The AVerMedia StreamLine MINI+ (GC311G2) is the clearest entry-level starting point for 1080p60 capture: AVerMedia’s April 27, 2026 guide places it below $100. For a portable setup, that guide puts the AVerMedia Elite Go (GC313Pro) in the $100–$150 tier. Those are published budget tiers, not verified live prices; check the exact model, current specifications, stock, and delivered price before buying.

What a capture card does—and what it does not do

A capture card sits between a video source, such as a console, and a computer. It sends the source’s video and audio to the computer so streaming software can record or broadcast them. Elgato describes the same basic function for PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch sources: the signal is sent to a computer for recording, live streaming, or both.

Capture and passthrough are different paths. Capture is the signal the computer receives; passthrough is the signal sent onward to a display. A card’s maximum passthrough resolution or refresh rate does not establish what it can record. For example, GamesRadar’s 2026 coverage of the AVerMedia Live Gamer Extreme 3 (GC551G2) describes 4K30 capture and 4K60 HDR passthrough, with capture limited to SDR. Treat each specification separately.

Best budget capture cards to consider

No live retail prices were verified for this shortlist, so it is not a definitive ranking by current price. AVerMedia’s April 27, 2026 guide supplies the strongest budget-tier leads; other named models below come from older listings and need especially careful availability checks.

Model Why consider it Price evidence and caveat
AVerMedia StreamLine MINI+ (GC311G2) Basic console capture; AVerMedia positions it for 1080p60 capture. AVerMedia’s April 27, 2026 guide places it below $100. This is a published tier, not a current retail-price check.
AVerMedia Elite Go (GC313Pro) Worth checking when portability is a priority. AVerMedia’s April 27, 2026 guide places it in the $100–$150 tier. Confirm the exact capture and passthrough capabilities for the listing.
AVerMedia Live Gamer Mini (GC311) Streamlabs previously listed it as a compact or travel option. Streamlabs’ older guide listed $99.99; that is historical, not a current price. Verify that the model and listing remain available.
EVGA XR1 Lite A historical budget-model lead to investigate. Streamlabs’ older guide listed it from $56. Verify current availability, price, and official support.
Razer Ripsaw X A historical model lead worth checking if a current listing fits your needs. Streamlabs’ older guide listed $99.99. Do not treat that as today’s price.
NZXT Signal HD60 A historical model lead; check current stock and compatibility. Streamlabs’ older guide listed $139.99. The listing does not establish a current price.
Mirabox HDMI Video Capture Card Streamlabs named it for Switch and gave historical 1080p/30fps detail. Streamlabs’ older guide listed $39.99. The generic product name makes matching the exact model and its current specifications particularly important.
Elgato HD60 X Consider only if you find a current, verified deal within budget. Streamlabs’ older guide listed $159, so that evidence does not support calling it under $150.
AVerMedia Live Gamer Extreme 3 (GC551G2) A near-budget comparison if 4K passthrough matters. GamesRadar’s 2026 coverage describes 4K30 capture, 4K60 HDR passthrough, SDR capture, and a listed $169.99 price—above the budget in that source.

Streamlabs cautions that capture-card prices change with market demand and that its amounts reflect the time of publishing or editing. Its older listed amounts are useful as model leads, not proof that a card currently costs less than $150.

For a portable setup

Check the Elite Go (GC313Pro), which AVerMedia’s same guide places in the $100–$150 tier and presents as a portable option. Do not infer its precise capture or passthrough modes from the tier description; use the manufacturer’s current model-specific specification matrix.

For 4K display passthrough

Do not trade on a “4K” label alone. Establish whether 4K refers to capture, passthrough, or both, and check the supported frame rate and HDR mode for each path. The cited Live Gamer Extreme 3 example demonstrates why: its described 4K60 HDR passthrough does not mean 4K60 HDR capture.

For dual-PC streaming

A capture card can send a gaming PC’s video and audio to a second computer that handles encoding. Elgato outlines this dual-PC role alongside its basic capture-card explanation. Confirm the card’s input/output connections and the source and receiving computer requirements for the precise workflow you plan to use.

Specifications to verify before paying

  • Exact model: Match the full product name and model number on the manufacturer’s current page to the retailer listing. Similar names or generic labels may refer to different hardware.
  • Capture modes: Check maximum captured resolution and frame rate, plus any limits when HDR is enabled. These are the capabilities reaching the computer and recording or streaming software.
  • Passthrough modes: Separately check the resolution, refresh rate, HDR, and VRR supported on the display output. A passthrough specification is not a capture specification.
  • Connection and computer: Confirm the card’s interface, required port or bandwidth, supported operating system, and any system requirements. Elgato’s 4K X page, for example, identifies USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 and compatibility with PS5/PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X, Switch, Steam Deck, PC, Mac, and iPhone; those details apply to that model, not every card.
  • Software and source compatibility: Verify support for your console or other source and the streaming or recording application you intend to use. Elgato lists apps including OBS for the 4K X; check the manufacturer’s current listing for the specific card.
  • Delivered cost and terms: Check current stock, tax, shipping, warranty, and return terms. Confirm the final delivered total stays within your $150 limit.

How to buy without mistaking a budget tier for a bargain

  1. Pick the job first: 1080p60 console capture, a portable setup, or a particular passthrough feature.
  2. Shortlist the exact model and model number, then open its current manufacturer specification page.
  3. Compare capture and passthrough separately, including resolution, frame rate, HDR, and VRR combinations.
  4. Check compatibility across the source device, capture-card connection, computer, operating system, and streaming software.
  5. Check more than one current retailer listing for stock and the delivered price, including tax and shipping; verify the warranty and return policy.
  6. Buy only if the exact model meets your requirements and the final price is within budget. If a historic guide price is the reason it made your list, confirm the present listing rather than relying on that old figure.

Common buying mistakes

  • Confusing passthrough with capture: A card may send a higher-resolution picture to a monitor than it records to the computer. Read the two specifications independently.
  • Assuming a guide’s price is current: A model appearing in an under-$150 article does not prove it remains under budget or in stock. Confirm the exact listing and delivered total.
  • Buying by brand or headline resolution: Compatibility and supported mode combinations vary by model. Check the manufacturer’s current matrix for your exact setup.
  • Ignoring less obvious costs or limitations: Tax, shipping, warranty, returns, operating-system support, and source connections can change whether a nominally affordable card is a good fit.

Or let it run in the cloud

A capture card helps move a live console or computer signal into another computer; it is not a way to keep uploaded videos looping as a YouTube live stream. For that different job, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos in the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams uploaded video to YouTube only, at the quality you made it, up to 4K 60fps, for one flat price per slot. It can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
