For reliable Power gains without focusing on Dreaming City activities, start with Portal Ops and pick the highest difficulty you can complete consistently. For structured group PvE and strong gear, check the currently featured raid and dungeon; for a more relaxed option, run destination Public Events and make them Heroic. The best choice depends on the reward tier shown in the Director, your preferred difficulty, whether you want repeatable drops, and which content you own.
What “Powerful gear” means in Destiny 2 now
Bungie’s current terminology is broader than the old activity checklist implied: “Powerful gear now loosely refers to anything that provides your Guardian with a Power boost.” Its Monument of Triumph FAQ also states that the maximum Power cap remains 550 in 2026, with no Power Level increase for that update. Rather than relying on older lists of activities labeled Powerful, inspect the reward shown for each activity and difficulty in the Director. Bungie Help’s Monument of Triumph FAQ says activities and their difficulties award different amounts of gear Power.

Best alternatives at a glance
| Option | Best for | Reward and repeatability | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Portal Ops | Choosing a deliberate difficulty and reward tier | Portal tiers map difficulty and rank; choose the highest tier you can repeat reliably | Activity, difficulty, and reward rank displayed in the Director |
| Featured raid or dungeon | Structured group PvE and activity-specific gear | Featured activities rotate weekly; some rewards are farmable, while certain challenge and hidden-chest rewards are weekly locked | Current featured listing, lockouts, and ownership requirements |
| Destination Public Events | Lower-pressure destination play | Base completion awards Tier 3; Heroic completion awards Tier 4, with a chance for a drop to upgrade to Tier 5 | Whether the event is Heroic or affected by a Distortion |
| Seasonal Hub challenges and Reward Pass | Progress through daily and weekly objectives | Bungie identifies challenges and Reward Pass rewards as Power-progression routes | Current challenge requirements and available rewards |
The tier details and destination rules come from Bungie Help’s Director guide. Featured activity rules are described in Bungie’s June 2026 update notes. Exact featured choices change, so use the live Director rather than an old weekly list.
Portal Ops: the most direct way to choose a reward tier
Portal Ops is the clearest alternative when you want to target a tier through difficulty rather than guess which legacy activity still has the reward you need. Bungie’s 2026 Director guide maps difficulty and rank as follows:
#1 Best Overall
- From the makers of the acclaimed hit game Destiny, comes the much-anticipated sequel
- An action shooter that takes you on an epic journey across the solar system
- Humanity’s last safe city has fallen to an overwhelming invasion force, led by Ghaul, the imposing commander of the brutal Red Legion
- To defeat the Red Legion and confront Ghaul, you must reunite humanity’s scattered heroes, stand together, and fight back to reclaim our home
| Difficulty and rank | Reward tier |
|---|---|
| Normal / C | Tier 1 |
| Advanced / B | Tier 2 |
| Expert / A | Tier 3 |
| Master / A+ | Tier 4 |
| Grandmaster / S or Ultimate / S+ | Tier 5 |
Use the strongest tier you can finish consistently, not simply the highest one on the menu. A repeatable completion is more useful than a difficult run that stalls or fails. The Director groups Portal activities with Solo, Fireteam, Pinnacle, and Crucible Ops, so choose a mode that fits whether you want to play alone, with a group, or in PvP.
Featured raids and dungeons: choose them for their gear and rules
Raids and dungeons suit players who want structured group PvE and rewards tied to a specific activity. Bungie’s June 2026 rules make featured activities farmable in specified cases, but not every reward event is repeatable: some Director Challenge and hidden-chest rewards remain weekly locked. The featured lineup rotates each week, so check the Director for the activity, reward, and lockout details before committing time.

- Online only and requires a PlayStation Plus membership.
- An incredible story set within a newly-imagined, always-connected universe filled with action and adventure.
- Create your character, forge your legend by defeating powerful foes, and earn unique and customizable weapons, gear, and vehicles.
- Unprecedented variety of FPS gameplay that redefines the genre and breaks traditional conventions of story, cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes.
Access also depends on the activity. Bungie’s Monument of Triumph and Update 9.7.0 Support Guide outlines available content and access constraints; some raids or dungeons require the relevant expansion or Dungeon Key. If a desired activity is unavailable on your account, use Portal Ops or another activity whose reward panel shows a suitable tier.

Public Events: a lower-pressure destination route
Destination Public Events provide a simple alternative when you would rather roam than queue into a higher-difficulty activity. Bungie’s Director guide gives the general destination baseline: a completed event awards Tier 3 rewards, while completing it as Heroic awards Tier 4. Each drop has a chance to upgrade to Tier 5. During a Distortion, event rewards increase by one tier.

These are destination-wide rules, not a Dreaming City-specific loot table. If you are deciding whether to run a particular Dreaming City event, check its live reward display; the general Public Event tiers do not establish what every Dreaming City activity drops.
Seasonal Hub challenges and Reward Pass progression
Bungie points returning Guardians toward daily and weekly challenges in the Seasonal Hub as another way to support Power growth. The Reward Pass also includes Power-progression rewards. Check the current challenge text and reward panel before planning a route: older vendor-bounty checklists may not match the current system. Bungie’s Director guide and Monument of Triumph FAQ describe these progression paths.

How to pick the right activity for your goal
- Check your goal. Decide whether you need a general Power boost, a particular weapon or armor piece, or activity-specific gear.
- Read the Director reward panel. Compare the displayed reward tier and target Power for the activity and difficulty, including Dreaming City activities you are considering.
- Match the difficulty to your time and group. Use Portal Ops for a tier you can repeat, Public Events for a lower-pressure route, or a raid or dungeon if its group format and access requirements suit you.
- Confirm repeatability. For featured raids and dungeons, distinguish farmable rewards from weekly-locked challenges and hidden chests.
- Use Attunement for a weapon target. If the weapon is in an eligible active loot pool, select its free Attunement to increase its chance among eligible activity rewards. Attunement is not a guarantee and can be changed without cost or limit, according to Bungie Help’s Attunement guide.
What is known about Dreaming City rewards
Bungie’s Director guide identifies the Dreaming City as a destination, notes that most destinations have unique gear, and names Blind Well among destination activities with tiered rewards. Bungie’s June 2026 launch update also says destinations that predate Edge of Fate had their loot refreshed. Those statements do not provide a complete, current, activity-by-activity Dreaming City loot table, so they cannot establish that any particular Dreaming City activity is worse than these alternatives.

This is especially important if you are comparing its gear against a rotating raid or dungeon, whose featured status and reward rules may change weekly.
