GoFullPage is the leading extension option here for capturing an entire webpage; if you use Microsoft Edge and want to avoid installing anything, try its built-in Screenshot Tool. Neither is guaranteed to capture every page correctly. Browser support, scrolling behavior, embedded PDFs, and the formats or markup you need should guide your choice.

Which browser screenshot tool should you choose?

What to check before capturing documentation

A screenshot is useful only if it includes the content you need and can be shared in a usable form. Before choosing an extension, check:

  • Browser availability: Confirm the extension is listed in your browser’s store, or use the built-in Edge option if you already use Edge.
  • Capture area: Decide whether you need the whole page or only a selected region.
  • Page behavior: Check whether the page loads content as you scroll or uses a custom scrolling interface. Test the actual page rather than assuming a full-page tool will handle it.
  • Markup and redaction: If documentation needs comments or sensitive details obscured, confirm the tool supports the edits you need. Redaction is not the same as cropping; verify the saved result before sharing it.
  • Export format: Choose a format your documentation workflow accepts. The Full Page Screen Capture listing describes PNG, JPG, and PDF export; verify that those options remain available in its current listing.
  • Completeness: Inspect the saved output for missing sections, duplicated content, or split images. A long capture that opens as several images may need extra handling in your documentation.

How to capture a full webpage

  1. Install the extension from your browser’s official store. For GoFullPage, start with the Chrome Web Store or Firefox Add-ons. Its site reports Edge availability; check the Edge Add-ons store for the current listing.
  2. Open the page you want to document. Wait for the visible content to finish loading, including any content that appears after scrolling.
  3. Start a full-page capture from the extension. Follow the current extension UI to begin the capture; the exact control may vary by browser and version.
  4. Review the result before exporting. Look for missing sections, repeated sections, overlays, or unexpected breaks. If the page uses a PDF viewer or custom scrolling, use the alternatives below rather than assuming the capture is complete.
  5. Save in the format your documentation needs. If you need annotations, redaction, or a particular format, verify those tools and the exported file before distributing it.

When GoFullPage may not capture the page as expected

PDFs and embedded documents

GoFullPage’s FAQ says it cannot access PDF documents to scroll and capture them. If the content is a PDF displayed in the browser, download or open the document with a suitable PDF workflow instead of treating it as a regular webpage.

  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Custom scrolling and dynamic pages

Some sites use custom JavaScript scrolling that, according to GoFullPage’s FAQ, can prevent normal capture. Try the target page directly and inspect the output; a failed or incomplete capture is a reason to switch methods, not to assume the page itself is empty.

Very large pages

The GoFullPage Firefox listing says very large captures may be split into images in separate tabs. Check every resulting image and keep them together if the documentation depends on the complete page.

Browser-internal pages

Extensions may not be able to capture browser-internal pages. If the browser blocks extension access, use a supported webpage or a browser-native capture option where available.

When Edge’s built-in Screenshot Tool is a better fit

Use Edge’s Screenshot Tool when you want to capture a full page or a selected area without adding an extension, or when you need to mark up a capture before copying or saving it. Microsoft says it can capture long or moving webpages. Microsoft also cautions that availability and functionality vary by device, market, and browser version, so the tool may not behave identically for every Edge user.

Alternative when annotation and export choices matter

The Full Page Screen Capture Chrome Web Store listing describes annotation, redaction, and PNG, JPG, and PDF export, and claims no signup or watermark. Treat these as listing claims: check the current store entry for supported behavior, permissions, and terms before relying on the extension for work documentation. No independent comparative results establish that it will outperform the other options on your pages.
