There is no single camera phone that is best for every photographer. In the expert guides available on September 15, 2026, the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra leads Amateur Photographer’s overall picks, while TechRadar names the iPhone 17 Pro Max its top overall choice. The Google Pixel 10 Pro XL is the strongest fit here for computational photography and guided shooting. Choose by the work you actually do—and note that TechRadar says the newer iPhone 18 Pro and Pixel 11 could change its rankings.
Best camera phones in 2026 at a glance
| Phone | Best for | Why it stands out | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra | Flexible zoom and Android shooting | Four listed rear cameras, including dedicated 3x and 5x telephoto cameras; 8K and high-frame-rate 4K video options. | Amateur Photographer calls it very expensive, a modest upgrade over its predecessor, and weak at macro photography. [Amateur Photographer] |
| Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max | Balanced stills, consistent video, and creator capture | TechRadar praises its lifelike stills and smooth, reliable video; Creative Bloq lists ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2, and Dual Capture. [TechRadar] [Creative Bloq] | Creative Bloq flags its high price and says Camera Control needs refinement. |
| Google Pixel 10 Pro XL | Computational photography and shooting guidance | TechRadar highlights Camera Coach, portrait rendering, and natural-looking digital zoom. [TechRadar] | That reviewer reports occasional camera-app stalls, particularly after switching to 50MP resolution or using night mode; experiences may vary by device and software. |
These are use-case recommendations, not a universal lab ranking. Amateur Photographer and TechRadar name different overall winners, and each guide reflects its own review scope and cutoff date.
Which phone should you choose?
Choose the Galaxy S26 Ultra for reach and camera flexibility
The S26 Ultra is the clearest fit if you frequently move between wide scenes and distant subjects without changing devices. Amateur Photographer lists a 200MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 50MP ultrawide, a 10MP 3x telephoto with OIS, and a 50MP 5x telephoto with OIS. It also lists an autofocus 12MP selfie camera, 8K recording at 24 or 30 fps, and 4K at 30, 60, or 120 fps. These are the guide’s specifications; regional configurations should be checked before buying.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The separate 3x and 5x cameras give it the broadest explicitly listed multi-camera focal coverage among these three picks. That does not make it the best choice for every frame: the same review criticizes its macro performance, high price, and limited generational improvement.

Choose the iPhone 17 Pro Max for dependable video and a creator workflow
TechRadar’s overall pick is the iPhone 17 Pro Max, particularly for balanced still rendering and smooth, reliable video in its review. Creative Bloq lists three 48MP rear cameras—wide, ultrawide, and telephoto—plus an 18MP Center Stage front camera. Its listed video capabilities include 4K at 24, 30, 60, and 120 fps, ProRes RAW, and Apple Log 2. Creative Bloq says the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max share the upgraded camera system, so the Max is not the only size with those camera features.
Creative Bloq also highlights simultaneous front- and rear-camera Dual Capture as useful for creators filming themselves and their surroundings. If you mainly take still photos, do not read TechRadar’s overall ranking as proof that the iPhone wins every photographic situation; the guide’s particular praise is for its balance and video consistency.

Choose the Pixel 10 Pro XL for computational tools and assistance

Amateur Photographer also names the Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL its best AI phone overall.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →The caveat is responsiveness. TechRadar’s reviewer reports occasional camera-app stalls, especially after switching to 50MP photos or using night mode, and says some shots were missed while waiting. That is a reviewer’s experience, not evidence that every handset or software version will behave the same way. If you often need to capture fleeting moments, app responsiveness matters as much as image processing.

How to compare camera phones for your photography
- Check focal-length coverage, not just megapixels. A phone with dedicated ultrawide and telephoto cameras offers different framing options from one that depends more on digital zoom. Megapixel counts alone do not determine practical image quality.
- Consider the subjects you shoot. Distant action, night scenes, portraits, close-ups, and wide landscapes place different demands on a camera system. The S26 Ultra’s listed telephotos suit flexible reach; the cited guides identify different strengths for macro and night shooting elsewhere.
- Evaluate video as a workflow. Resolution and frame rate are only part of the decision. Reliable capture, front-and-rear recording, and formats such as ProRes RAW or Apple Log 2 matter if you plan to edit footage after shooting.
- Pay attention to the camera app. A delay can cost a shot, especially in night mode or at high resolution. Features such as Camera Coach may help with framing, while reported stalls are a practical concern for time-sensitive scenes.
- Match the phone to your editing and platform needs. Consider the capture formats you can edit, the operating system you prefer, and whether you will actually use advanced video options.
- Try the size and controls if possible. A large phone can be harder to hold steadily or operate one-handed. Creative Bloq also says Camera Control needs refinement, so handling preferences may matter as much as a specification sheet.
How current are these 2026 recommendations?
The guides informing this shortlist were published on September 11 and September 15, 2026, alongside Creative Bloq’s camera-phone coverage. TechRadar’s September 11 guide explicitly notes that the iPhone 18 Pro and Pixel 11 launches could disrupt its list. As a result, these recommendations describe the reviewed comparisons available at that cutoff—not a completed head-to-head verdict on every phone released in 2026. Rankings, local availability, and regional configurations can change.
