Best Buy is reported to have ranked first among appliance retailers in J.D. Power’s 2026 Appliance Satisfaction Study, ahead of Costco and The Home Depot. The ranking is reported by a secondary source; an original J.D. Power release confirming the 2026 appliance results was not available to verify it. This is a retailer-satisfaction ranking, not a rating of appliance performance.
What the reported 2026 appliance-retailer ranking says
The secondary report lists Best Buy first, Costco second and The Home Depot third among appliance retailers. It gives them respective scores of 726, 718 and 714 on a 1,000-point scale. Those figures should be treated as reported, not independently confirmed J.D. Power results, until the organization publishes or otherwise makes available its original 2026 appliance-study findings.

J.D. Power’s official 2026 U.S. Home Improvement Retailer Satisfaction Study is a separate ranking from the appliance-retailer study. In that home-improvement ranking, Menards scored 690 and placed first, The Home Depot scored 679 and placed second, and the overall category average was 672 on a 1,000-point scale. The study surveyed 2,231 customers who had bought home-improvement products in the preceding 12 months and was fielded from March 2025 through March 2026. J.D. Power’s official 2026 home-improvement study release describes that study, not the reported appliance-retailer ranking.

The home-improvement study assessed additional services, digital tools, trust, people, products and supplies, return policy and process, store and facility, and value for price paid. Its findings should not be used to confirm who led the appliance-retailer study.
How the appliance-retailer leaders have changed
The reported 2026 result would make Best Buy the latest leader in a category whose top retailer has changed in recent editions. J.D. Power’s official releases name Costco as the 2024 appliance-retailer leader and The Home Depot as the 2025 leader.

J.D. Power’s 2025 U.S. Appliance Satisfaction Study release reports 15,884 evaluations from recent appliance purchasers, collected from July 2024 through April 2025. The study covered 12 major-appliance segments as well as appliance retailers; The Home Depot scored 700 among retailers, ahead of Best Buy at 689. The 2024 U.S. Appliance Satisfaction Study release reports Costco at 718 and The Home Depot at 716 among retailers. Scores are edition-specific, so treat them as within-study comparisons rather than a simple measure of improvement or decline across years.
