Kagi is the most clearly documented choice if you want AI-assisted search without ads: its paid search plans include Assistant access, and Kagi says it is funded by users. Brave Search is another option: its AI answers are available in Brave Search, but removing search ads requires Search Premium, which works exclusively with Brave Browser. Choose based on the subscription and browser requirements that suit you—not an accuracy ranking, since the available evidence does not establish a comparable winner.
How the two options compare
| Option | When search is ad-free | AI search features | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kagi Search | Kagi describes its search as ad-free and user-funded. | Assistant access is listed across plans; paid plans include Quick mode, while Ultimate lists Research mode and premium models. | Most plans have search limits. Professional and Ultimate list unlimited search. |
| Brave Search | Search Premium removes ads; regular Brave Search is ad-supported. | AI Answers provides concise summaries with references. Ask Brave supports longer answers, follow-up chat, and Deep Research mode. | Premium is available only in Brave Browser. The reviewed Premium help page does not state its price. |
These are practical differences, not evidence that one service gives more accurate or relevant answers. No comparable independent evaluation is established here.
Kagi: ad-free search with paid AI features
Kagi’s pricing page describes the service as having “no ads, no tracking, no noise” and being funded by users. That is Kagi’s own description, not independent verification. Its plans combine search with access to Kagi Assistant, with different search allowances and AI features.

Who Kagi suits
- You want ad-free search without tying that choice to a particular browser.
- You are comfortable paying for search and choosing a plan around its search allowance.
- You want a choice between quick AI assistance and, on Ultimate, Research mode and listed premium models.
Kagi’s account of its search infrastructure says it combines anonymized requests to traditional indexes with its own Teclis and TinyGem indexes. This architecture description comes from Kagi’s vendor-authored Kagi-versus-Brave comparison, not an independent audit.
Brave Search: AI answers with an ad-free paid option
Brave Search offers two AI interactions. AI Answers provides concise summaries with references; Ask Brave is designed for longer answers and follow-up chat, and includes a Deep Research mode. Brave documents these features but that documentation does not establish how their answer quality compares with Kagi or Google AI Mode.
Brave Search is ad-supported by default. Brave says subscribers to Search Premium see ad-free results, and its help page says Premium is available exclusively on Brave Browser. The Premium help page reviewed here does not state the subscription price, so check Brave’s current information in the browser rather than relying on an unverified figure.

- You already use Brave Browser or are willing to switch to it for ad-free search.
- You want concise referenced summaries as well as a longer conversational search option.
- You are willing to check Premium’s current terms and price before deciding.
Brave describes its core search index as independent and says it does not profile users. Those are company claims. Brave also documents an optional setting that mixes in Google results as a fallback, so “independent index” does not mean every result must always come exclusively from Brave’s index. See Brave’s Search overview.

- Choose Kagi if ad-free search is the priority and you want a clearly listed subscription with Assistant access. Compare the 300-search Starter allowance with the unlimited-search Professional and Ultimate plans; Ultimate is the listed tier with Research mode and premium models.
- Consider Brave Search Premium if Brave Browser fits your workflow and you want AI Answers plus Ask Brave. Confirm the current Premium price and terms before subscribing.
- Keep using Google AI Mode if neither a paid search plan nor Brave Browser’s Premium requirement suits you. Google AI Mode is a feature of Google Search; Ofcom discusses it in the context of answer-engine developments in its discussion paper.
