For most buyers, the best Android TV is the Sony BRAVIA 8 II if movie quality and OLED contrast matter most. Choose the Sony BRAVIA 7 II for a brighter room, the TCL QM8K for high-value Mini-LED performance, the TCL QM6K for a tighter budget, and the Hisense U8QG if high brightness, a 165Hz panel, or a very large screen is the priority.

One terminology note matters before you shop: in the U.S., many televisions marketed as Android TVs now use the newer Google TV interface. Google TV runs on Android TV OS, so an Android TV search should usually include Google TV models as well. The recommendations below are U.S.-oriented and reflect model information and independent testing available through August 11, 2026.

Best Android TVs at a glance

Best for Recommended TV Why it stands out Main caution
Best overall premium TV Sony BRAVIA 8 II Google TV QD-OLED contrast, Sony processing, Dolby Vision, and a polished Google TV experience OLED is less suitable for long periods of static logos, news tickers, game HUDs, or desktop interfaces
Best premium bright-room TV Sony BRAVIA 7 II Google TV True RGB Mini-LED, strong brightness potential, 4K/120 gaming, VRR, ALLM, and wide-angle technology Verify the exact size and 2026 model suffix; do not confuse it with the 2025 BRAVIA 7
Best high-value Mini-LED TCL QM8K Google TV High-impact picture, strong contrast and gaming features, and a lower price position than flagship OLED TVs The newer QM8L is also entering the current lineup, so check availability and street price
Best budget Google TV TCL QM6K Google TV A lower-cost route to 4K Google TV and Mini-LED-derived contrast Expect compromises in brightness, processing, motion, sound, or viewing angle depending on size
Best bright-room and gaming alternative Hisense U8QG Google TV MiniLED Pro backlighting, a claimed peak brightness of up to 5,000 nits, native 165Hz, and anti-reflection treatment The 5,000-nit figure is a manufacturer claim, not an independent measurement
Best very-large-screen value TCL QM8K or Hisense U8QG Strong 98- to 100-inch options for a cinema-sized image without flagship OLED pricing Compare the exact size, price, warranty, return policy, and delivery logistics
Best lower-cost Sony Sony BRAVIA 2 II or BRAVIA 5 BRAVIA 2 II lowers the entry price; BRAVIA 5 is the more serious Mini-LED choice Choose the BRAVIA 5 when picture performance matters more than the lowest Sony price

There is no single best Android TV for every room. Panel technology, screen size, seating position, glare, gaming hardware, static-image habits, and budget can change the right answer more than the brand name.

Android TV versus Google TV: what you are actually buying

Android TV OS powers televisions and streaming devices, while Google TV is the newer user-facing experience built on that platform. Google states that Android TV apps work on devices using Google TV. In practical terms, a current Google TV is generally the Android-based television a U.S. shopper means when searching for an Android TV.

#1 Best Overall
Google TV Streamer 4K - Fast Streaming Entertainment on Your Device with Voice Search Remote - Watch Movies, Shows, Live, and Netflix in HDR - Smart Home Control - 32 GB of Storage - Hazel
  • The Google TV Streamer (4K) delivers your favorite entertainment quickly, easily, and personalized to you[1,2]
  • HDMI 2.1 cable required (sold separately)
  • See movies and TV shows from all your services right from your home screen[2]; and find new things to watch with tailored recommendations for everyone in your home based on their interests and viewing habits
  • Watch live TV and access over 800 free channels from Pluto TV, Tubi, and more[3]; if you find an interesting show or movie on your TV, mobile app, or Google search, you can easily add it to your watchlist, so it’s ready when you are[2]
  • Up to 4K HDR with Dolby Vision delivers captivating, true-to-life detail[4]; and you can connect speakers that support Dolby Atmos for more immersive 3D sound

Google TV brings Google Play apps, Google Cast, Google Assistant, and content discovery across supported streaming services. It does not automatically include subscriptions to Netflix, Max, Disney+, YouTube TV, or other paid services. App support, content availability, voice features, and some account functions vary by region and service. Some advertised Google TV features also require a Google account.

Do not classify a TV as an Android TV merely because it has streaming apps. Roku TV, Fire TV, VIDAA, Xumo, and proprietary smart-TV systems are different platforms. Check the product page for Google TV or Android TV OS before buying.

Our recommendations

1. Sony BRAVIA 8 II: best overall premium Android TV

The Sony BRAVIA 8 II Google TV is the strongest all-round recommendation for buyers who want a premium movie and television experience rather than the lowest price. It is a 2025 QD-OLED Google TV with a 4K OLED panel, Sony’s XR processor, Dolby Vision support, and the clean, content-focused Google TV interface. Independent testing and buying-guide coverage place it among the leading Google TV and OLED choices; RTINGS currently places it at the top of its Google TV recommendations.

Its appeal is straightforward: OLED pixels can turn off individually, giving dark scenes exceptionally deep blacks and strong contrast without the blooming that can appear around bright objects on some LCD televisions. Sony’s processing is also a compelling reason to choose this set over a less expensive OLED if you care about film presentation, upscaling, motion handling, and Dolby Vision content.

Choose it if: you watch a lot of movies or premium television, sit relatively centered in front of the screen, want OLED contrast, and value Sony’s processing and Google TV.

Think twice if: the television will display a news channel with a fixed banner, a game HUD, a desktop interface, or another static element for many hours every day. That does not make OLED automatically unsuitable, but Mini-LED is the more natural choice for unusually heavy static-content use, a very bright room, or a very large screen.

Availability and specifications can vary by screen size, so check the exact BRAVIA 8 II size and suffix before purchase. Sony’s BRAVIA 8 II product and support information is the appropriate place to verify the version you are considering.

2. Sony BRAVIA 7 II: best premium Mini-LED for bright rooms

The Sony BRAVIA 7 II Google TV is the better premium pick when your room is bright, your seating is spread across a sofa, or you prefer LCD/Mini-LED to OLED. Sony’s 2026 BRAVIA 7 II uses the company’s True RGB Mini-LED approach and adds Google TV with Gemini integration, Google Cast, AirPlay 2, 4K/120Hz support, VRR, and ALLM. Sony lists 50-, 55-, 65-, 75-, 85-, and 98-inch classes for the 2026 model.

Rank #2
Google Streamer 4K – Fast Streaming Entertainment with Voice Search Remote, Watch Movies, Shows, Live Channels and Netflix in HDR, Smart Home Control, 32 GB Storage, Porcelain

Mini-LED uses many small backlight zones behind an LCD panel. It cannot provide the pixel-level black control of OLED, but it can deliver the brightness and sustained full-screen impact that are often more useful in a sunlit living room. The BRAVIA 7 II also makes more sense than OLED for buyers who want a 98-inch class screen or who are particularly concerned about leaving fixed content on the display.

Choose it if: glare, brightness, large-screen viewing, wide seating, or current-console gaming is more important than perfect OLED blacks.

Watch for: model-year confusion. The 2026 BRAVIA 7 II is materially newer than the 2025 BRAVIA 7. Do not combine specifications, sizes, or prices from the two generations. Sony’s current product pages can show promotional pricing that changes, so treat any sale price as temporary and verify it immediately before publication or purchase. The current Sony BRAVIA 7 II listing should be used to confirm the exact model.

3. TCL QM8K: best high-value premium Android TV

The TCL QM8K Google TV is the value-oriented choice for shoppers who want a vivid, high-impact Mini-LED picture and gaming features without moving all the way to flagship OLED pricing. It is a 2025 QD-Mini LED QLED television with Google TV. Independent comparison coverage describes the series as a strong performer for brightness, contrast, gaming, and overall value.

The QM8K is especially attractive for sports, HDR movies, games, and large living rooms where a bright LCD can make more practical sense than an OLED. It is also one of the most relevant candidates for buyers considering a 98-inch display. In large-screen testing, RTINGS found the 98-inch TCL QM8K slightly preferable to the comparable Hisense 100U8QG for most people, although the difference is not a universal verdict for every room or price.

Choose it if: you want premium-looking contrast and brightness, play games, watch HDR content, or want a very large screen at a value-oriented price.

Watch for: the exact screen size and the newer TCL QM8L. TCL now lists the QM8L as a 2026 successor or current-line option, so do not assume QM8K pricing or availability will remain unchanged. The TCL QM8K product page is useful for confirming the version and available sizes before comparing offers.

4. TCL QM6K: best budget-conscious Google TV

The TCL QM6K Google TV is the most defensible budget recommendation for buyers who specifically want Google TV, 4K resolution, and better contrast potential than a basic conventional LED set. RTINGS identifies the QM6K as its best Google TV for strict-budget shoppers.

ONN Android TV 4K UHD Streaming Device with Voice Remote Control Google Assistant & High Speed HDMI Cable (100026240) Black
  • 4K Ultra HD Resolution: Enjoy your TV in stunning resolution Ultra HD ers four times the resolution of Full HD for greater clarity and detail
  • Android TV: With the Android TV operating system you will have access to the best content, download the infinity of applications available through the Google Play Store!

  • Chromecast Built-in: Easily cast movies, shows, and photos from your Android or iOS device to your Android TV
  • Easy Setup: Access your Google account and configure the device, language and Wi-Fi network

It is a sensible fit for a bedroom, apartment, family room, or first 4K television where the Google TV platform matters but premium picture performance does not justify the cost of a QM8K, Sony BRAVIA 7 II, or Sony BRAVIA 8 II. The lower price comes with trade-offs. Depending on the selected size, expect less peak brightness, less refined processing, weaker motion performance, narrower viewing angles, or less capable built-in audio than on premium models.

Choose it if: your budget is firm and you want the Google TV interface, 4K streaming, and a better-value picture than entry-level LED televisions typically provide.

Before buying: compare the exact size rather than assuming every QM6K has identical picture hardware. TCL’s support information lists the QM6K among its current Google TV series, but size-specific specifications and pricing should be checked at the retailer and manufacturer page.

5. Hisense U8QG: best bright-room and high-refresh-rate alternative

The Hisense U8QG Google TV is a strong alternative to TCL for buyers who prioritize brightness, anti-reflection treatment, gaming refresh rate, or large-screen performance per dollar. Hisense lists MiniLED Pro backlighting, a native 165Hz panel, anti-reflection treatment, and a multi-channel speaker system. It claims peak brightness of up to 5,000 nits.

That 5,000-nit number must be read correctly: it is a manufacturer claim, not an independently measured result. It is useful for understanding how Hisense positions the product, but it should not be treated as a direct comparison with an independently tested brightness figure from another television.

Choose it if: your room is bright, you want a high-refresh-rate gaming display, you prefer a large screen, or the U8QG is substantially cheaper than a similarly sized TCL or Sony.

Check before buying: the exact size, the number and location of HDMI inputs with the features you need, current firmware, retailer return terms, and warranty coverage. The Hisense U8QG product information confirms the manufacturer’s listed features. For large screens, compare it directly with the TCL QM8K rather than assuming one brand wins at every size.

6. TCL QM8K versus Hisense U8QG for a 98- to 100-inch TV

For a very large Google TV, the practical shortlist is the TCL QM8K in a 98-inch class or the Hisense U8QG in a 100-inch class. The research does not support declaring a universal winner. RTINGS’ comparison describes the two as delivering similar overall experiences, with the TCL 98QM8K slightly better for most people.

At this size, buying logistics can matter as much as a small picture-quality difference. Compare:

  • Exact diagonal: 98 and 100 inches are not the same physical size, and the model suffix matters.
  • Current price: large-screen promotions change frequently; compare the delivered price, not only the advertised panel price.
  • Delivery: confirm whether the retailer offers room-of-choice delivery, installation, packaging removal, and damage inspection.
  • Warranty and returns: a return pickup for a 98- or 100-inch television can be much more complicated than returning a 55-inch set.
  • Wall and furniture limits: verify the stand width, VESA pattern, wall capacity, doorway clearance, and viewing distance.

7. Sony BRAVIA 2 II or BRAVIA 5: best lower-cost Sony options

The Sony BRAVIA 2 II is the sensible choice when the goal is Sony branding and Google TV at a lower entry price. It is a 4K HDR LED Google TV with Sony’s 4K Processor X1, Google Cast, AirPlay 2, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X compatibility, and PS5-related picture features.

The Sony BRAVIA 5 is the better choice when picture performance matters more than obtaining the least expensive Sony. It is a 2025 Mini-LED Google TV and is more credible for viewers who want stronger brightness and contrast than a conventional LED model can generally provide.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

In short, choose the BRAVIA 2 II for ordinary streaming and everyday television on a controlled budget. Move to the BRAVIA 5 when HDR impact, contrast, and bright-room performance justify the extra cost. Sony’s BRAVIA 2 II listing can be used to verify its current model details.

How to choose the right Android TV

OLED or Mini-LED?

Technology Best suited to Advantages Trade-offs
OLED or QD-OLED Movie-focused viewing, dark rooms, and centered seating Very deep blacks, excellent contrast, and no conventional LCD backlight blooming Less ideal for prolonged static images; may not be the best fit for the brightest rooms or largest sizes
Mini-LED LCD Bright rooms, sports, gaming, HDR, and very large screens High brightness potential, strong contrast, and broad size availability Can show blooming around bright objects; off-axis performance varies by model
Conventional LED LCD Basic streaming, bedrooms, and strict budgets Usually the least expensive route to a smart 4K television Typically less impressive contrast, brightness, processing, and viewing angles than the better Mini-LED models

Do not choose OLED or Mini-LED by price alone. A dark dedicated movie room favors the BRAVIA 8 II. A sunlit living room, a sports-heavy household, or a 98-inch installation favors a bright Mini-LED model such as the BRAVIA 7 II, QM8K, or U8QG.

What matters for PS5, Xbox, and PC gaming?

For current-console or PC gaming, look for a native 120Hz or higher panel, HDMI 2.1, 4K/120 support, variable refresh rate (VRR), and auto low-latency mode (ALLM). A higher refresh rate can matter to PC players, but the complete input and display chain must support it: the television, source device, game, HDMI port, and cable.

The BRAVIA 7 II lists 4K/120Hz, VRR, and ALLM. Hisense lists a native 165Hz panel on the U8QG. The TCL QM8K is also a strong gaming-value candidate. Verify the exact size because specifications can vary across a series, and confirm which HDMI inputs provide the bandwidth and gaming functions you need.

How much do brightness and reflections matter?

In a room with windows or strong overhead lighting, brightness and reflection control can affect viewing more than a small difference in dark-room contrast. Mini-LED models are generally the more practical starting point. The BRAVIA 7 II adds wide-angle technology, while the Hisense U8QG lists anti-reflection treatment.

Wide seating is a separate concern from glare. If people regularly watch from the sides, investigate off-axis performance for the exact model and size. A television that looks excellent from the center seat may lose contrast or color from an extreme angle.

Do you need a soundbar?

No. Every recommended TV can be used with its built-in speakers, but a soundbar is worth considering if dialogue clarity, bass, or cinema-like sound matters. Check the television’s audio return connection and the soundbar’s compatibility before buying. The BRAVIA 2 II listing, for example, identifies Dolby Atmos and DTS:X compatibility, but format support does not guarantee that the built-in speakers will reproduce the same effect as a separate audio system.

What to buy with an Android TV

  • VESA-compatible TV wall mount: choose one rated for the television’s weight, screen size, and exact VESA pattern. Confirm that the wall itself and the mounting hardware can support the load.
  • Certified HDMI 2.1 cable: useful for 4K/120 gaming and other high-bandwidth connections. It is not necessary to replace every cable if your existing cable already handles the signal reliably.
  • Soundbar for Google TV: consider this for clearer dialogue, stronger bass, or a wider soundstage; it is not mandatory for using Google TV.
  • Surge protector: a sensible addition where power quality or cable organization is a concern, although it is not a substitute for proper electrical protection or insurance.
  • Universal TV remote: useful as a replacement or spare, but verify Google TV voice, app, Bluetooth, and navigation support before buying a generic remote.

Check these details before you order

  1. Confirm the platform: the listing should explicitly say Google TV or Android TV OS. Do not infer it from the availability of Netflix or other apps.
  2. Confirm the year and suffix: BRAVIA 7 II and BRAVIA 7 are different generations. TCL QM8K and QM8L should not be treated as interchangeable.
  3. Confirm the exact size: panel technology, backlight behavior, dimming-zone count, ports, and gaming features can differ by diagonal within one series.
  4. Match the panel to the room: choose OLED for dark-room contrast and Mini-LED when brightness, static-content tolerance, or a very large screen matters more.
  5. Count the right ports: make sure the exact TV has enough HDMI inputs with HDMI 2.1, 4K/120, VRR, or ALLM if your console or PC needs them.
  6. Check account and subscription requirements: Google TV features may require a Google account, and streaming subscriptions are separate from the television purchase.
  7. Compare the delivered price: manufacturer promotions and retailer discounts change. A temporary sale should not be treated as the permanent list price.
  8. Read warranty and return terms: especially for OLED panels and 98- to 100-inch televisions. Confirm who pays for pickup or shipping if the set arrives damaged or must be returned.
  9. Measure the route into the room: include the box, doorways, stairwells, elevator, stand width, wall space, and viewing position.

Final recommendations by buyer

  • Movie enthusiast: Sony BRAVIA 8 II.
  • Bright living room: Sony BRAVIA 7 II.
  • Premium picture without flagship OLED pricing: TCL QM8K.
  • Strict budget: TCL QM6K.
  • High-refresh gaming and brightness: Hisense U8QG.
  • 98- to 100-inch screen: compare TCL QM8K and Hisense U8QG at the exact size and delivered price.
  • Lower-cost Sony: BRAVIA 2 II for basic value, BRAVIA 5 for stronger Mini-LED performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Google TV the same as Android TV?

Google TV is the newer user-facing experience that runs on Android TV OS. Android TV apps work on Google TV devices, which is why current Google TV models should usually be included when shopping for an Android TV.

Does a Google TV include Netflix or other streaming subscriptions?

No. Google TV provides the operating system, apps, content discovery, Google Cast, and related features, but paid services such as Netflix, Max, Disney+, and YouTube TV require separate accounts and subscriptions.

Should I buy an OLED or Mini-LED Android TV?

Choose OLED for the deepest dark-room contrast and movie viewing. Choose Mini-LED for a bright room, a very large screen, high sustained brightness, or a household that displays static logos, tickers, game HUDs, or desktop interfaces for long periods.

What gaming specifications should an Android TV have?

For current consoles and PC gaming, look for a native 120Hz or higher panel, HDMI 2.1, 4K/120 support, VRR, and ALLM. Verify those features for the exact screen size and HDMI input rather than assuming every model in a series supports them.

The Bottom Line

The Sony BRAVIA 8 II is the best premium Android-based TV for movie-first buyers, but the Sony BRAVIA 7 II is the smarter choice for many bright rooms. TCL’s QM8K delivers the strongest value-oriented Mini-LED proposition, the QM6K covers tighter budgets, and Hisense’s U8QG is compelling for brightness, gaming refresh rate, and very large screens. Whichever you choose, verify the exact size, model suffix, current price, ports, warranty, and return policy before ordering.
