For sending money abroad, compare what the recipient will actually receive—not just the advertised fee. There is no single best alternative to crypto remittance apps for every transfer: the right option depends on your sending country, destination, amount, payment method, delivery timing and how the recipient can collect the money.
How to compare international money transfer apps
Enter the same route, amount, funding method and payout method into each provider’s quote tool shortly before sending. Compare the total deducted from you with the amount the recipient gets, and check the delivery estimate and the time funds should be available.
A transfer’s cost can include provider and third-party fees, government taxes, and the exchange-rate cost. A provider may build some cost into its exchange rate rather than show it as a separate fee. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) puts it this way: “Remittance transfer costs include fees charged by the remittance transfer provider including, if applicable, their agents and third parties. Costs also include any exchange rate costs applied by the provider to the currency conversion and governmental taxes.” CFPB Consumer Financial Protection Circular 2024-02.
- Total cost and amount received: Compare the recipient’s quoted amount on the same basis, not the transfer fee in isolation.
- Exchange rate: Check whether the rate differs from the rate you are using as a reference and whether a separate fee is also charged.
- Delivery and availability: Read what the estimate means. A transfer may be described as fast, but the recipient’s access to the funds can take longer. The CFPB describes transfer times ranging from under an hour to three to five days, depending on the circumstances.
- Payout method: Confirm that the recipient can use the offered bank deposit, cash pickup or mobile-money option in their location.
- Payment method and route: Costs, speed and available options can change by sending country, destination, amount, funding method and payout method.
Apps and services to compare
These services are options to investigate, not a universal ranking. Finder’s comparison, updated September 25, 2026, describes different strengths across Wise, Remitly, OFX, WorldRemit, Xe Money Transfer and MoneyGram. Whether any one fits depends on your exact corridor and quote. Finder’s app comparison.

These descriptions are editorial characterizations in Finder’s comparison, not independent performance tests or proof that a provider is best for a particular transfer.
Why a route-specific quote matters
Wise’s comparison page displayed an illustrative USD-to-PHP quote of 62.5415, $7.46 in total fees and 62,074.94 PHP to the recipient for Wise, compared with 60.8000, $29.78 and 60,679.01 PHP for Western Union. Those are provider-published, changeable figures for that route—not an independent test or a general cost ranking. Wise’s USD-to-PHP comparison.
Wise also reports that 74% of its transfers were instant (under 20 seconds) in Q4 2025. That is Wise’s company-reported figure, not an independent benchmark; the comparison page notes individual circumstances can affect speed. A provider’s speed claim should not replace checking the estimate and when the recipient can access the funds.
What U.S. senders should know about remittance protections
For transfers sent from the United States, certain federal protections may apply if the provider and transaction qualify under the CFPB’s Remittance Rule. The CFPB says qualifying transfers generally come with disclosures of relevant fees and taxes, the exchange rate, the total transaction amount and the amount the recipient will get before payment, followed by receipt information. Whether protections apply depends on the provider and transfer; this U.S. guidance should not be assumed to apply to senders in other countries.
Rank #3
Possible rights for qualifying transfers include advance fee and exchange-rate information, receipt details about availability, cancellation within a certain period, and investigation and correction of errors. See the CFPB’s consumer guide to sending money abroad, last reviewed October 3, 2024.
Be cautious with claims such as “instant,” “no fee” or “free.” The CFPB warns that marketing can mislead when the actual delivery time or total cost differs, including when a cost is embedded in the exchange rate. A promotion may also be temporary or limited.

A practical checklist before you send
- Choose the exact sending and destination countries, amount, funding method and recipient payout method.
- Get current quotes from providers that support those details. Compare the amount received and your total outlay, including fees, taxes and exchange-rate costs.
- Check the estimated delivery time and when the recipient can actually access the money. Read any stated conditions or guarantee terms.
- Confirm the recipient can use the payout option and, for cash pickup, reach a participating location.
- Review the transaction disclosures and receipt details before paying. If sending from the United States, check whether the provider and transaction qualify for Remittance Rule protections.
