For a small channel that wants original stories to play continuously on YouTube without leaving a computer running, StreamNeo is the simplest fit: upload your recordings, add your YouTube stream key, and go live from the cloud. Castr is the clearest researched alternative for scheduling a broader mix of videos, recordings, and live streams; Gyre focuses on looping prerecorded video; TVU Channel is aimed at broadcast-style playout; and AWS Elemental MediaLive is a configurable encoding component, not a turnkey creator scheduling service.

A 24/7 live feed is only one way to publish children’s stories. It adds operational and content-policy considerations, and the available sources do not establish that continuous streaming will grow views or revenue. If your audience is better served by individual episodes or occasional scheduled premieres, ordinary YouTube uploads may be simpler.

Which cloud playout option fits a small storytelling channel?

Choose based on the job you need done. “Cloud playout” can mean scheduling a continuous lineup, looping uploaded files, or encoding a live feed; those are related but not interchangeable capabilities.

Option Best fit YouTube evidence What to check
StreamNeo Keeping uploaded stories in an always-on YouTube stream with a simple cloud workflow. StreamNeo is a YouTube-only service that loops uploaded videos. See StreamNeo. Each slot includes 10 GB storage, pooled across active slots; check that your files fit.

Gyre Looping prerecorded video continuously in the cloud. YouTube’s encoder help lists Gyre for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming. YouTube encoder help. Confirm current price, resolution, concurrent-stream limits, restart behavior, and archive implications.
TVU Channel A broader broadcast-oriented cloud scheduling and playout workflow. Its product page describes distribution to multiple platforms, but the reviewed page does not establish a YouTube-specific workflow. TVU Channel. Ask the vendor whether the product fits a small creator, supports your YouTube workflow, and what it costs.
AWS Elemental MediaLive A technical cloud-encoding component for a custom workflow with scheduled or dynamic input switching. YouTube lists MediaLive as a verified encoder. YouTube encoder help. It is not a packaged playout scheduler; configuration, operations, and total usage cost need estimating.

What to check before putting children’s stories on a continuous live feed

Meet YouTube’s live-stream requirements

YouTube requires a verified channel with live streaming enabled and no live-streaming restriction during the previous 90 days. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours. A cloud service does not bypass these requirements. YouTube says live content must comply with its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service; it may age-restrict or remove a stream, or restrict a creator’s ability to live stream. See YouTube’s live-stream help.

Use content you have the rights to stream

Being the creator of a story does not automatically clear every element in its production. Before scheduling a story, check that you have permission for the narration, music, sound effects, illustrations, animation, and any other material included. A playout service carries your files; it does not grant rights or override YouTube’s policies. YouTube’s live-stream rules apply regardless of which encoder or cloud service sends the feed.

Decide whether 24/7 is useful for your audience

A continuous channel can make a lineup available without manually starting each broadcast, but the reviewed sources do not establish that always-on streaming improves discovery, views, watch time, or monetization. For a small children’s channel, consider whether parents and children can find the right story easily, whether a live format suits the material, and whether a playlist or scheduled individual uploads would be easier to manage.

How the researched alternatives differ

Castr: managed scheduling for a mixed lineup

Castr says users can schedule uploaded videos, recordings, and live streams into one continuous channel. Its product page describes schedule and loop modes, live-stream insertion, changes to a schedule while it is running, and output to YouTube, among other destinations. Castr says every plan includes one playout channel, while file, loop, and output limits vary by tier. Check the current plan’s exact constraints before building a schedule around them. At the time the pricing page was accessed on October 3, 2026, Castr listed Starter at $19.99 monthly, or $16.67 per month when billed annually ($199.99 billed yearly). The page showed two concurrent streams on monthly billing or three on annual billing, six destinations, 200 GB monthly bandwidth or a 2.4 TB upfront annual pool, and 100 GB hosted-video storage. Castr positioned Starter for a small team running one or two live channels. These are vendor-published, time-sensitive figures—not a like-for-like comparison with a per-slot playout service. Verify the current terms, what “streams” and destinations mean for your use, and whether bandwidth, storage, and playout limits cover the intended schedule. Castr plans and pricing.

Gyre: focused on continuous prerecorded video

YouTube’s encoder guidance lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded-video live streaming. Gyre describes looping playlists, scheduling broadcasts, and running them in the cloud without a dedicated PC. Those details make it a relevant candidate when the main requirement is continuous prerecorded playback. Gyre’s claims about audience growth or increased viewing are vendor marketing, not established outcomes for your channel. Confirm current pricing, supported quality, stream limits, and operational details with the service. Gyre.

TVU Channel: broader broadcast-style playout

TVU describes cloud scheduling and playout for channels, including live programming and distribution to broadcast, OTT, apps, and social destinations. That points to a wider broadcast workflow than a small story channel may need. The reviewed product page does not establish public pricing, small-creator eligibility, or a specific YouTube destination workflow, so qualify those points directly with TVU before treating it as a practical fit. TVU Channel.

AWS Elemental MediaLive: encoding, not a ready-made story scheduler

AWS describes MediaLive as a managed cloud service for live video encoding and high-availability workflows, with support for multiple inputs and scheduled or dynamic input switching. YouTube lists it among verified encoders. MediaLive can be part of a custom playout system, but a small channel should not assume that the encoder alone supplies a complete playlist scheduler and operating workflow. AWS says total cost depends on selected inputs, outputs, and add-on features. Assess the technical assembly and ongoing operations as well as the usage estimate. Compare total cost and workload, not just a headline price

Playout subscriptions and cloud-encoding usage charges do not necessarily include the same functions or use the same billing unit. Before choosing, write down the schedule and operating requirements you actually need:

  • How many hours the stream should run and whether it is continuous or scheduled for specific windows.
  • How many outputs or destinations you need; this is not the same as the number of files in a playlist.
  • Required video quality, storage for uploaded stories, and any bandwidth or stream limits.
  • Whether the service schedules files and manages looping, or only encodes a feed assembled elsewhere.
  • What happens if YouTube drops the connection and what recovery behavior the service provides.
  • Who will monitor the stream, update the lineup, and handle a failed file or schedule change.

For AWS, include the selected inputs, outputs, and add-ons in the estimate; AWS explicitly says those components determine total MediaLive channel cost. For a packaged plan, check the current tier limits and billing period rather than assuming a displayed monthly equivalent is billed monthly.

Troubleshooting a cloud playout setup

The channel cannot start a live stream

Check that the YouTube channel is verified, live streaming is enabled, and no live-streaming restriction applies from the previous 90 days. If this is the first enablement, allow up to 24 hours. Review YouTube’s current requirements at YouTube live-stream help.

The service connects, but YouTube does not receive a usable feed

Recheck the YouTube stream URL and stream key in the playout service, and confirm that the chosen service and plan support the required output. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses the URL and key supplied by YouTube. Avoid sharing the key; if it is exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the service with the new key. See YouTube encoder guidance.

A file will not play or the schedule cannot be saved

Check the service’s current file-format, file-size, storage, scheduling, and output limits. These vary by product and, for Castr, by plan. Confirm the playlist has a valid file and that the schedule’s times and order are correct; if you need live insertions or mid-run edits, verify that the selected service and tier support them.

YouTube removes or restricts the stream

Review the reason shown in YouTube Studio and check the stream against YouTube’s Community Guidelines, Terms of Service, and applicable rights. Switching playout services does not remove a content-policy restriction. YouTube may age-restrict or remove live content or restrict live-stream access. YouTube live-stream help.

The stream stops unexpectedly

Check the YouTube stream status, the service’s connection and recovery logs, and whether the selected plan permits the required number of concurrent streams or outputs. Recovery behavior differs by product; do not assume every service retries in the same way. For an always-on workflow, verify restart behavior with the provider before relying on it unattended.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does YouTube endorse every service listed in its encoder help?

No. YouTube’s help page identifies encoder tools, but that listing is not a guarantee of uninterrupted service, audience growth, monetization, or endorsement of every workflow.

Can a cloud playout service make a story eligible for monetization?

The sources reviewed do not establish monetization eligibility. Follow YouTube’s current policies and check the channel’s eligibility in YouTube Studio.
