No extension can promise a clean capture of every page: protected browser pages, unusual layouts, sticky controls, and very long documents can still cause problems. This guide explains which option fits each workflow and what to check when a capture goes wrong.
Which full-page screenshot option should you choose?
The right choice depends less on the word “full-page” than on what happens after you click capture: which browser you use, whether a page has its own scroll area, whether you need to mark up the image, and where the image is processed.

For its stated Chrome, Edge, and Firefox availability, and a vendor claim that screenshots are unlimited and free, see GoFullPage. Its FAQ specifically describes identifying inner scrollable elements, such as those in email clients, and entering iframes and framesets to capture a page as one image. Those are useful capabilities to look for, not a guarantee that every site will capture correctly.
How to capture an entire webpage in Chrome
For a page that extends beyond the visible window, install a dedicated full-page capture extension from the Chrome Web Store, open the target page, and use the extension’s capture control. For a basic capture, GoFullPage is the first option to try; if the final image needs OCR, annotations, or redaction, Full Page Screenshot’s listed tools may fit better.

- Install from the browser’s store. Open the extension’s listing, confirm its publisher and current permissions, then choose the install control. Permissions can change, so review the current listing rather than relying on an old description.
- Open the page you want to capture. Wait for the main content to appear. If the page loads images or sections as you scroll, allow them to load before capturing; capture tools may need to scroll through the page to assemble it.
- Start the extension’s full-page capture. Use its toolbar button or the capture action shown in its current interface. Keep the tab open while the extension scrolls and stitches the page.
- Inspect the result before exporting. Check the beginning and end, image loading, fixed headers, and any content inside nested scroll areas. If the result is split, incomplete, or duplicated, try a different capture tool or adjust its available page controls.
- Export in the format your next step needs. PNG or JPG suits image sharing and markup; PDF may be more convenient for a document-like record. Export choices vary by extension.
Full-page capture is not the same as printing a page. A screenshot preserves a visual rendering, while a PDF or print view may reflow content and paginate it. For a visual record, inspect the screenshot itself; for a document to read or print, compare the extension’s PDF with the page’s print view.
What to use in Firefox or Edge
Firefox: try the built-in capture first
Mozilla documents Firefox Screenshots as able to capture visible parts of a webpage or the full webpage, then copy or save the image. For a one-off capture without editing requirements, this avoids installing another extension. If you need specialized handling for frames or nested scroll areas, or more export and markup controls, use a dedicated extension and check that it currently supports your Firefox version.
Edge: use a supported extension when you need a long-page image
GoFullPage’s vendor materials list Edge as supported. For an Edge workflow, check the current extension listing and installation source, then capture and inspect the result as you would in Chrome. Do not assume every Chrome extension or feature is available in Edge simply because both browsers are Chromium-based.

Which extension handles nested scrolling, sticky elements, and frames?
These page structures are common reasons a full-page image comes out incomplete. A browser window can scroll while a separate panel inside the page—such as an email list or chat history—has its own scrollbar. Some pages also place content in frames or keep headers fixed while the document moves.
- Inner scroll areas and frames: GoFullPage’s FAQ says it can identify inner scrollable elements and enter iframes and framesets. Try it first when those structures are the problem, then check the capture carefully for omitted panels.
- Fixed or sticky elements: A fixed header can appear repeatedly as a tool stitches successive screenfuls, or cover content. GetFullPage describes controls for fixed and sticky elements. Use them if the repeated element makes the capture hard to read; compare the output to the original page so you do not hide useful content.
- Very long pages: GoFullPage notes that very large captures may be split into multiple images. Smart splitting is also among GetFullPage’s described controls. If a page is unusually long, expect to review more than one output file rather than assuming a single image will contain everything.
- Protected pages: Browser restrictions can prevent extensions from capturing certain internal or protected pages. GoFullScreenshot documents limits on Chrome-protected pages. If the extension cannot run there, that is a browser restriction, not necessarily a fault in the page or your setup.
Which tools keep processing local, and which offer editing?
“Private” can mean different things: a tool may process the capture in the browser, save a history locally, or transmit the image elsewhere. Read the current listing and privacy information for the exact extension you install, especially before capturing confidential pages. Do not treat an extension’s local-processing description as proof that every related feature or optional sharing action stays local.
GoFullScreenshot says capture stitching, redaction, and editing occur inside the browser, and the image remains on the user’s machine unless shared. GetFullPage describes browser-local processing and optional local history. These descriptions make them relevant choices when local handling matters, but review their current terms and controls for your particular workflow.

For markup, Full Page Screenshot’s Chrome Web Store listing describes arrows, shapes, text, blur or pixelation, redaction, OCR, and watermarks, along with PNG, JPG, and PDF export. That is the clearest fit in this comparison when the screenshot needs to be annotated or text needs to be recognized. Confirm the current permissions and browser support in the listing before relying on it.

- PNG: A practical choice when you want a lossless image for review or further editing. Check the extension’s export options; not every tool offers every format.
- JPG or JPEG: Useful when a compressed image is sufficient. Fine text and interface details can look less crisp than in a lossless export.
- PDF: Useful when you want a portable, document-like file. A PDF made from a screenshot may still contain page imagery rather than selectable, reflowing text.
Before treating a capture as a complete record, compare it with the live page. Look for content below the fold, images that loaded late, duplicated sticky bars, cut-off sections, and missing content inside embedded frames. If the page is interactive or personalized, note that the screenshot records what was rendered for your session, not necessarily every state or every visitor’s view.
Troubleshooting: why a full-page screenshot fails
The extension cannot capture the page
Likely cause: The page is browser-protected, or the extension does not have access to that tab. Try: Check the extension’s current permissions and its documented page restrictions. Browser-internal and protected pages may not be capturable by extensions; use a supported page or another browser-native option where available.
The image stops early or misses a panel
Likely cause: The page uses an inner scroll area, an iframe, lazy-loaded content, or a very long layout. Try: Wait for content to load, inspect any separate scrollable panels, and use a tool whose documentation addresses the relevant structure. GoFullPage describes support for inner scroll areas and frames, but verify the captured output rather than assuming the entire page was included.

A header or control appears several times
Likely cause: The page keeps that element fixed or sticky as the extension scrolls. Try: Use a fixed-element control if the extension offers one, such as the controls GetFullPage describes, and compare the adjusted result with the original page to ensure meaningful content remains visible.

Likely cause: The document’s length exceeds what the extension conveniently assembles into one image. Try: Use a tool with page-splitting controls, save the resulting segments, or capture a smaller relevant section if the extension supports selected-area capture. The result is blank, incomplete, or visually different
Likely cause: The page had not finished loading, content depends on scrolling or interaction, or a site restriction interfered. Try: Reload, wait for the page to settle, interact with the section you need, and capture again. If the issue persists, compare with another extension or Firefox’s built-in capture where applicable.

Can a full-page screenshot include content that appears only after scrolling?
It depends on the page and extension. Some tools scroll while capturing, but lazy-loaded images or interactive sections may need time or interaction first. Inspect the saved image rather than assuming content loaded simply because the capture completed.
Does a screenshot contain selectable text?
A screenshot is an image, so its text is not normally selectable as page text. Full Page Screenshot’s listing describes OCR, which can recognize text from an image, but recognized text is distinct from the original webpage’s text structure.
