The right Fitbit Air alternative depends on what you want to change. Choose Fitbit Inspire 3 for a screen and everyday tracking within Fitbit; Garmin vívosmart 5 for Garmin’s app ecosystem and recovery-oriented information; or Amazfit Active 2 if you want built-in GPS in a watch-style device. For more wrist-based apps and smartwatch features, compare Fitbit Charge 6 or Google Pixel Watch 4. These are alternatives by use case, not devices shown to perform identically.

What to consider before choosing a Fitbit Air alternative

Fitbit Air is a screenless tracker designed for day-and-night wear. Google lists 24/7 heart rate, heart-rhythm monitoring with AFib alerts, estimated blood oxygen (SpO2), resting heart rate, heart-rate variability, sleep stages and duration, and automatic detection and recaps for common activities. Google states up to one week of battery life; these are manufacturer descriptions, not independent accuracy findings. Google’s Fitbit Air announcement has the product details.

Air’s phone and account requirements are also part of the comparison. Google says setup and data viewing use the Google Health app, and pairing requires a Google account. Its help page specifies Android 11 or newer, or iOS 16.4 or newer. The tracker should be worn on top of the wrist with its sensor continuously touching the skin. Some features, including irregular-rhythm notifications and SpO2 estimates, are not available in every region; some advanced features require Google Health Premium. Check Google’s Fitbit Air setup and support guidance for applicable requirements and availability.

Use these five questions to narrow the options:

  • Do you want a screen? Air has none; the Inspire 3 adds a display, while the Active 2 and Pixel Watch 4 are watch-style devices.
  • Which app ecosystem suits you? Inspire 3 and Charge 6 keep you in Google’s Fitbit ecosystem; vívosmart 5 uses Garmin’s.
  • How will routes be tracked? The Inspire 3 and vívosmart 5 are listed without built-in GPS, while the Active 2 is described as having it.
  • Which daily metrics matter? Compare the specific sleep and health features you want, and check whether they are available where you live.
  • Does the experience depend on a subscription? Check the current feature requirements for the exact device and region rather than assuming every metric is included without a subscription.

Fitbit Inspire 3: the straightforward screen upgrade

Choose the Inspire 3 if you like Fitbit’s everyday-tracking approach but want to see information on the wrist instead of relying on a phone app. Google lists steps, active minutes and sleep insights, with stated battery life of over one week. It is the closest fit in this group for someone who wants a familiar Fitbit tracker with a display.

The trade-off is route tracking: TechRadar lists no onboard GPS, so outdoor routes depend on a connected phone. It also remains in Google’s health-app ecosystem, making it a poor fit if your main reason for switching is to leave that ecosystem.

Garmin vívosmart 5: a different app ecosystem

Consider the vívosmart 5 if you want a lightweight tracker outside Google’s ecosystem and value Garmin’s recovery-oriented Body Battery information. TechRadar lists up to seven days of battery life, but no built-in GPS; its guide says phone-based route tracking is used for outdoor activities.

Amazfit Active 2: built-in GPS in a watch-style device

The Active 2 is the option to consider if built-in GPS and offline maps matter more than keeping a compact, screenless design. TechRadar’s budget guide describes it as having both. Its watch-style screen and interface are a meaningful change from Air’s understated band, so it suits someone who wants more visible information rather than a near-identical form factor.
