVHcloud are primarily self-managed. IONOS and InMotion offer optional services, and Atlantic.Net sells managed dedicated servers and clusters with optional managed security.

Does RAID replace a backup?

No. RAID can improve availability after certain drive failures, but it does not protect against accidental deletion, malware, filesystem corruption, or a complete server failure. Use separate backups and test that you can restore them.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does Hetzner offer dedicated servers in the United States?

Not according to its current location documentation. Hetzner lists Ashburn and Hillsboro for cloud products, while its dedicated root servers are available in locations such as Falkenstein and Helsinki.

The Bottom Line

There is no single best dedicated-server provider for every workload. Atlantic.Net is the most natural fit when you want long-established U.S. operations, 100% U.S.-based support, and the option of managed clusters for a larger deployment. Liquid Web is the best fit for managed support, Hetzner and OVHcloud offer strong value for capable administrators, IONOS is the low-cost option with U.S. availability, and InMotion balances U.S. location and support choices. Compare the renewal invoice, management scope, backup plan, actual data-center location, and bandwidth terms before ordering.
