If you want to track a particular route, Google Flights is the clearest alternative to Matt’s Flights: it can monitor a selected flight or route, including an “Any dates” option. Skyscanner is another option for alerts on a saved flight. If you prefer broader deal notifications rather than watching one itinerary, Going offers custom flight alerts, with features that vary by membership tier. The right choice depends on whether you know your destination and dates—or want to stay open to deals.
How to choose an airfare alert service
Start with the kind of deal you want to catch. A tracker for a known route answers a different need from a service that sends deals across a wider range of destinations or dates.
- Alert scope: Decide whether you need to monitor an exact flight, a route with fixed dates, a route with flexible dates, or broader flight deals.
- Notification behavior: Services may alert on significant changes or changes to a saved flight; do not assume every price movement triggers a notification.
- Cost and limits: Check whether the feature you want is free or tied to a membership tier. Going says feature availability depends on tier.
- Search versus booking: Search services can compare offers and direct you to a booking provider. Confirm the fare and booking conditions with that provider before buying.
Best alternatives to Matt’s Flights
Google Flights: best for tracking a route, including flexible dates
Google Flights lets you track a selected flight or a route. You can choose specific dates or select “Any dates.” Google says it can email you when the price of a tracked flight or route changes significantly; that does not mean it will notify you about every price change. Its help page also describes price-rise and fare-expiration insights in some cases. See Google’s flight and price tracking instructions.
For “Any dates,” Google says it emails when the route’s minimum price drops significantly over a month. If the drop is not large enough, it may send a regular email with available fares instead. This is useful if you know where you want to go but can shift your travel dates.

Skyscanner: best for alerts on a saved flight
Skyscanner lets you save a flight and receive a price alert when its price changes. Its help pages explain how to manage or stop alerts. The service compares offers from booking sources, then lets you choose where to book; it is a comparison tool, not a guarantee that it has surfaced every available fare. Read Skyscanner’s price help or learn how Skyscanner describes its service.
Going: best for curated deal notifications
Going describes custom flight alerts and broader deal notifications, making it worth considering if you want to hear about deals rather than monitor only one saved itinerary. The features available depend on membership tier, so check the current plan details before signing up. Going’s guide also describes Price Drop monitoring for a fare after booking. Matt’s Flights: the baseline
Matt’s Flights describes its service as free cheap-flight email alerts and says it began in 2017. That makes it a useful baseline if you are comparing a deal-alert service with a route or flight tracker. Its promotional reach or savings claims should not be treated as independently verified statistics. See Matt’s Flights.
KAYAK: check its current alert documentation first
KAYAK may be another service to investigate, but current official documentation for its price-alert features is not established here. Verify its current features with KAYAK before relying on it as a direct substitute.

Which service fits your travel style?
- You know the route but not the dates: Google Flights’ “Any dates” tracking is the most directly documented fit in this comparison.
- You have a particular flight in mind: Compare Google Flights’ selected-flight tracking with Skyscanner’s saved-flight alerts.
- You want deal notifications beyond one itinerary: Consider Going, and confirm which alerts your membership tier includes.
- You want free email deal alerts: Matt’s Flights presents that as its offering; compare it with tracking tools based on whether you want curated deals or updates about a flight you selected.
What to check before booking an alerted fare
An alert is a reason to review a fare, not a booking guarantee. Prices and availability can change, and a comparison service may send you to another provider to complete the purchase. Open the booking offer, confirm that the itinerary and total price still match what you want, and review the provider’s conditions before paying. Alert features, membership limits, and service details can also change over time; check each service’s current documentation.
