There is no evidence-backed single “best” budget VPS for a 24/7 YouTube rain stream in India. The right low-cost choice depends first on whether the VPS will simply relay an already-encoded stream or encode the rain video itself. For a Mumbai-hosted candidate, Amazon Lightsail is worth checking, but AWS says Mumbai plans include half the transfer allowance shown in its general bundle figures. DigitalOcean is another VPS candidate, but the official pages reviewed here do not establish an India-region option or its regional transfer terms.
Before choosing a plan, work out the continuous bitrate and monthly data transfer, then verify the provider’s region, price, allowance, CPU and memory. A plan’s published specifications do not prove it can encode continuously or guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast.
Start by deciding whether the VPS relays or encodes
Relay an already-encoded stream
A relay forwards a stream that has already been encoded elsewhere. Its resource demands differ from running an encoder, but bandwidth and provider transfer limits still matter. Confirm that the chosen software and VPS setup support the relay workflow you intend to use.

Encoding means the VPS runs software such as FFmpeg or OBS to turn the source video into a live stream. Do not assume an entry-level plan can sustain this workload from its advertised vCPU and memory alone: the available provider evidence does not establish continuous encoding performance. Test the actual source, settings and instance before relying on it.

Set a bitrate that fits the scene and transfer allowance
YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends H.264 video at 3 Mbps for 720p/30 fps and 5 Mbps for 1080p/30 fps. These are ingest recommendations, not a promise that every rain video will look good at those settings; assess the footage and monitor YouTube’s stream health. For a nonstop stream, even a modest bitrate accumulates substantial outbound traffic. As a rough planning formula, multiply the stream bitrate in megabits per second by 10.8 to estimate decimal gigabytes transferred per 24 hours, before protocol overhead. At 3 Mbps, that is about 32.4 GB per day, or about 972 GB over 30 days; at 5 Mbps, about 54 GB per day, or 1,620 GB over 30 days. These are arithmetic estimates, not provider measurements. Check whether the host counts outbound traffic, how overages or throttling work, and whether the allowance resets monthly.

Use YouTube-compatible encoder settings
- Ingest protocol: RTMP or RTMPS.
- Rate control: CBR.
- Video codec: YouTube lists H.264, H.265 and AV1 as supported options; use the codec your encoder and planned workflow can reliably provide.
- Audio codec: AAC or MP3.
- Keyframes: YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe frequency and says not to exceed four seconds.
- Resolution and frame rate: choose for the source and desired visual result, then set a matching bitrate and verify stream health rather than assuming a rain scene needs the same settings as fast action.
These settings come from YouTube’s encoder guidance. The VPS must maintain a stable upstream connection with the recommended headroom for the stream’s bitrate.

AWS and DigitalOcean provide concrete candidates to investigate, but the available official information does not support a performance ranking or a definitive best plan for this specific 24/7 workload.

These are provider-published specifications, not independent benchmarks. Prices and regional terms can change; check the linked provider pages before purchase. Compare the exact region, recurring monthly cost, included transfer, CPU and memory, and whether the workload encodes on the VPS.
Test the actual stream before depending on it
- Choose the workload: decide whether the instance relays an encoded feed or runs the encoder.
- Estimate transfer: calculate from the bitrate and compare the result with the region-specific monthly allowance, leaving room for overhead.
- Check current plan terms: verify the selected location, price, transfer policy, CPU and memory directly with the provider.
- Run a representative test: use the rain footage, resolution, frame rate, codec and bitrate intended for the live channel. Observe CPU and memory use, network stability and YouTube stream health over a sustained period.
- Validate recovery: test what happens after a process or connection interruption, and decide how you will detect and restart a failed stream. Do not treat a provider’s VPS listing as an uptime guarantee.
Keep the YouTube channel eligible and the stream rights-cleared
Using a VPS does not change YouTube’s rules for live content. Use rain footage and audio you own or have permission to stream, and check the channel’s live-streaming access and status in YouTube Studio before scheduling a long broadcast. A looping or pre-recorded stream should still offer genuine viewer value; do not assume that repeating footage automatically satisfies YouTube’s monetization policies on reused or repetitive content. Review YouTube’s live encoder requirements and the current YouTube channel monetization policies.
