There is no universal best replacement for New Relic or Sentry: the right shortlist depends on whether you need browser experience monitoring, synthetic checks, backend traces, infrastructure metrics, logs, or a combination. The products overlap in parts of the monitoring workflow, but they are not interchangeable in every deployment. Compare the specific signals, workflows, operating model, and costs you need—not just the vendor names.
What “web performance monitoring” needs to cover
A web application’s performance can be observed at several layers. A platform may cover some of them well without providing every capability your team expects from the word “observability.” Check the product and plan details for each signal.
- Browser and user experience: real-user monitoring (RUM), browser errors, session capture if needed, and Core Web Vitals or equivalent metrics.
- Synthetic checks: scripted tests that exercise pages or journeys from locations relevant to your users.
- Application diagnosis: distributed traces, service maps, profiling, and error tracking.
- Operations context: infrastructure metrics and logs, plus the ability to connect them to traces, deployments, and alerts during an incident.
First list the signals and incident workflows you actually need. A tool that replaces one part of your current setup may still leave you needing another product for browser monitoring, infrastructure, or logs.

Datadog
Datadog is a candidate when broad integrations and a managed, multi-signal platform matter. A New Relic-authored alternatives guide describes infrastructure monitoring, distributed tracing, and RUM and synthetic monitoring as parts of Datadog’s offering. That is a useful lead, not an independent comparison or a guarantee that your particular framework, browser metric, or workflow is covered. Dynatrace
Consider Dynatrace if automated discovery and broad application and infrastructure coverage are central to your evaluation. Its described scope includes RUM and synthetic monitoring alongside the wider platform. Pricing is not one interchangeable per-host figure: Dynatrace lists distinct units across product areas, including hosts, memory GiB-hours, pods, ingestion, retention, and queries. Build an estimate from the exact services and product areas you plan to use rather than comparing only an entry rate.

Grafana Cloud or the Grafana stack
Grafana is worth evaluating if your team already uses Grafana or Prometheus-style workflows, or if open standards and data-source portability matter. Grafana Cloud is positioned around managed open-source components and standards such as OpenTelemetry. A managed service can reduce infrastructure work compared with self-hosting, but flexibility may mean more choices to configure and correlate. Confirm which components, signal paths, and incident workflows are managed for your specific setup.

Self-hosting the Grafana stack can offer more control, but it also means operating the components needed for the coverage you want. A full observability workflow may involve multiple components rather than a single installation.

Splunk Observability Cloud
Include Splunk Observability Cloud if you already use Splunk or want to evaluate its observability ecosystem. Vendor-authored comparisons describe unified monitoring and tracing features, while also noting that module combinations and onboarding can complicate setup or pricing. Ask for a configuration and commercial proposal that matches your required signals; do not assume a bundle includes every capability you need.
AppDynamics
AppDynamics is a candidate for larger organizations focused on application performance and business transactions. Vendor-authored comparisons describe business-transaction monitoring and connecting application performance with business impact. Confirm the current product scope, deployment fit, and commercial terms directly with the vendor before treating it as a replacement for a specific New Relic or Sentry workflow.

SigNoz
SigNoz is worth assessing when OpenTelemetry, telemetry-pipeline control, or self-hosting are priorities. The reviewed vendor comparison describes metrics, traces, and logs in one interface. Self-management can provide control, but shifts setup, storage, upgrades, and reliability work to your team. Validate the maturity and support available for the production environment you intend to run.

Use the same representative service and user journey to evaluate each candidate. Record evidence for the requirements below instead of relying on a generic feature checklist.

- Map the required signals. Specify whether you need RUM, session capture, Core Web Vitals or equivalent, synthetic checks, traces, profiling, error tracking, infrastructure metrics, logs, or all of them. Mark which are essential and which are optional.
- Test the actual instrumentation path. Confirm language and framework support, automatic versus manual instrumentation, OpenTelemetry compatibility, and migration effort. Check whether the data you need appears with useful service, deployment, and user context.
- Rehearse an incident workflow. Follow a slow page or failing request from browser evidence through traces, related metrics, and logs. Verify whether teams can correlate signals and deployments and route useful alerts without assembling the context manually.
- Check operational constraints. Compare SaaS, managed, and self-hosted options for data residency, retention controls, maintenance, reliability responsibilities, and the expertise your team has available.
- Price a realistic workload. Estimate the services and hosts, telemetry volume, custom-metric cardinality, retention period, query needs, seats, and optional modules you expect to use. Ask how those assumptions are billed and model likely growth as well as normal usage.
- Run a workload-specific trial. Send representative telemetry and test the workflows your engineers use. Check data completeness, alert quality, usability, and total estimated cost before committing to a migration.
Why headline prices and feature claims can mislead
Rates are difficult to compare when products charge for different units or divide capabilities among modules. Dynatrace’s listed units vary across product areas, while other candidates may make hosts, custom metrics, ingestion, retention, queries, seats, or optional modules relevant to the final estimate. A low advertised starting rate does not establish a lower cost for your workload.
Likewise, an “alternatives” page published by a vendor can help identify products and questions to ask, but it is not an independent head-to-head test. Verify product claims in current documentation and use a trial with representative traffic and telemetry. Do not assume a vendor’s definition of broad coverage matches your required browser, backend, and operations workflows.
Choose the replacement around the gap you need to close
If your priority is breadth in a managed platform, assess Datadog and Dynatrace against your required signals and workload-based estimate. If your team values open standards or already works in Grafana, compare Grafana Cloud with the operational demands of the stack you would otherwise self-host. If Splunk is already part of your environment, include Splunk Observability Cloud and price the modules you need. For business-transaction visibility, evaluate AppDynamics; for OpenTelemetry and self-management, evaluate SigNoz with its operational burden included.
