For a YouTube channel that continuously plays prerecorded films, Gyre is the closest documented workflow match: YouTube describes it as a cloud-based service for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos. StreamNeo is another cloud option for looping uploaded videos on YouTube, with one flat price per slot for any quality up to 4K 60fps and a free first day. Upstream is described as a browser-based studio for 24/7 streaming, while OBS is a no-charge, open-source option if you want to run the encoder yourself. These are workflow distinctions, not a tested reliability or value ranking.

Choose between cloud playout and a local encoder
Cloud playout
A hosted service handles playback and sends the live feed to YouTube, so your home computer does not need to remain on for the stream to continue. StreamNeo’s workflow is upload a recording or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key once, then go live. Its slots include 24/7 looping and playlists, 10 GB of storage per slot pooled across active slots, and automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. Gyre is the specifically documented match for prerecorded-video 24/7 streaming in YouTube’s guide. Confirm current service capabilities directly before moving a film library.

Local encoder
With OBS, your own computer runs the encoder and sends the broadcast to YouTube. That gives an operator control of the local setup, but continuity depends on the computer, power, software, and internet connection staying available. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a live server URL and stream key; keep the key private and use the channel’s live control room to manage the broadcast.

Plan the live stream and the replay separately
A continuous live broadcast is not necessarily a complete saved film or replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If preserving a replay matters, design the broadcast schedule around that limit and verify the resulting archive in YouTube Studio; do not assume a longer continuous feed will be saved as one complete replay.
Clear rights for the exact film and version
“Public domain” is not a universal label that clears every film in every territory. The U.S. Copyright Office says works published in the United States before January 1, 1931 are currently in the public domain because copyright protection has expired. That general U.S. rule does not determine a specific title’s status elsewhere, or necessarily clear a soundtrack, restoration, added material, or particular version. The Office also notes that certain foreign works whose U.S. copyright had expired but remained protected in their source countries had copyright automatically restored in the United States in 1996. See the Copyright Office’s copyright-duration guidance.
Rank #2
Before scheduling a film, document the title and version, its publication and rights history, the soundtrack and other included works, and the territories where you intend to make it available. A label on a third-party upload or the film’s age alone is not proof of clearance. This is a practical rights check, not a title-specific legal determination.

YouTube can interrupt even a licensed stream
YouTube states: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” If it identifies third-party content, it may replace the stream with a placeholder image, temporarily interrupt it, or terminate it if the content remains. For licensed third-party material, YouTube says the rights owner should add the channel to its Content ID allowlist; without that step, a stream may still be interrupted even when the rights are licensed or restricted by territory. See YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.
