The best Chrome extension for a web developer depends on the job: use React Developer Tools to inspect React apps, Lighthouse for automated audits, and focused tools for requests, JSON, colors, or technology lookups. No single extension is established as a universal winner. Check the current Chrome Web Store listing, publisher, permissions, and compatibility before installing.

Choose an extension for the task you need to do

Extensions can add specialized views or actions to Chrome, but they are not automatically better than browser features you already have. Start with the task, then decide whether an extension fills a real gap.

Task Extension to consider What the available listing says
Inspect or profile a React app React Developer Tools Adds Components and Profiler tabs to Chrome DevTools, where developers can inspect the component hierarchy and view or edit current props and state. Chrome Web Store
Run an automated quality audit Lighthouse Described by the Chrome Web Store developer category as an open-source automated tool for improving web app performance, quality, and correctness. Chrome Web Store
Identify a site’s technology BuiltWith Technology Profiler The developer category lists it for website technology identification. Chrome Web Store
Intercept or modify HTTP(S) requests Requestly The category lists it for HTTP(S) request interception and modification. Chrome Web Store
Format or analyze JSON JSON Viewer Pro The category lists it for JSON formatting and analysis. Chrome Web Store
Pick a color from a page Eye Dropper The category lists it as a color-picking tool. Chrome Web Store
Use a general developer toolbar Web Developer The category describes it as a toolbar of developer tools. Chrome Web Store
Debug or profile an Angular app Angular DevTools The category lists it for Angular-specific debugging and profiling. Chrome Web Store

These descriptions identify intended use, not a comparative quality ranking. Verify the exact current listing and publisher before you install; names and listings can change.

React debugging: React Developer Tools

For a React application, React Developer Tools is the focused choice in this shortlist. Its Chrome Web Store listing says it adds Components and Profiler tabs to Chrome DevTools. Use the Components view to inspect the component hierarchy and view or edit current props and state; use the Profiler view when you need to examine application profiling information.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

It is a React-specific aid, not a general-purpose page inspector. For non-React pages or browser-level debugging, use the relevant Chrome DevTools panels instead.

Automated audits: Lighthouse

Lighthouse is presented in the Chrome Web Store developer category as an open-source automated tool for improving web application performance, quality, and correctness. It can provide an audit starting point, but an automated report is not a substitute for manual diagnosis or broader testing of the page and its user journeys.

Should you install a separate Lighthouse extension?

The available listing information establishes Lighthouse as an audit tool, but does not establish current feature parity between a separate Lighthouse extension and the Lighthouse capability available through Chrome DevTools. Check current official documentation and the live listing for the version and workflow you intend to use; do not assume the two are interchangeable.

BuiltWith Technology Profiler is listed for identifying website technologies. Treat an identification as a clue to investigate rather than a complete account of a site’s architecture.

Accessibility checks: treat extensions as complements

axe DevTools and WAVE appear in accessibility-tool roundups as options to evaluate. The official details for their individual listings are not established here, so confirm current features, publisher identity, permissions, and compatibility on each live listing before choosing one. An extension-based check should complement—not stand in for—accessibility testing of the actual interface and user flows.

How to choose and install safely

  1. Define the task. Decide whether you need framework inspection, an audit, accessibility checks, technology identification, request testing, color sampling, or JSON readability.
  2. Check built-in DevTools first. If Chrome already supports the job you need, an additional extension may not be necessary.
  3. Open the current Chrome Web Store listing. Confirm the exact name, publisher or developer identity, stated purpose, and compatibility information rather than relying on a search snippet or an old recommendation.
  4. Review permissions and site access. Install only if the requested access makes sense for the task and the sites where you plan to use it.
  5. Reassess periodically. Listings, permissions, compatibility, ratings, and pricing can change; verify current details when you install or revisit a tool.

Screenshot a page without adding a browser extension

If your developer task is capturing a website as an image or PDF, ScreenshotNeo is an alternative to try first: its API returns a screenshot or PDF from one GET request, and only clean shots are billed. It also offers an MCP server for AI agents. See ScreenshotNeo and its API documentation.

Or skip the browser setup

Send a URL to the API and save the returned image. Replace the URL as needed:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners before capture and removes 60+ known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers indicate the page verdict and billing. AI agents can use its MCP server. The free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.
