A compact travel router can connect to a hotel’s Wi-Fi in repeater mode and rebroadcast it as a private local network for your devices. Of the models documented here, the GL.iNet Beryl AX (GL-MT3000) is the clearest compact option to compare: its manufacturer publishes current specifications and a hotel-relevant repeater setup guide. The GL.iNet Slate AX (GL-AXT1800) is another documented choice, but the cited comparison figures are from a 2023 catalog. Neither model has independent hotel-performance results established here, and a hotel’s sign-in flow or device rules can affect whether a router works.
What a travel router can do at a hotel
In repeater mode, a travel router joins an existing Wi-Fi network and creates a local wireless network for your own devices. GL.iNet documents a repeater setup for the Beryl AX; that documentation explains the mode, not guaranteed compatibility with every hotel network. GL.iNet’s Beryl AX repeater guide is the relevant setup reference.
Hotels may require you to authenticate through a sign-in page, limit the number of connected devices, or use network settings that the router cannot accommodate. You may need to complete the property’s authentication flow, and success is not assured. There is no basis here to claim that either model has been tested across hotel chains or countries.

Which one should you choose?
Choose Beryl AX when current, detailed specifications matter
Beryl AX is the more straightforward choice if you want a documented repeater setup, clearly listed dimensions and weight, and both WAN and LAN Ethernet ports with stated link speeds. Its 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz figures describe manufacturer-published Wi-Fi rates; they do not predict the internet speed a hotel will deliver.
Consider Slate AX if its port layout suits your setup
The cited catalog lists Slate AX with two LAN ports as well as a WAN port, which may be useful when you want to connect more than one wired device. Its cited wireless rates are from 2023, and the source does not give port speeds, dimensions, weight, or power requirements. Verify those details and whether the model is currently sold in your region before deciding.

There is no independent head-to-head hotel test among these sources, so neither router can be called the tested fastest or universally best. Compare the physical size, port layout, power needs, and setup documentation against the way you travel and the network access you expect to have.

How to connect a travel router to hotel Wi-Fi
- Check the hotel’s Wi-Fi terms and whether its network requires a sign-in portal or limits connected devices. A router’s repeater mode does not override the property’s policies.
- Power the router and open its configuration interface. For Beryl AX, follow GL.iNet’s repeater setup guide to select the hotel network and configure the connection.
- Complete any hotel authentication the router presents or directs you to. The sign-in process varies by property, so the documented mode does not ensure that every portal will work.
- Connect your devices to the local wireless network created by the router, then confirm that they can access the internet. If the hotel’s network policy or login flow blocks the connection, use the hotel’s supported device-connection method instead.
What to pack and verify before an international trip
Beryl AX specifies USB-C input at 5V/3A. Check the package contents and bring a suitable power source if one is not included; the cited specification does not say which adapters come with every regional package. A short Ethernet cable is an optional addition for lodging that provides wired Ethernet.

Check current manufacturer guidance for both your destination and the specific model rather than assuming that a router will work everywhere. GL.iNet says Beryl AX comes with OpenVPN and WireGuard support and supports more than 30 VPN services on its product page. These are manufacturer claims about device capability. They do not mean a paid VPN subscription is included, establish compatibility with every provider or configuration, or guarantee security on every network. Check the VPN provider’s own setup requirements before relying on router-level VPN use.
